Lost information
editDue to the edits to this page claiming Steve Burns had died, a large amount of information was lost in reverting this page. Therefore, I have reverted the page to the latest complete version. Lorenj 20:39, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
has he not died? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.166.171.63 (talk) 16:07, 26 December 2016 (UTC)
No he has not. That's a well-kept-alive rumor that has persisted for around 20 years. Some websites claimed he died of a heroin overdose as early as 1998 (he was on "Blue's Clues" until 2002), or was in an auto accident and all sorts of things that have no merit. Again, he is alive and well. Thanks! The brave celery (talk) 15:13, 6 July 2017 (UTC)

College my ***!
editMy mom here is in a fantasy world and refuses to believe Steve went off to college, even after proof right here on this page that he recorded a rock album instead. Somebody please prove to her that Steve is not a college boy. --It's a lion! 12:00, 21 June 2006 (UTC, whatever that means)
- The whole college deal was a storyline to get him off the show and get Joe (Donavan Pattan) to fill in. He makes appearances from time to time. But he did record an album in which he was the lead singer of. --Mr. C.C. 20:51, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
- If she won't believe the article, why would she believe the talk page? Have you considered the possibility that she really does know Steve went off to be a rock singer, and that she really just wants to convince you to go to college? Rklawton 20:56, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
- Rklawton, that makes absolutely no sense. It's all a storyline to get him off the show because he did become a rock singer/guitarist. Mr. C.C. 19:06, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
- I know that. You know that. I was responding to Kiwi whose mom thinks the storyline is real life - and who thinks something in the Talk page might change her mind. Rklawton 19:09, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

- Steve Left for two reason I really think this should be added he stated he left because he was going bald and did not want children to see that happen to him. He said it on the ten year special you can see it here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwpC4IxvXTU (this is part 2) so maybe we should add it this? Troller101 (talk) 01:03, 31 July 2011 (UTC)
- Troller101, thanks for bringing this up because it reminded me that at one point, Burns' joke about going bald was here. There is so much vandalism that occurs on this page; I must admit, I let it get me down and for the past several months, I haven't been that diligent about it. Perhaps the solution is to request protection. At any rate, I reverted it to a much-older version, so it currently has content that had been vandalized-out. You'll notice, though, that by doing that, the image you added was removed. I'd like to talk about that image. I'm not sure it's appropriate because most infoboxes have the image of the subject only. The person on the right (you, correct?) is also holding a cigarette; I think that we need to be careful about depicting any kind of drug use because as the vandalism that this article attests, there are lots of kids who visit here. It would be so great if you were to crop the image to depict only Burns. I can even do that for you, if you like. Thanks again. Christine (talk) 13:23, 31 July 2011 (UTC)
- No that photo is not me, I just wanted to help the page and i looked for a did a search of a photo for Steve and that's all that came up. So i just added it because it says at the top of this page a photo is requested. I was just trying to help "de-shit" the page maybe you can ask the person who uploaded it if you can crop it. Troller101 (talk) 04:41, 1 August 2011 (UTC)
- I just took another look at that photo, whomever uploaded it has it uploaded as copyright free, why don't you go ahead and crop it and then add it, Im still a new user, i cant edit that page now that its protected. Troller101 (talk) 04:59, 1 August 2011 (UTC)

T, you should be able to edit it just fine; the protection was against anonymous IPs, not someone with a valid WP account. But I went ahead and cropped the image. I'm not even sure that I did it right, either. Then I did some further research, and realized that I had forgotten that I had seen that image before! [1] I didn't crop it at the time because I was even more stupid about images than I am now, and I didn't think it was appropriate. If another editor thinks that it is, even one who claims he's a new editor, consensus says that we can crop it and use it in this and other articles. So that's what I'm doing! Porn Star?
editThe assertion that Burns was in two porn movies seems to have no corroboration anywhere else on the net. It needs to be cited or removed. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 66.217.163.80 (talk • contribs) 00:40, 30 November 2006 (UTC).
