Eucla
Someone edited the offsets for Australia/Eucla to indicate "official" vs "unofficial". I undid this.
It's not for us to decide here what is official or not. While it may be true that in the town of Eucla that there is an official time and an unofficial time, the "Australia/Eucla" time zone in the tz database is specifically about the unofficial time. mj1856 (talk) 00:30, 8 February 2014 (UTC)
Crimea timezone has changed
Europe/Simferopol should now be Moscow Time: [1] -Kudzu1 (talk) 21:29, 29 March 2014 (UTC)
- Do we really want this page to be edited one zone at a time? The header says it represents version 2012c of the TZ data. If we edit manually here, then that's not true any more. Perhaps we should be updating this page with each and every release so it stays current? mj1856 (talk) 20:24, 30 March 2014 (UTC)
- Hi all, I did plan to refresh the table (see discussions since 2013i database) but my progress stalled after creating articles for new TZ entries.
Give me a few days to sort out the update as of 2014b. If anyone had the list formatted in wikitable, please start a new section on my talk page, thanks.Hytar (talk) 09:44, 9 April 2014 (UTC)- OK I'm done. Can anyone help me to review the update? Hytar (talk) 10:56, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
Accuracy of "List of tz database time zones"
I doubt that this list represents the data within tz2014b.tar.gz. For example, "India UTC +05:30" is missing in Wikipedia. But it's within the asia tz database file. Kind Regards! — Preceding unsigned comment added by AendieB (talk • contribs) 19:57, 16 October 2014 (UTC)
Correction ... I see India is within Asia/Kolkata ... confusing! My apologies! — Preceding unsigned comment added by AendieB (talk • contribs) 20:18, 16 October 2014 (UTC)
Updating the list
We need to set some guidelines for updating this list. It would appear that several people are manually editing the offsets. It's good to keep the list up to date, but it now no longer reflects the version of the tzdb specified in the opening paragraph.
Also, we need to think about what the list is trying to reflect when it comes to showing the standard and daylight offsets. For example, Europe/Moscow switched from +04:00 to +03:00 on October 26th 2014. This change was introduced to the tzdb in 2014f, which was released on August 6th, 2014. Assuming we had a mechanism for keeping the list updated with the current tzdb, then it would have been showing +03:00 too soon.
It would seem that there should be a script to programmatically update this list from tzdb itself. The script will need to run any time there is a tzdb update, but it will also need to run periodically, such that the current offsets are shown at all times.
I know nothing about writing scripts for Wikipedia. Anyone up for the task? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mj1856 (talk • contribs) 20:14, 1 November 2014 (UTC)
