editHe wanted to try out the sport, so he lied and said that he did play, although he said that the first day in practice, the coach "immediately knew I hadn't."
- What's your suggestion?
- BeanieFan11 Haha sorry. Just a suggestion to split the sentence into two. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 14:20, 19 October 2023 (UTC)

- ... that Stan Mataele lied about having experience playing football so he could be on his college's team, and when found out, made the squad anyway and was all-state? Source: Arizona Republic

- Comment: Note that I might not have much time to do QPQs until around November 3/4, hopefully that's alright.
Improved to Good Article status by BeanieFan11 (talk). Self-nominated at 21:07, 25 October 2023 (UTC). Post-promotion hook changes for this nom will be logged at Template talk:Did you know nominations/Stan Mataele; consider watching this nomination, if it is successful, until the hook appears on the Main Page.
- Recent expansion and promotion, no plagiarism, properly written. Hook interesting and verified on good sources. I am entirely incompetent when it comes to gridiron topics, but I do have a minor concern about whether Pro-Football-Reference.com (not used for the hook) is a WP:RS. QPQ also needs addressing. - @Dahn: QPQ added; also, note that Pro-Football-Reference.com has long been considered one of the most reliable references (pun intended) for football statistics and is used on over 30,000 articles. BeanieFan11 (talk) 21:58, 10 November 2023 (UTC)

- Alright then, and yes, it appears that the reference I was inquiring about has a reliable publisher (which, unlike it being used in so many articles so far, actually qualifies it under WP:RS). Dahn (talk) 10:13, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