Arm Tattoos?
editIs there any reason that we can't also include in the "urban rumors" section the "Steve wears long shirts every day because he used to be a Hell's Angel biker and has arm-length tattoos" thing? I always thought that was the funniest rumor about this benign show and host, and more people need to know it's totally not true. 204.214.7.2 15:05, 1 June 2007 (UTC) SpeedRacerX
What the Crap Kind of Confusing Article Is This?
editSeriously, this article needs work. I was pretty confused throughout the whole thing. It pretty much jumps onto the subject of the rumor that he died of a drug overdose and talks about it as if you know exactly what it's talking about. It really sounds like a six-year-old fan of the show wrote this article. That's my blunt opinion. Waluigi Freak 99 00:13, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
Agreed. Do something about it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.72.79.35 (talk) 05:09, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
I will do it! Especially since the Blue's Clues article was suffering from the same thing complained about here, and I took it on. The problem, as I see it, with Blue's Clues-related articles is that most of its viewers are young children not yet ready for WP editing, or their parents who are too busy to bother. The result is badly-written articles. However, Sesame Street suffers from none of these problems, and it's the best article about a children's TV program on WP. So there! ;) --Figureskatingfan (talk) 19:06, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
Mental Issues?
editIn the second paragraph, it states "Recently, Steve had made an appearance on the Rosie O'Donnell Show to confirm his "good" health. Steve left Blues Clues because of his mental issues." What does this mean? No where else in the article does it mention any kind of mental problem which Steve may be suffering from. --Wydok 04:23, 22 September 2007 (UTC) Well, since the Rosie O'Donnell show has been off the air for several years, the 'recently' bit should be changed. This article needs to be rewritten and refocused and put into the wikipedia format, as opposed to a smattering of unrelated maybe-facts. And there definitely needs to be a 'rumors' section. Because the suicide rumor is very widespread...EsocksLAMB 00:49, 16 October 2007 (UTC) No there does NOT need to be a "rumors" section. This is an encyclopedia, not a supermarket tabloid. The article must be confined to verifiable facts and source citations, not rumors, not supposition, not crap about what talk show he was on "recently" or what "your mom" thinks about what he's doing now. The "suicide rumor" is just that...a rumor. It has no place here, and rumors and myths should not be dignified by addressing them here. Absense of mention is sufficient as a testament to the fact that a rumor is untrue. Facts only. No rumors. This is Wikipedia. It's not snopes.com. 12.22.250.4 22:08, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
Not so confusing anymore
editAt least I hope so. Or at least it's getting closer.
Anyway, I've been working on rewriting this article, which as the consensus seems from this talk page, needed it badly. It simply needed some verifiable info, and it's there, at least what I was able to find from some google searches and some good articles cited on Steve's webpage. Notice the new section, "Rumor mill and departure." I believe that the rumors about Steve's death/drug overdose is important enough to mention in his article because every article about Steve written after 1998 mentions it. Even the Nick documentary brings it up. It's related to his departure of BC because the rumors resurfaced after he left the show.
Tonight, I've deleted some sections of this article because the info in them were (1)unverifiable, (2)repetitive, or (3)just plain silly. I will also delete some of the references because they aren't reliable, as per WP:V.--Figureskatingfan (talk) 06:09, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
Sentence would read better...
editGreetings
I am new to the editing process here and am uncomfortable making sentence restructuring changes. The html tags make it confusing! :)
The sentence I already edited in a minor way is this one, under "Early career": He studied theatre at DeSales University in Center Valley, Pennsylvania, in the Lehigh Valley.[3] under an acting scholarship, but quit school and moved to New York City to become a professional actor.[4]
I changed the period following "Lehigh Valley" to a comma. But I think the sentence is awkward and bluky and would read better as two sentences:
He studied theatre under an acting scholarship at DeSales University in Center Valley, Pennsylvania, in the Lehigh Valley.[3] He quit school and moved to New York City to become a professional actor.[4]
Thanks A2thGirl (talk) 16:12, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
- Girl, thanks for the suggestion; I went ahead and made the change. Please, by all means, be bold! It can only make Steve's article all the better. --Figureskatingfan (talk) 18:42, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
The whole collage thing was just a story line used to get burns off the show.my friend said to me what happened to steve?is he dead who knows.i told him he is still alive.steve burns gerne is punk-rock even readers digest said so saying he was touring at the time but not to take young children along.--Sweetheart2009 (talk) 15:31, 27 June 2009 (UTC)sweetheart2009
Death hoax
