DYK Advice
edit@Yoninah:, as per your advice on DYK talk, I wanted to ask you whether a hook with 10 bolded links will work? The below example contains all new pages created on or after 11-October. If all of them have more than 1500 unique characters, will it work? Also is the hook interesting enough to pass? The hook itself has less than 200 characters.
... that most Indian national sports awards have been given in Olympic sports: athletics, hockey, wrestling, boxing, shooting and badminton, in Non-Olympic sports: cricket and in parasports?
Would appreciate your advice. Thanks. Roller26 (talk) 13:35, 16 October 2020 (UTC)
- @Roller26: yes, we certainly have a history of multi-nomination hooks. As long as each article has 1500 characters of unique text, it's fine. The 200-character hook length does not apply to multi hooks. But the colons are unnecessary. You could write:
- ALT1: ... that most Indian national sports awards have been given in Olympic sports such as athletics, hockey, wrestling, boxing, shooting, and badminton, and in non-Olympic sports such as cricket and parasports?
- BTW the name of the sport in each page name should be lowercase. Yoninah (talk) 13:41, 16 October 2020 (UTC)

Before we go any further with this, please may I request that the word, "Indian", is included in all of these article page names? This is an international site, and I'm guessing that if you don't include "Indian", anyone reading any of those pagenames will at first think that it refers to their own country. You would need to ask an administrator to move the pages to new titles for you.Storye book (talk) 15:15, 21 October 2020 (UTC)
- Storye book, request you to go through Talk:National Sports Awards#Requested move 12 October 2020 as I believe the discussion there is relevant for what you are proposing. I am curious as to how someone randomly comes across such pages. The term "National Sports Awards" is only used by India and Bangladesh. The first line of all these pages plus the infobox (numerous times) makes it pretty evident that the award is given by Indian government. I believe the only way readers can come across these pages (other than the DYK listing) is though other Indian sports awards or their templates linking to them, or by direct search in WP or Google. - Thank you, Roller26. I had not seen the discussion. I have struck out my comment above, so that it does not distract the DYK discussion. Storye book (talk) 08:49, 23 October 2020 (UTC)
- @Roller26: I think there is a problem with this nomination in connection with supplementary rule A5 which states "New text seven days old or less can only count toward the 1500 character minimum in one article; if it is duplicated in other nominated new articles, it is ignored for the purpose of character count." So basically, most of the articles are too short. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 13:37, 1 November 2020 (UTC)
- Marking for closure since the nomination has gone stale, with no progress in over three weeks. Furthermore, seven QPQ credits are still outstanding and it has been over a month since the nomination was submitted. Flibirigit (talk) 17:59, 19 November 2020 (UTC)
- I was on wiki-break for few days. Will work on the nominations and make it passable within the next few days. Roller26 (talk) 18:24, 19 November 2020 (UTC)
- No progress has been made in the last week. If the nominator had provided more QPQ credits I could see extending the nomination. QPQ should be supplied within a week of the nomination. This nomination is now over five weeks old and QPQ requirements have not been met. It is time to close this and move on. Flibirigit (talk) 17:30, 26 November 2020 (UTC)
- I have added 7 more QPQs meeting the entire QPQ requirements Roller26 (talk) 07:55, 27 November 2020 (UTC)
- All ten nominated articles need a review now that QPQs have finally been supplied. Flibirigit (talk) 14:23, 27 November 2020 (UTC)

Overall: This review is for List of National Sports Award recipients in Olympic sports only. I am taking it that the first paragraph in the header of all of these articles is common to all, therefore we have to exclude that paragraph from readable text in assessment for DYK. This article has 1480 characters of readable text allowable for DYK assessment, so we need at least 20 more characters. Storye book (talk) 17:14, 27 November 2020 (UTC)
- List of National Sports Award recipients in athletics review
- New enough, long enough, neutrally written, well referenced, no close paraphrasing seen. Image is freely licensed. QPQ done. I'm only unsure how the hook is verified in this article; perhaps it isn't. Yoninah (talk) 22:28, 28 November 2020 (UTC)
- List of National Sports Award recipients in hockey review
- The text is so close and repetitive to the other articles that there is not 1500 characters of anything new. Yoninah (talk) 22:31, 28 November 2020 (UTC)
- List of National Sports Award recipients in wrestling review
- The text is so close and repetitive to the other articles that there is not 1500 characters of anything new. Yoninah (talk) 22:34, 28 November 2020 (UTC)

- List of National Sports Award recipients in non-Olympic sports review
- The text is so close and repetitive to the other articles that there is not 1500 characters of anything new. Yoninah (talk) 22:50, 28 November 2020 (UTC)
- List of National Sports Award recipients in cricket review
- New enough. Since most of the lead text is repeated in the other articles, I'm only looking at the Recipients section and seeing only 1356 characters. Yoninah (talk) 22:50, 28 November 2020 (UTC)
- I should also note that about 340 characters of text about Sachin Tendulkar has been copied from List of Arjuna Award recipients (1990–1999). Per Rule A5, this text needs to be expanded 5x in the current article, which would push the required length to at least 1700 characters of new text. Yoninah (talk) 11:42, 29 November 2020 (UTC)
- List of National Sports Award recipients in parasports review
- The text is so close and repetitive to the other articles that there is not 1500 characters of anything new. Yoninah (talk) 22:50, 28 November 2020 (UTC)
- General discussion
- @Roller26: please respond to the comment above by @Cwmhiraeth: about the length. Thanks! Flibirigit (talk) 16:57, 27 November 2020 (UTC)
- @ Flibirigit. I have only done one review because I am distracted with decrypting a collection of encoded postcards for Commons right now. However I should be able to do one or two more article reviews if necessary (ask me if you need to). You will need to call in more reviewers for the rest, though. Storye book (talk) 17:14, 27 November 2020 (UTC)
- I have divided the template into sections for each nominated article to help track the review process. Anyone is welcome to comment or do a review. Flibirigit (talk) 23:00, 27 November 2020 (UTC)
- I have added a QPQ column so that each QPQ can be checked by the reviewer of one of the articles, rather than all 10 at once. Yoninah (talk) 22:19, 28 November 2020 (UTC)
- Is the hook really that interesting? I don't think so. The way the articles are bolded, they could be about the generic sports rather than the National Sports Awards for those sports. Yoninah (talk) 22:21, 28 November 2020 (UTC)
- Several of the articles have images with no image caption. Yoninah (talk) 22:52, 28 November 2020 (UTC)
- The nominator has not responded to multiple questions about length of the nominated lists. The issue has been outstanding since November 1. This nomination should be marked for closure if no meaningful progress is made within a week. Flibirigit (talk) 22:01, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
