No, check out the first definition of publican in wiktionary. Shall we link the hook to wiktionary? English isn't my first language, so I'm not sure whether 'publican' is a term specific to NZ or British English, but unknown in the US, say. Schwede 66 10:04, 23 February 2012 (UTC)

Okay, thanks for the explanation. I'm American and I've never heard the word before. Given it's British English, according to the wiktionary, and since we're looking for the global audience, I think it's best to drop the word. – Muboshgu (talk) 15:10, 23 February 2012 (UTC)
