About St Aloysius.

edit

Foe the love of God what evidence do you want. I study there. If you want more proof just Google and check out the website of the institution. KnowledgeHunter6788 (talk) 18:53, 22 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

@KnowledgeHunter6788 I did, and it still calls itself "St. Aloysius College" there. As a general rule, our article titles lag when institutions change names; we can wait until after they officially change the name to change the article.
Furthermore, if you are a student there, you can be deemed to have a conflict of interest with the school, and because of your conflict, you should not edit the article directly. —C.Fred (talk) 18:56, 22 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Can you please specify where does it calls itself St. Aloysius College, i don't see it anywhere. It clearly says Deemed to be University. KnowledgeHunter6788 (talk) 19:18, 22 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
About a quarter of the way down the front page, it says "Welcome to St. Aloysius College." While the copyright statement at the bottom just says "St. Aloysius", the logo above says "St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangaluru". Finally, the address still has "College" in it. —C.Fred (talk) 20:25, 22 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Intro sentence, while the naming issues are being sorted out

edit

While it may still be a little early--and we'd be peering into a crystal ball--to reach a decision just yet, it looks there is an evolving situation with the name of the institution.

The name of the article should reflect the common name, not necessarily the legal name, of the institution. I think for this, we have to wait to see how the media, in particular, refer to the institution.

As far as the introduction section, we normally mention the full legal name of the institution there. Again, this is a case where we need to see what happens, but a simple press release from the school would be enough to support that. (I don't see any such statement at the school's website, and their usage is a mismatch.

That said, I think we've got some options for the interim. What are your thoughts about these?

  1. (status quo) St. Aloysius[1] is a private, coeducational, Jesuit deemed university located in Mangalore, Karnataka, India.
  2. St. Aloysius[a] is a private, coeducational, Jesuit deemed university located in Mangalore, Karnataka, India.
  3. St. Aloysius Deemed to be University[b] is a private, coeducational, Jesuit deemed university located in Mangalore, Karnataka, India.
  4. St. Aloysius Deemed to be University[1] is a private, coeducational, Jesuit deemed university, founded in 1880 as St. Aloysius College and located in Mangalore, Karnataka, India.

Notes

  1. ^ St. Aloysius earned deemed to be university status in 2024[1] and has begun referring to itself as St. Aloysius Deemed to be University, but it still uses its historical name, St. Aloysius College, in places.

  • I'm warming towards St. Aloysius Deemed to be University and the fourth lead due to the suggestion by staff at the institution that an official name change occurred. However, I don't think we have sufficient clarity to establish if this new name is also the new COMMONNAME. I am also supportive of the second proposed lead as a splitting-the-difference option. ~ Pbritti (talk) 15:10, 23 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

St. Aloysius College (Mangalore)St. Aloysius (Deemed to be University) – There appears to be evidence that the parenthetical "(Deemed to be University)" is now part of the college's name and has recently become the COMMONNAME for this subject. I support a move to this new name, despite my previous objections. ~ Pbritti (talk) 22:29, 19 August 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. BilledMammal (talk) 13:25, 27 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
