Colours of the map
editPlease explain how the state adopted timezones correspond to the actual timezones and UTC. I am beginning to wonder that the map was made by a someone who doesn't see colours. The colours of terrestrial times are totally random compared to the shading of the 24 timezones. 128.214.129.13 (talk) 10:53, 20 September 2024 (UTC)
- The "tz database time zones" do not correspond to what people think of as "time zones" in the time zone sense. The tz database takes into account not just the standard-time offset from UTC, it also takes into account adjustments to that offset, such as what happens in countries that observe daylight saving time.
- As such, there are a lot more "tz database time zones" then there are "time zones" in the time zone sense, given that, among other things, different locations have different DST rules. See, for example, the tz database's "Time zone and daylight saving time data" page and its "Theory and pragmatics of the tz code and data" document.
- This is an unfortunate collision of names; in the aforementioned "Theory and pragmatics of the tz code and data" document, the term "timezone", with no space between "time" and "zone", is used to refer to "tz database time zones". In the past, I've referred to them as "tzdb regions". Guy Harris (talk) 19:48, 20 September 2024 (UTC)
Featured List Nomination
editHello everyone!
I have recently stumbled upon this list. This list is very extensive, with the table having many columns, datapoints, and references where needed. The lead and introduction to the context is also detailed. I believe that this list can be a candidate for a Featured list. Please feel free to give any comments, suggestions, or oppose my opinion.