editI have deleted this section. One of the more tiring things about being this article's main editor (along with Blues Clues) is the amount of vandalism that must be regularly reverted in regards to this "hoax". I have even given it a name: "Steve Burns vandalism". It continues to amaze me, almost five years after the show stopped being produced, how much these rumors stick. And for some reason, the vandalism occurs at specific times of the year, like now. (I'm being factitious; of course I know why it's happening now, it's because of the school break and the kiddies have more time.) Anyway, an editor has insisted that the material contained in this section be included in this article, so even though I disagree with it, I have included the same content in the "Departure" section. It was taken from the BC article, and is well-sourced. Hopefully, it makes everyone happy, even the kiddies who think that if they repeat the rumors enough, they have to be true. At any rate, Monday can't come too soon for me! --Christine (talk) 06:04, 31 December 2009 (UTC)
- But removing the section about it certainly will not stop the vandalism. The reason the section was put there to begin with was to counter those rumors and claims that he had died. Not only that, but it being in the media it became fairly well known as associated with him. So pretending like it never happened will not solve the problem and may only exacerbate it. --ScreaminEagle (talk) 19:37, 2 January 2010 (UTC)
- Eagle, you misunderstand me. I don't think that a paragraph of well-written prose will stop this vandalism, and understand that nothing short of permanent protection will make it go away. It just amazes me how persistent this rumor is, and how people believe it even with evidence to the contrary. I suppose that all the kids who grew up with Steve honestly believe that Steve ending up dead or addicted (or both) is funny, and I've never understood why. It's like for some of them, vandalizing Steve's bio like this is some rite of passage. It's so bizarre. That's what I was trying to say, whilst trying to be witty. I suppose I failed. Ah well, it's not the first time my humor has fallen flat. At any rate, I believe that my addition should fulfill your need for this information to be included. If not, please say so and we can talk about it further as per the collaborative nature of this project. --Christine (talk) 04:35, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
There is a line in the article currently that says that specious claims exist that Burns was replaced by a look-alike; I think this is somewhat misleading as he was in fact replaced as the host of Blue's Clues, and the person who replaced him does in fact look somewhat similar. It is simply untrue that he died. 206.176.192.174 (talk) 18:01, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
Steve's website
editThe link for Steve's website is out of date. After clicking on it, one receives the message that the account has been suspended. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Verweiler (talk • contribs) 09:28, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, after doing a short google search, it looks like it no longer exists; guess Steve's depending upon his Facebook account for promotion. I removed the links. Thanks for the catch, Verweiler. --Christine (talk) 19:04, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
the links for Steves website still appear in the "External Links" section and the info box on the right side. This is a dead link it takes you to a page that reads "account suspended" please remove this link — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.177.98.91 (talk) 00:13, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
- Well, it says that I removed the links over a year and a half ago. There are two explanations for this: 1) I had a senior moment, which seems to be happening more and more; or 2) somebody added them back in. At any rate, it's gone again. I really need to maintain this article better. Too bad I don't get any help from my friends! ;) Christine (talk) 01:03, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
Deep Sea Recovery Efforts ???
editIn what way was 'Deep Sea Recovery Efforts' "released in 2009", as the article says??? I have patiently waited for this album for YEARS. It was promised for years on Steve's old website which no longer exists, last time I checked. There are some tracks you can stream on his myspace page. But I cannot find anywhere to purchase a CD or download (legally) this album. Sadly, it seems like the music equivalent of vaporware. 184.57.8.102 (talk) 23:46, 22 December 2010 (UTC)djlemonfresh
- That might have been one of the many instances of vandalism that have occurred in this article, but a different kind--unsourced information. I looked at the sentence in question again and saw that it is indeed unsourced. The quick solution is to remove it, which I will, but a more long-term solution is to do a little research about it. I suggest that you do that. That begs the question I've been wondering for the past year or so: what exactly is Steve up to these days? Poor fellow, he's probably simply sitting at home enjoying those residuals from the show. ;) Christine (talk) 12:43, 23 December 2010 (UTC)
I have a box of 'Deep Sea Recovery Efforts' CDs in the back of my car. I'll gladly send you one. I was Steve's roadie for two of his tours and for the shows he played at SXSW in 2009. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pushmonk (talk • contribs) 21:23, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
- Ha ha that's so funny. But kinda pathetic, too. I might just take you up on the offer. Ya know, we watch BC everyday, and a couple of months ago, we saw Steve perform on Jack's Big Music Show.[2] I pointed to the TV and asked my kids, "Who's that?" All they could say was "Piggie!" They didn't even recognize him! Christine (talk) 00:15, 10 April 2011 (UTC)
