Automatic number plate recognition (ANPR)
editThis does not make sense. If you need to read one plate, would you
- rely on an automatic system that is being tested and could fail and trust it blindly, or
- take a look at the picture with your own eyes? PizzaMargherita 07:34, 30 November 2005 (UTC)
- The system was able to automatically track the vehicle by spotting it on the CCTV cameras, alerting the centre as to the location and movements of the car. violet/riga (t) 10:21, 30 November 2005 (UTC)
- Oh, I see, thanks. Silly me. So to clarify:
- Police somehow gets a plate number
- The ANPR network helps track where that car has gone
- Police make 6 arrests based on this info and then release them.
- Is that right? If so, what I'd like to understand I guess is: was that car actually connected to the crime? PizzaMargherita 12:32, 30 November 2005 (UTC)
- Oh, I see, thanks. Silly me. So to clarify:
I have reverted some politically correct vandalism.
Just because a statement is factually correct does not make it relevant or inoffensive. For example it is factually correct that a disproportionate amount of crimes are committed by black people, but inserting this irrelevantly into every article that happened to be about a black person would still display a certain point of view.
Stressing the gender of someone purely because they are female and a victim implies the crime is more noteworthy or serious because of it, and therefore that crimes against men are less important. This is not appropriate for an encyclopaedia. see Wikipedia:Neutral_point_of_view Plastic rat 18:38, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
Crimes against women, particularly murder, are far less common than against men. The fact that this is only the second women police officer to be killed is noteworthy. I would express the same on the article for the second man ever killed.-Andrew Duffell 09:41, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
ANPR Automatic Number Plate recognition is a system that utilises OCR (optical character recognition software) It is normally employed in Police vehicles or selected CCTV cameras. the system reads the number plate of passing vehicles checking them aainst databases for vehicles of interest.

- The murder of unarmed police officers by perpetrators using firearms is a topic of interest.
- Police officers from around the world remark about British police officers beomg routinely unarmed.
- The murder of police officers whilst keeping the peace is a subject that shoukd be preserved for historical interest. 2A00:23C8:B083:AF01:9561:33F2:DBC5:AD4D (talk) 04:06, 13 April 2023 (UTC)
