Is Lord Farquaad a sadist?
editI've been discussing with a few people and they think that Lord Farquaad is a sadist. He acts very sadisticlly towards the Gingerbread Man at the start of the film and he laughs at Shrek when he discovers that Shrek is in love with Fiona. So is Lord Farquaad a sadist?
I'd say he is. 217.171.129.68 (talk) 00:08, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
Richard III
editI personally think Farquaad looks a lot like the much-maligned King Richard III. What do you think? I haven't seen the DVD creators' commentary of Shrek; did they mention Richard at all there? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 75.85.180.81 (talk) 04:46, 7 February 2007 (UTC).
- Well, imho he looks much like Charles V. -- Basilicofresco (msg) 19:09, 25 April 2010 (UTC)
- I definitely think the character seems to be largely based on Richard III. He looks much more similar to actual portraits and contemporary depictions of Richard III than Charles V, and closely fits Richard III's frequent portail as an archetypal villain. Specifically his appearance, attire and mannerisms in Richard III (1955 film), an adaptation of Shakespeare's Richard III, are strikingly similar. It seems Richard III is much more likely to be a direct inspiration for Lord Faarquad than "Napoleon, Joseph Stalin, Hideki Tojo and even Adolf Hitler" as the page currently lists.

- I just came across the article for Bernardo Clesio and the portrait of him with red headgear reminded me of Farquaad. Their faces look a lot alike, except Farquaad's hair is longer and darker, so I could say he resembles Clesio with Richard III's hair. – MrPersonHumanGuy (talk) 20:09, 13 December 2022 (UTC)

Lord Fuckwit?
editIt's quite obvious that it was the origin of the name. Shouldn't it be in the article? 124.176.50.51 (talk) 03:48, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
- Agreed, except it sounds like Lord Fuckwad to me.--124.148.172.239 (talk) 10:41, 6 May 2011 (UTC)
- I think it sounds more like Fartwad. Jdaniels15 (talk) 14:40, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
- If it's pronounced by someone who normally doesn't pronounce the letter r (for example many people from England, as well as many Americans mocking a snooty accent), it's pretty much exactly "fuckwad". TooManyFingers (talk) 23:07, 9 November 2021 (UTC)

In the inspiration section, add the phrase "Farquaad's name is considered to resemble the word "fuckwad"'. Could use this as a ref. I'm surprised it's not already mentioned in the article; notable sources cover it and it's relevant to the topic. Vulgar but Wikipedia isn't censored. 104.232.119.107 (talk) 03:40, 25 May 2024 (UTC)
- Do other sources confirm this? Far out isn't considered reliable around here and is often removed (their editor in chief was also banned for spam). Jamedeus (talk) 06:22, 25 May 2024 (UTC)
- Oh lol being banned from here isn't a great sign. I should have looked it up in the perennial sources list, my mistake. Here's one from The Guardian: https://www.theguardian.com/film/2001/jun/29/1.
[N]ow, in Shrek, their glucose-enriched computer animation comedy for all the family, we have "fuckwad". That is: the evil Lord Farquaad, who banishes all fairy tale characters from his kingdom, and the purpose of whose odd name can only be to contain that single entendre.