"Side Note"
editThe "side note" under the Departure heading seems out of place and needs a citation if it's going to remain on the page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.160.176.233 (talk) 01:48, 22 February 2011 (UTC)
- You are right, sir! It was some tricky bit of vandalism that got through. This article, for some strange reason, gets a lot of that, along with Blue's Clues. Thanks for the catch. Christine (talk) 12:48, 22 February 2011 (UTC)
More sources
editTo all the people that are really helping make this page better here is a shot interview clip from 2002 i think, maybe it can be used as a source or something it's here: http://www.mtv.com/videos/news/186346/ex-blues-clues-host-steve-burns-wild-ride.jhtml#id=1573406 (look how he still takes the thinking chair everywhere i love that lol) Troller101 (talk) 21:56, 1 August 2011 (UTC)
2002 was not his year
editI came across this page today (when i'm posting) and I quickly scanned through it to find he was, DEAD? I started researching and as I guessed he did not die. He was actually in two films that I can see. So FYI to anyone coming here, if you see anything that says he died in 2002 or shortly after leaving the show, it is false. Surprisingly to me the article was corrected by the time I finished researching and that's good. The link to this Wikipedia page was, if I may mention, on a very popular controversial-comedy Facebook page which may mean that there will be a new batch of vandalism for a few days. So main point keep an eye on Steven and don't let him die in 2002. Also let's give a thanks to that person who corrected it, whoever you may be. DrAaronStein (talk) 05:33, 1 January 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Aaron, welcome to Wikipedia! I see that you are already addicted. My Wikipedia story is similar to yours; early in my WP career, I also discovered that this article and Blue's Clues is often vandalized. (BTW, I'm watching BC as we speak, with my beautiful daughter! Good times.) I took it upon myself, as the edit history and this talk page shows, to improve both and to defend it against all the kiddie vandalism. See here for the historical evidence of what I came to call "Steve Burns vandalism": Talk:Steve Burns#Death hoax. It continues to be persistent, all these years after Steve's departure and the end of production. I must say, it used to be much worse. It's easy enough to revert, though, but I'm happy you're around now because sometimes it seems that I'm the only editor here who watches these articles, which may explain why it takes a little longer for the vandalism to be dealt with here. You should also know that it's one of my goals to bring the BC article to FA early this year, so look out for that and give your support when it happens, please. In the meantime, have fun, learn lots, and have a great New Year. Oh, and make sure that when you start a new section on a talk page, put it at the bottom. All you have to do is click the "New section" button on the top right. Thanks! Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 15:53, 1 January 2013 (UTC)
Filmography
editWhy doesn't this article have a filmography section? Burns appeared in several television and film roles in addition to his Blues Clues work, and I think the contrast between his "Steve" character and the other characters he played, minor though they might have been, adds interest to the article. New Information!
editSteve Burns has recently come forward to say he didn't leave Blue Clue's for a music career- as the article says, rather he just felt it was time to move on as the creators did. This false information is in the article, and it doesn't site the true reason and I feel it needs to be changed http://www.altpress.com/news/entry/steve_burns_finally_reveals_why_he_left_blues_clues http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/steve-burns-finally-confirms-why-he-left-blues-clues_us_5848f46ce4b0d0aa037f422e] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:186:202:6390:7DD4:CB1C:FF5:ECF3 (talk) 03:52, 19 December 2016 (UTC)
- Yes, that's a cool article, but notice that it uses The Huffington Post as a source, which is on our white list as unreliable because it's user-generated. While I admit is a bummer because much of what's in the article is useful. Burns needs to give that same information, much of which I suspect is ironic and tongue-in-cheek, to a reliable news source, if any wishes to talk with him. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 14:58, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
- Guys, after someone else added some of the info about Steve from The Huff Post, I've reconsidered and improved upon the edits that were made. Yah, the Post isn't the most reliable source, but at this point, it's more important to be comprehensive. It's not like this article is even a GA. Notice that the article contained other info we could've added, but I think the two items I added (Steve's explanation for leaving the show and his new album with Drozd) were the most important and seemed the least gossipy. Others can change it back if they disagree, but I doubt it. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 05:00, 12 March 2017 (UTC)
- The HuffPo quote appears to be misquoted. The section quoted as "a lot of the original people on the show" should actually be "a lot of the original gangsters on the show". This is not a joke. I would fix this myself but I'm anon and the page is locked. 96.234.150.222 (talk) 22:22, 29 April 2020 (UTC)
