Requested move 7 June 2018

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: move The Resident to The Resident (film), per the discussion below. Because there was no consensus to move the TV series to the base title, The Resident has been redirected to Resident, where both the film and the TV series appear. – This TV series is by far the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC which can most noticeably be seen by the page views. The film is a little over 7 years old and is no where as noticeable as the television series. TheDoctorWho (talk) 01:52, 7 June 2018 (UTC)

Episode synopses

Does anyone object to adding episode synopses into the article? I feel that there are a few details in the "Cast and characters" section that would feel more encyclopedic if embedded within appropriate episode summaries. I am more than happy to put in the work to do so. I would also like to add more details to the "Cast and characters" section by expanding character descriptions as much as possible. I understand the reasoning behind not including the 'doctor' title in character names, but the repetitive "______, a doctor", "_____, a doctor", "_____, a doctor" bothers me for some reason. Thoughts? — Miss Sarita 18:46, 16 May 2018 (UTC)

Go for it!!! Many shows don't have episode summaries because nobody has the time or effort to add them. If you want to do it, more power to you. Jdavi333 (talk) 20:05, 16 May 2018 (UTC)
I feel like if it's going to get done, it should be completed while the show is in its first season (since the bulk of the writing will concern character development and plot structure which can be detail-saturated). Updating as the episodes air will be a lot easier. I've never worked on a television series article (mostly music), so I'll do some research on some FAs to help grasp the basics and then slowly work on it. Thank you for your feedback and encouragement. :-) — Miss Sarita 20:32, 16 May 2018 (UTC)
An important point to remember (from MOS:TVPLOT) is to keep all summaries under 200 words. This seems like one that often trips people up. —Joeyconnick (talk) 00:30, 17 May 2018 (UTC)
@Joeyconnick: Thank you for the pointer! I'm kind of happy about the word limit since I tend to be long-winded and don't know when to stop writing. Having a ceiling over my head is a good thing. Haha! — Miss Sarita 04:34, 17 May 2018 (UTC)
@Joeyconnick: Hi, there! I wanted to ask how strict the "200-word limit" is for these summaries. There is a lot of information to float around during the first couple episodes and getting it below 200 words is going to be difficult, so I'm just trying to figure out how detailed (or vague) we have to be. I appreciate your wisdom. Thank you! — Miss Sarita 17:53, 21 May 2018 (UTC)
@Miss Sarita: it's firm... many people will revert edits that add summaries over the limit or edits which push existing summaries over the limit. The summaries are meant to be just that: summaries. There's guidance at MOS:TVPLOT and if you just check out some of the currently airing programs, you'll get a good idea of how people handle that length. —Joeyconnick (talk) 14:31, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
@Joeyconnick: That's what I thought. Thank you very much for guidance! — Miss Sarita 15:07, 22 May 2018 (UTC)

I've been meaning to help fix up this article for a bit now I did a little a work a couple weeks ago but have been very busy since. Around late next week I should have a lot more time on my hands and I'll help where I can. I just added a summary for the finale. TheDoctorWho (talk) 03:40, 17 May 2018 (UTC)

