La tentation
edit- ... that audiences adored the appearance of Pauline Duvernay rising apparently naked from a cauldron surrounded by demons in Fromental Halévy's opera-ballet La tentation?

- Comment - would be nice if approved to go up on March 17th, 150th anniversary of Halévy's death.--Smerus (talk) 14:21, 13 March 2012 (UTC)
- Length and date of creation are fine. The image has an appropriate PD tag. The article appears to meet core policies, including sourcing. The only problem is that the hook fact is not set forth in the article. The hook fact needs to be in the article and to be sourced with inline reference. There's reference to the naked rising, cauldron and demons in the plot synopsis but nothing about audiences having "adored" (or reacted
in any manner) to that particular scene. Cbl62 (talk) 00:05, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
- Well, it does make clear, and source, that the scene was popular - but if it is felt important to be literal I suggest:
- Alt 1 - ... that Pauline Duvernay (pictured) rose apparently naked from a cauldron surrounded by demons in Fromental Halévy's opera-ballet La tentation? --Smerus (talk) 07:55, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
- if I missed something on the original hook, happy to reconsider. Can you direct me to the source regarding the adoring part.Cbl62 (talk) 14:17, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
- The original source (not online - Jourdan 1994, p. 40) says about this scene 'Duvernay was temptation incarnate - young, innocent-looking helpless and ravishing [...] That Mlle. Duvernay had become the idol of Paris was unquestionable'. I admit this could seem equivocal (as not specific to emerging from the cauldron) - so am happy to go with Alt1 if it is OK with you.--Smerus (talk) 14:31, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
Alt 1 looks fine, though I have to assume good faith on the plot synopsis which is sourced to the original French work here. If someone literate in French was able to verify, that would be great. Cbl62 (talk) 22:49, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
- Comment - You are being a bit over-the-top here, I suggest! - the plot is double-sourced in the article both from an English summary and the French original.--Smerus (talk) 08:32, 16 March 2012 (UTC)
- David - I have approved your hook. I did so because I have assumed good faith on your part even though I do not have access to your source materials. Your English language source is not available online, and the other source is in French. In such a case, there is nothing "over the top"' "I suggest!" in soliciting input from someone who can actually comprehend the source material. Please be patient and assume good faith.
