I disagree, no one has advertised their blogs. For example, follow one of the most popular blogs on tumblr today, rebelliouss-spirit.tumblr.com

Meaning?

"Jeff Rock created the Tumblr app for the iPhone, which was acquired by Tumblr in 2009." Does this mean that Tumblr has acquired iPhone or one iPhone or what? Maybe they acquired the app? Comparison to other blogging platforms?

Is this a section worth adding? Would be good to see why this service is used or ignored by different bloggers.

For example Tumblr's multimedia capabilities and its ease of posting content are its strength, but it lacks some features that other blogging platforms have.(Joetimes (talk) 09:49, 21 April 2010 (UTC))

Tumblr is a tool

Tumblr is a new age way of blogging that can be complex. Tumblr is a tool used to post pictures you've taken and also allows you freedom to post things that interest you. Tumblr also allows you freedom to customize your page and add music to it. Most people use Tumblr for posting pictures or "reblogging" which is what you do when you see a picture you like that you want visible on your page. Laughs because her dashboard is filled litterally 8am-1am everyday. I think your statistics are a bit off, seeing as Tumblr is an emotion dump/Homestuck Country/Yaoi City, most of the people on there are always on Tumblr, therefore your statistics are incorrect. Hey, I'm not saying I hate Tumblr, I actually love it! Mobile App

Tumblr is an easy to use site, requiring only a username/password/email address to begin and then you are set. This site is user-generated and requires the posts of its users in order to survive. You are able to follow and search for different users, and you can even search for specific tags in order to find what you are looking for.

"tumblelog"

The first section mentions that Tumblr blogs are named "tumblelogs". It may have been called that some time ago, but it seems that Tumblr now sticks to just calling the blogs "blogs". The word "tumblelog" does not appear on the about page, in the terms of service, or, as far as I can tell, anywhere else on the non-user-generated part of the page (all the www.tumblr.com/tumblelog/xyz links redirect to www.tumblr.com/blog/xyz). --Allion (talk) 18:11, 12 September 2012 (UTC)

Sorry, I'm new to this and I'm not sure if this is the correct place to suggest this, but I feel like the "User Types" section has too much voice, is biased, and looks unprofessional.

For example, in the fourth sentence, "etc." is spelled as "ect." Later on, referring to the "fangirls" of tumblr the "invented" (citation?) phrases have the commas outside the quotation marks and the phrase that they are "sarcastic about anything and everything" seems cliche. Furthermore, most sentences start with "there have" or "they are," which is dead construction, and Tumblr isn't capitalized throughout. Lastly, the statements about "Hipster" blogs posting images of self-harm and the girls behind "peppy" blogs being popular on Facebook (uncapitalized) seem like broad generalizations.

I have removed that whole section as it was unsourced and not neutral, as well as having the other problems you pointed out. One section added by this project group, Culture, was removed by an editor on 29 Mar with some fairly cryptic comments on the edit description line. In what ways could this section be improved (we are aware that there needs to be more citations and the format for several need to be corrected)? Reporting on the number and kinds of users and uses associated with Tumblr would seem to be relevant to what the article is trying to do. We would be glad to hear contrary or additional opinions on whether this section can potentially be helpful in making the article better. Marco Arment as Co-Founder

The article calls Marco Arment a "co-founder", citing a news article Marco characterized himself on Twitter as "technically an employee, not a founder." I have no idea what's accurate and am not editing the article, just noting the discrepancy. Nelson (talk) 16:42, 18 May 2013 (UTC)

Both statements are kinda true. Arment was an employee of Karp's and was not a founder of Tumblr, Inc (the company). He did co-found/co-create Tumblr (the website) though. Are websites founded? The Business Insider article says Arment "was named cofounder and CTO earlier this year [2010]." Can someone be retroactively named a founder of a company? I'll see if I can find another source for this happening to help clarify. It's one of those things where you have to be on the site to know. If they did a survey I'm sure the reaction would be negative, considering Tumblr users feel strongly about Yahoo! possibly changing the game of the site up, with their anti-porn status which would limit many blogs who not only post porn but blogs who post fanfiction or fanart. --Matt723star (talk) 18:51, 19 May 2013 (UTC)

Bad statistics, no source

This statement: "It has been noted that Tumblr is popular with the female demographic, with 53.5% of visitors being female as of 2011. 17% of Tumblr users are Hispanic, compared to 9% of US internet users who are Hispanic. 10% are African American, which is slightly higher than on the internet in general."

Has no source, and seems to compare global Hispanic users percentage to American Hispanic users percentage, which is a statistical fallacy.
