split article proposal: Riau Islands province vs Riau Islands/Archipelago
editThis article was created to refer to the Riau Islands as the Riau archipelago south of Singapore.
The problem is, the recently created Riau Islands province covers more than the Riau archipelago, and includes the Natunas and Anambas archipelagos, which have nothing to do with Riau archipelago in terms of history, geography, political situation (with Singapore), social and cultural situation (current mix of population due to industrialization, orang lauts, Tanjung Pinang, language...), etc.
Therefore I propose the article should be split between the Riau Islands Province as opposed to Riau Islands (as Riau Archipelago), the latter being the current article!Tlanson 01:25, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

- Oppose. Why can't Riau archipelago history be put in the Riau Islands province page? — Indon (reply) — 10:54, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

- support - Riau Islands Province is the primary meaning of the term. Other meanings can be found by the user on the disambiguation page. (Caniago 11:17, 26 September 2006 (UTC))

Quality of information
editFor example the official web page for the province of Riau Islands(http://kepriprov.go.id/id/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=37&Itemid=47, in Indonesian) suggests, that the land area of the islands is much less that currently suggested in this article & population is nowadays over 1.3 million. Could somebody (who can Indonesian) correct these facts? --Paju (talk) 15:03, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
Orphaned references in Riau Islands
editI check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Riau Islands's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT⚡ 16:41, 22 January 2020 (UTC)
