Cleanup, April 2020

edit

I have removed a number of redlinks that appear to have no Wikipedia article and no or low notability, per Google search. I have left three redlinks of actors Kamil Shaikh, Ishrat Ali and Shahab Khan who, in my judgement, appear to have a reasonably good chance at having articles made in the future. I've also done a bit of repair work. These type of lists are magnets for vandals and sub-marginally notable actors wanting to promote themselves, so further review and cleanup will be appreciated. Moving List of Bollywood actors and actresses

edit

Since there's concensus for move from Bollywood to Hindi cinema, with arguments against the use of a less encyclopedic and accurate Bollywood at least in titles and unless there's clear understanding of what we mean by it. I've been told that List of Hindi film actors and actresses can be ambiguous. Although people can't be "Hindi" - my suggestions are as follows

  • List of Hindi-film actors/actresses
  • List of Hindi cinema actors/actresses
  • List of actors/actresses of Hindi films
  • List of actors/actresses of Hindi cinema

What do you guys think? Pinging here voters Ab207 and Abecedare, who offered elaborated arguments. 10:34, 26 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Pinging again Ab207 and Abecedare hopoing to get your feedback this time although I'm sure you must be busy. ShahidTalk2me 13:44, 28 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
Shshshsh, haven't received ping earlier, probably due to the incomplete sign. I think "Hindi film actors" should do the job. Feels a bit far fetched that it can be reasonably be confused with any group other than "actors who work in Hindi films." The scope of the article is defined in the opening line in any case. Fylindfotberserk may give us some input since we have dealt with ethnicity vs language issues in the past. -- Ab207 (talk) 14:02, 28 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Shshshsh: You are most welcome. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 08:32, 29 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
John Abraham says "I am a Hindi film hero", so I think we got this right. Like Abecedare, I feel the hyphen is uncessary but not strong enough to move myself. -- Ab207 (talk) 21:41, 29 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Ab207 I have absolutely no problem to move both lists to "Hindi film actors/actresses". I really don't think this can be indicative in any way of anything other than actors working in Hindi films. Hindi is strictly a language so no ambiguity pertains to such a title. Anyway, I can't move the page because there's an existing redirect which prevents the move hyphen-free. If you think the move should take place we can ask Abecedare to help us out with the technical hindrance. If you feel it's not a big deal either way then we could just keep it the way it is. Fylindfotberserk, we feel its better to drop the hyphen for the aforementioned reasons. If there is no objection, request Abecedare to carry out the move. -- Ab207 (talk) 07:42, 30 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
Ab207 Yeah, hyphen is not necessary. We have a similar list List of Tamil film actors, without a hyphen. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 08:40, 30 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
Okay, I agree.
@Abecedare: can you help us out in performing the move? I think all four of us concur the title is better off without the hyphen. Since there is a hard redirect of "List of Hindi film actors", we can't move it. ShahidTalk2me 08:55, 30 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Done for both the actors and actress page.

For future record, I also checked that NYT, New Yorker and BBC have used 'Hindi film actor' without the hyphen, which confirms not only that the title is grammatically correct (as we already knew) but also that it is understandable to a non-Indian readership. @Abecedare: Thanks a ton. ShahidTalk2me 13:52, 30 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