@TheDoctorWho: Sweet! Do you suggest posting episode by episode, or should we write up the summaries offline and then post them all at once? I'm watching the entire first season on my breaks at work (thanks Hulu), so I can make steady progress on it. — Miss Sarita 04:34, 17 May 2018 (UTC)
@Miss Sarita: I'm up for it either way. I've watched all but two of the episodes (also thanks to Hulu) although I'd probably have to refresh my memory on some of the earlier episodes before writing extensive summary's. If we were to go with the post all at once option the best suggestion would be to copy the episode table into a sandbox and work there then copy it back once complete. I'd be happy to use of mine you want? TheDoctorWho (talk) 04:56, 17 May 2018 (UTC)
@TheDoctorWho: Yes! Let's do this! :-) I've watched all of the episodes, but I binged out on the entire season so quickly, I can't remember what happened in which episode. So, I will definitely be reviewing them all before writing the summary. — Miss Sarita 05:08, 17 May 2018 (UTC)
@Miss Sarita: I copied the table into User:TheDoctorWho/sandbox feel free to edit and I'll add in content as I can. There are probably other sections of the article that could use work too. Most notably the article needs a production section. TheDoctorWho (talk) 05:24, 17 May 2018 (UTC)
@TheDoctorWho: Thank you for letting me use your sandbox. I definitely would love to work on the rest of the article, but my main concern was character storylines being placed in the "Cast and characters" section. I wanted to be able to move those into the episodes summaries. Then, I'll work on expanding the "Cast and characters" section (if it isn't already done by then), and then hopefully, there are enough sources out there to create a "Production" section, because you're correct that it should be a priority. I look forward to working with you. :-) — Miss Sarita 05:30, 17 May 2018 (UTC)
@Miss Sarita: Also feel free to copy over other sections too if you need a place to work on them. Hopefully sourcing won't be an issue I haven't looked for any sources yet but this seems to be a pretty popular show. And I look forward to working with you too! TheDoctorWho (talk) 05:59, 17 May 2018 (UTC)

  Done! Episode summaries have been added to all 14 episodes and a major expansion has been done on the rest of the article as well! TheDoctorWho (talk) 02:15, 18 June 2018 (UTC)

Consistency issues

Why is it for this show that the cast changes for season 2 are already being listed with appropriate moves made, while The Flash has its season 5 series regulars have their bios waiting to be unhidden with just a paragraph about the promotions visible in the meantime?--Harmony944 (talk) 21:01, 19 June 2018 (UTC)

Per MOS:TVCAST they are allowed to be moved once announced. There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Television#When to add to infobox? about when it's okay to add them to the infobox. TheDoctorWho (talk) 21:42, 19 June 2018 (UTC)

Copyvio

  • The beginning of the "Production Development" section is completely copied.

Issues

@TheDoctorWho: Starting. AmericanAir88 (talk) 17:20, 24 July 2018 (UTC)

  • Ref 31 is broken.
  • "Formerly called The City" should be at the beginning of the lead, not the middle.
  • The lead should talk a bit more about the show itself and its premise.
  • The lead should include reception and the most notable awards.
  • Any more info on Filming? Seems short
  • Picture of the cast or any notable actor in the cast?
  • Premise needs some citations.
  • Critical Response could be bigger.

Honestly, not much to critique about. I would like to see this a bit longer in some sections (critical response, lead, filming).

@AmericanAir88:
  • Tagged ref 31 with {{Dead link}} for now and plan to see if i can find an archived version or alternative source
  • Moved "Formally called The City" to be right after the show title in the lead.
  • The lead was expanded more about the show itself when info on the critical response and reception was added.
  • Added sentence and ref for rank and average viewers for reception in lead. Also added mention of Teen Choice Award nomination.
  • Not much else I could find on filming but did add a statement mentioning second season filming.
  • Picture of two notable cast members are in the casting section of production
  • Per MOS:TVPLOT: Plot summaries may be sourced from the works themselves, as long as only basic descriptions are given. The premise section is an overall view of the plot for the series and shouldn't need sourced if I am correct.
  • Extended critical response section.
As for the copyvio I believe the only problem is the quote box at the top of the production section. Will that be an issue? Other than ref 31 which I still intend to look at that should take care of the above issues. TheDoctorWho (talk) 20:34, 24 July 2018 (UTC)

@TheDoctorWho: The copyvio is fine. Nice job. Finish up the dead link and I will do a second sweep. AmericanAir88 (talk) 02:07, 25 July 2018 (UTC)

@AmericanAir88:   Done I found a source that quoted the previous tweet. TheDoctorWho (talk) 02:15, 25 July 2018 (UTC)

@TheDoctorWho: Pass. AmericanAir88 (talk) 14:28, 26 July 2018 (UTC)

The characters section contains major spoilers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:40F:4000:3D0:5574:BEAD:B7FF:3C01 (talk) 23:04, 5 June 2022 (UTC)
