I erased the scouting project tag

This person has nothing to do with the Scouting movement whatsoever. He published a book claiming the founder was homosexual, because he had headaches, and had to sleep out on the balcony for cool fresh air, instead of with his wife, and therefor must be gay. Plus she had short hair, and like many women involved in Boy Scouts, wore a Boy Scout uniform! Surely that must make him homosexual. Well, I have to say that I do not find the comments above or your edit summary, "he is not important to the scouting movement, simply because he publish a ridiculous book claiming the founder was gay. Nothing to do with scouting" very intelligent. First, the tag is from the Scouting WikiProject not the Scouting Portal and I think it up the particpants in that project to decide whether this article comes under it interests. If you do not agree, you should argue the case at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Scouting. I have added the tag back again and will consider removal of it without consensus of the Project to be vandalism. Second, I do not think you have read his book on Baden-Powell. Newspaper reviews do not always give the best account of a book. It does not claim he was homosexual. It is without doubt a most scholarly biography (not a ridiculous book) of Baden-Powell and perhaps the most important that has been written. I am surprised that the article on Jeal does not say more about it. I will draw the attention of the Scouting Project to this deficiency. --Bduke (Discussion) 03:02, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

Agree with Jeal or not, his is the influential bio on BP. Whether that influence is good, bad, or indifferent is for another thread. Criticism of book

The following criticism was deleted from the article by User:Cacrats

The book had its detractors. One reviewer wrote: "If Jeal's attempt was the resurrection of a humane Stanley, then I must judge him a complete failure," going on to suggest that "the author should have set aside any biased personal agendas and let history speak for itself. Instead, Jeal writes a political book in defence of a historical monster."

We have an academic source Human Rights Quarterly, by notable professor Makau W. Mutua. This is how Wikipedia works. We allow for multiple POVs regardless if you personally agree with them or not. In fact Mutua's position is not unusual, Stanley is a controversial figure, Makau W. Mutua is not the only one who sees Stanly as a "historical monster". In fact that's one reason Jeal wrote the book as historical revisionism from a post-post-colonialism perspective - if all you know is Jeals book and nothing of the past 40+ years of post-colonialsm studies than of course you will disagree with Mutua. Regardless, I don't believe there are grounds for deleting this reliable source just because one disagrees with Makau W. Mutua's critical opinion. -- GreenC 15:57, 14 March 2017 (UTC)
