Do we need this page?

edit

Do we need this page? I mean, the character has appeared with a main role just in JL and its editor’s cut. Redjedi23 (talk) 20:03, 4 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Let's keep this discussion centralized at WT:FILM#Useless superhero character articles. InfiniteNexus (talk) 05:12, 5 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Alright, here's the resubmitted merge request on behalf of Redjedi23. But after reviewing this page, yes, I'll agree with RedJedi that it might not meet WP:NFILMCHAR. Cyborg only appears in two films and had two further appearances axed, and much of the extensive coverage was aimed towards the controversy between the character's actor, Ray Fisher, and the de facto director of Justice League, Joss Whedon. Some coverage on the character's behind-the-scenes development was also included but might not be "extensive".

My vote would be to redirect this page to the "Victor Stone / Cyborg" section of Characters of the DC Extended Universe or simply to the "In other media/DC Extended Universe" section of the main Cyborg page. Some material can be moved to Production of Justice League (film) in a similar fashion as Steppenwolf (DC Extended Universe). WuTang94 (talk) 01:01, 12 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

EDIT: I'll be sure to add material from this page to both the main Cyborg page and the "Victor Stone / Cyborg" portion of the DCEU characters list page, to address Piotrus's concern. -WuTang94 (talk) 04:54, 15 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
I agree with the redirect to Characters of the DC Extended Universe Redjedi23 (talk) 08:04, 12 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
I'd rather see this merged to Cyborg (DC Comics). People who want to learn about this character are much more likely to go there rather than the Characters of the DC Extended Universe. PS. To be clear, just redirecting is not ideal as it would result in a loss of information. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 03:18, 15 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
Material can be merged to the main Cyborg page, but as is the practice with iterations of comics characters in both the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the DC Extended Universe, redirects go to subsections in ether of the MCU character list pages or the DCEU list page. For example: May Parker (Marvel Cinematic Universe) redirects to Characters_of_the_Marvel_Cinematic_Universe:_M–Z#May_Parker, but at the start of that section, there is a "See also" link to the mainline version of Aunt May. Sorry for the lack of action, guys. I've been busy lately and merging the information in this page and an few other DCEU character pages is gonna be a bit complex, as it will go into several other existing pages. I'll see if I have time this weekend to take care of it. WuTang94 (talk) 17:55, 14 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Finally getting to huffing the pages we deemed do not meet WP:NFILMCHAR. I've gotten two Schumacherverse characters and DCEU Mera, but admittedly, Victor Stone/Cyborg looks like the most challenging one. Even if a lot of the information can be moved to other pages, so much of the specific information on Cyborg's development and Ray Fisher's conflicts are stored here, so if we're going to continue with the merge, I'll go through it and move the info elsewhere beforehand. Imo we should go ahead with the merge. Anyway, thank you so much! Redjedi23 (talk) 18:41, 18 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks WuTang. InfiniteNexus (talk) 19:26, 21 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
I'm heavily opposed to merging this article with anything. Cyborg was slated to have his own solo film and a large role in The Flash that were cut entirely due to racism from executives at Warner Bros. The complete mishandling of Cyborg's character is a very important example of contemporary racism in the film industry that must be kept in detail. Merging it with anything would threaten to erase this racist incident from history. ☞ Rim < Talk | Edits > 23:16, 25 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Uhm, that can be reported in the Production of Justice League (film) article. DCEU Cyborg is not notable. The controversy regarding the actor is notable. Redjedi23 (talk) 23:25, 25 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
I'm still against a merge as it is likely many details would be cut out in the process. If you do end up merging it with the Production page, its incredibly important that nothing is omitted and that everything about the incident is kept thoroughly detailed. It would be a great loss to gloss over anything, especially with how the character was written out of future films from what were essentially racist reasonings. ☞ Rim < Talk | Edits > 00:00, 27 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Fisher leaving his role after the investigation is already reported in the Production of Justice League (film) and in The Flash articles. Any other relevant information (that is not already reported) can be moved in other pages without any problem.
I repeat, the character is not notable. That's the important thing that should guide us in the decision of keeping or not the page. Redjedi23 (talk) 11:01, 27 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
