File:Lindau Harbor Lake Constance MS Schwaben 01.jpg to appear as POTD
editHello! This is a note to let the editors of this article know that File:Lindau Harbor Lake Constance MS Schwaben 01.jpg will be appearing as picture of the day on January 27, 2015. You can view and edit the POTD blurb at Template:POTD/2015-01-27. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. Thanks! — Crisco 1492 (talk) 14:03, 8 January 2015 (UTC)
Dubious statement.
edit"After the dissolution of the Holy Roman Empire, Lindau lost its status as an Imperial Free City in 1802. "
This statement makes no grammatical sense in English, because the "Holy Roman Empire" was dissolved in 1806.Lathamibird (talk) 02:14, 27 January 2015 (UTC)
Large rewrite and correction of whole article.
editMuch of the article read like a tourist brochure rather than a encyclopaedia article and seemed to have been written by a non-English speaker or machine translated so I have corrected the wording and removed some redundant phrases. I have not fact checked these sections and there are a number of ambiguous phrases and unverified claims in the article.
Main issues resolved by this edit:
- removed superlatives
- improved grammar
- Section on "Lindauer" corrected and referenced — Preceding unsigned comment added by Trevmo (talk • contribs) 05:31, 29 January 2015 (UTC)
canting arms
edit- The coat of arms of Lindau town is a linden tree, referring to the supposed origin of the town's name (Linde means linden tree in German).
Canting arms often merely pun, rather than pointing to a supposed etymology. Can one be sure which this is? I would sidestep the question by dropping the back half of the sentence:
- The coat of arms of Lindau town is a linden tree (German Linde).
