This is interesting

edit

It also derails complaints that there are no Asians among the cast of Star Wars. I have heard those several times.

Quick Question

edit

Why does the info box have info on the japanese dub but no other lanuage? it's not a japanese film.

Any Etymology?

edit

Does anyone know where the name came from or why Lucas chose this name? That would be interesting. ixo (talk) 12:53, 7 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

I don't know, but at Talk:Obi-Wan_Kenobi/Archive_1#Name I asked "The name Obi-Wan would seem to me to be an allusion to OB1, perhaps Old Ben 1. Is there any thruth to this"? The answer was "Not sure, but I don't think so. I took the name Ben later in life, but Obi-wan was my birth name". Debresser (talk) 09:45, 8 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

My poor opinion of the article

edit

Nothing against the information, it is the order/method presented. For a better article, try to give it the layout out an article on a real person (even though this is only an article on a fictional character) , section on early life, progress through the persons life. This article read more as a extract of the plot summaries of the Star Wars movies, and progresses in the order of which the movies were released. Wfoj3 (talk) 12:48, 10 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

The temporal problem should be mentioned: 20 years pass between Episode III and Episode IV, but it seems like 40 years have passed for the Obi Wan character.

Synopsis edit

edit

I edited the "original trilogy" synopsis, as they chased they TIE fighter to the Death Star, and got caught in the tractor beam. 2601:640:1:1F7B:E0B0:4C6C:C362:EE84 (talk) 23:18, 17 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Force ghosts of Qui-Gon and Mace Windu

edit

Why does this article suggest that they appear at the end of Return of the Jedi? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.24.7.132 (talk) 21:03, 13 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

On the larger question of these immaterial beings, what do the sources call them - 'force ghosts' or 'force spirits'? Reply with sources, please. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 17:43, 25 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Official material uses Force spirit (not citable since that's a sales link). Third-party media tends to use the terms interchangeably, slightly favoring 'ghost'. I use the term "Force ghost" at parties because it sounds better. For a scholarly article on a fictional element, however, I think it better to use the in-universe term. Comic books and novels

edit

I've added the bit about these not being canon here, but someone it reverted it out. To my understanding, unless it was in one of the films or television series, it is not canon. I know this topic has come up repeatedly over the years, and what is and isn't SW canon should probably have its own article. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 02:16, 24 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Spin out Obi Wan Kenobi TV series?

edit

I'm tempted to spin out the section on Obi-Wan Kenobi (TV show) into its own article. Just want to double check if before I do. Maybe the MOS or WikiProject has a guideline about when to spin out TV shows? Looks like they're building sets in the UK and will enter production soon. Note that there's also a section about this at [1]. –Novem Linguae (talk) 18:48, 16 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Request to have someone create the Wikipedia page for the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, since evidence is showing it's now filming

edit

There are set photos from Obi-Wan Kenobi coming out with evidence that filming has begun as the article with these set photos mentions that two cast members were on set filming their roles: https://starwarstime.net/exclusive-obi-wan-kenobi-set-pics-may-tease-old-ben-kenobis-hut/.

Assuming this is true, can we start creating the Wikipedia page for the Obi-Wan Kenobi series?

There was also an interview with mcgregor which revealed filming began (https://dorksideoftheforce.com/2021/04/28/ewan-mcgregor-reflects-prequels-obi-wan-kenobi-series-filming/) AramilFeraxa (talk) 18:10, 29 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Lead picture

edit

Should the main picture be a join of Ewan and Alec? like Bruce Banner (Marvel Cinematic Universe). Ewan is expanding the role this year. Cornerstonepicker (talk)

Fictional character writing

edit

Another user recently made me aware that some of the ways I've been editing character pages may not be correct based on WP guidelines. I'm more than happy to listen to feedback and correct my mistakes. In the meantime, I would like to ask that nobody remove all of my many edits of this page in an attempt to fix certain mistakes. If you find major faults with the article, let's have a discussion and I will be happy to address all concerns and make changes. Thank you! Wafflewombat (talk) 23:56, 30 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Assertion of notability

edit

Hi, I've opened a discussion at the Star Wars WikiProject regarding articles having few or no citations asserting notability, and I invite any interested editors to participate and help rectify this issue. - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 20:30, 3 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hey, I have some questions about some of the cultural impact material that you restored. Could you explain why Kenobi being listed as IGN's third greatest Star Wars character is notable? If he were listed as the third greatest movie character, I would be interested, but just ranking him within Star Wars doesn't seem notable, especially since the ranker is IGN and not a more prestigious or film-oriented outlet.
Also, why does it matter that he appeared on UGO Networks' favorite heroes of all time list? They didn't rank him, UGO no longer exists, and the list was created 14 years ago. Also, lots of people are going to have no idea what UGO is, and will therefore shrug when they see this information.
I hope you don't feel I'm being too aggressive or attacking your work. I'm not! I just take cultural impact very seriously and want to make sure we're being thorough in our vetting of these items. Thanks for giving attention to these character pages—it's very important and much-needed! Wafflewombat (talk) 05:46, 4 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
I'm tired right now, so I will address IGN quick - on WP:RSPS, IGN is listed as being generally reliable for entertainment topics, with the only concern being: "Consider whether the information from this source constitutes due weight before citing it in an article." Reading the article, the author appears to discuss in decent detail why Obi-Wan ranked as high as he did. Lists tend not to be the best source to use, but ultimately, it comes down to the quality of the presentation. - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 08:42, 4 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the reply on this. I'm sorry if my phrasing was not clear—I did not mean to imply that IGN is not reliable, but rather that it is not the most authoritative source for assessing the notability of film characters (Kenobi appears in other media, including games, but he is most widely known as a film character). But if you feel the IGN segment is important, I won't debate any further. It's a small issue and our time is better spent on other things 🙂 Wafflewombat (talk) 16:53, 4 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
