- The size and timing of the article seem fine. But there are some issues:
- The image is not free and so is not allowed in the DYK entry on the main page, though it seems fine to have it in the article.
- The hook could use some work. The fact that stunned me when I read the obituary was that she was only 13 when she died. I feel strongly that we should make something of her being so young when she became famous.
- Some paragraphs don't have any citations and we usually expect at least one per para.
- So, the article is interesting and has good promise as a DYK but needs some more attention please to make the grade. Andrew Davidson (talk) 13:19, 2 August 2013 (UTC)
- While I feel this would normally have the potential to be a fine DYK, it needs to be acknowledged—and indeed should have been mentioned when nominated—that this nomination was very late: the article was created on July 16, yet not nominated until August 1, a full ten days past the normal five-day deadline for nominating it. Under the circumstances, this may well be a case to invoke WP:IAR and also WP:DYKSG#D9 (the latter allows for the possibility of an exception, but is by no means guaranteed). In the meantime, I have removed the non-free image from this page and "pictured" from the hooks, and should probably also point out that the bare URLs in the article must be turned into regular references per DYK rules. - That's a fair point but note that the article was at AFD for a good portion of that time and that may have confused matters. I'm inclined to let it pass as there are more important issues to resolve and we shouldn't let a formality get in the way of this. Andrew Davidson (talk) 10:22, 5 August 2013 (UTC)
- I say WP:IAR and lets get on with more immediate matters than an already DYK ready article.--BabbaQ (talk) 11:02, 5 August 2013 (UTC)
- Not quite DYK ready; as Andrew pointed out, the article needs more references – specifically for the "Early life" section and the first paragraph of the "Media attention" section (I've added one ref myself, and fixed the bare urls). But I agree that we should invoke IAR and overlook the timing problem. DoctorKubla (talk) 19:01, 5 August 2013 (UTC)
- I think we are way to picky with this article. OK every line is not sourced but so is the case with most DYK articles they are new for a reason. This article has 12 references already which all covers the mentioned information of the lines. 12 references are good. Give this article a break.--BabbaQ (talk) 21:05, 5 August 2013 (UTC)
- BabbaQ, I think you need to be willing to follow the DYK rules. Please supply the missing references for those paragraphs that have none; if there are reliable sources out there, they should be easy enough for you to find, and as nominator it's your job to find them and insert them into the article. DYK nominations manage to meet this requirement day after day; if there are ones that haven't, then they shouldn't have been approved. This article has already been given a break. At this point, it's entirely your actions going forward that will determine whether it sees the front page. BlueMoonset (talk) 21:31, 5 August 2013 (UTC)
- I will leave it to someone else to determine whether this is indeed finally DYK ready; it certainly wasn't before, and the continuing insistence that it was inevitably calls into question BabbaQ's judgment in DYK matters. BlueMoonset (talk) 23:43, 5 August 2013 (UTC)
The references added by BabbaQ weren't really sufficient, so I've replaced them with better ones. We still need a reference for the quote "when it's my turn to go, I'll be okay with that" (per WP:V, direct quotes always require inline citations), and personally, I'd like to see a ref for the statement about palliative care. BabbaQ also hasn't addressed Andrew's concerns about the hook. DoctorKubla (talk) 07:29, 6 August 2013 (UTC)
