Cases in Quebec now at 74 total 76.69.250.66 (talk) 22:21, 17 March 2020 (UTC)

Edit request - Ontario March 18th is wrong
editTotal is now 211, not 205. The 205 is the number of *active* cases; there are 5 recoveries and 1 death as well. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.46.25.140 (talk) 16:57, 18 March 2020 (UTC)

editThe Quebec link is missing. Could you add the link article titled "2020 coronavirus pandemic in Quebec" on both links that has has "QC" was unlinked. Thanks. 2001:569:74D2:A800:C955:CE75:3DDA:DC2A (talk) 23:59, 18 March 2020 (UTC)
Recoveries
editToday this template says that there have been a cumulative total of eleven recoveries, the same as eight days ago. That would mean that in eight days not one single person in Canada has recovered (as opposed to the eleven people who recovered before March 13. Surely that is not what sources say. If we don't know the number of cases recovered since March 12, we shouldn't present the March 12 data as if it is March 19 data. Noel S McFerran (talk) 23:48, 19 March 2020 (UTC)
References
editThank you to everybody who is helping to fill out this table. Just a friendly reminder to add sources in the Sources column every day when there are deaths or other important events in order to keep the integrity of the data. Furthermore, I know this is tedious, but if you update a provincial number you have to update the access date in that province's reference. Right now we have March 23 data for Ontario that was retrieved on March 20. Thank you. -- Kndimov (talk) 15:47, 23 March 2020 (UTC)
- Hi everyone, please read the above. We cannot have data from March 25th retrieved on March 16 like we do with BC. -- Kndimov (talk) 13:56, 26 March 2020 (UTC)
Alberta update for March 23, from video(only): Total now 301.
editTo hear the number in this video, you have to shove the video curser all the way left. Layzeeboi (talk) 22:17, 23 March 2020 (UTC)
BC numbers
editThe BC numbers from the 24th, which were announced as broken up between two dates, should all be listed under the 24th. This is because this template shows how many cases had been reported as confirmed on a given date. Thus, the number for March 23 shows how many cases had been reported as confirmed on the 23rd. Other than this one instance, we don't have any data for when confirmed cases actually happened other than when they were reported. Surely, ON's 100 cases reported at 10:30 am today didn't all happen between midnight and 10:30 am, but they were all reported today so they're listed today. For the sake of consistency, we shouldn't change the way we display the data for this once instance in British Columbia. This is how every nation's COVID article has been displaying this data, as it is the only consist way to do so.UmpireRay (talk) 16:13, 25 March 2020 (UTC)
Footnote overload
editConsidering that this table is going to continue to grow for some time, I have to ask, are notes 2, 4, 6 and 7 even necessary in this table? These are pretty mundane announcements overall, and these footnotes do not add clarity to the table. I might suggest that we restrict such notes to entries where a reader would be likely to have questions - such as when a day has a negative count or to explain why Quebec suddenly jumped so high so fast. Resolute 23:26, 26 March 2020 (UTC)
- I concur. I will remove those footnotes.UmpireRay (talk) 16:30, 27 March 2020 (UTC)

Provincial & Canada totals correction request - May 1st
editI do not know where the error occurred but the total number of cases for 3 provinces does not match the official government totals. In addition, the total number of cases and deaths for Canada is not correct.
Sourced from https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/diseases/2019-novel-coronavirus-infection.html?topic=tilelink
Summary of corrections requested:
- Manitoba
- Total cases should be 279
- In addition, it seems that the 11 presumptive cases has been there a while. Where is the number of presumptive cases sourced from because the Gov of Manitoba site does not list these. IMHO, presumptive cases is not a meaningful stat.
- Ontario
- Total cases should be 16,187
- Quebec
- Total cases should be 28,648
- Canada
- Total cases should be 55,061
- Total deaths should be 3,391
These corrections will also impact the other totals in the table. Thank You Jcharest57 (talk) 12:45, 2 May 2020 (UTC)
- The 11 presumptive cases does come from the Manitoba government's site, here: https://www.gov.mb.ca/covid19/updates/data.html
With respect to Ontario, May 1st's total is 16,608 per the Ontario government. You are right about Quebec, and I have edited accordingly. Thanks for the corrections. UmpireRay (talk) 13:41, 2 May 2020 (UTC)

- Not done: It will be surely be done, but this doesn't require an edit request, unless you collect the data yourself and format it appropriately so it can be added to the page without having to mess about too much. RandomCanadian (talk | contribs) 23:55, 13 May 2020 (UTC)

Nova Scotia total cases is incorrect. 1057 as of today. May 31 should be 0 cases. I think perhaps NS and NB have been transposed that day. 24.224.194.180 (talk) 15:13, 2 June 2020 (UTC)

Totals for provinces, daily, recoveries, deaths, active
edit📊 To other active editors (@Jcharest57, UmpireRay, Jmdyck, and Kobalt22, and others): how are you managing the data in this table? I created a Google spreadsheet and use totals from there after filling out daily data, and it helps find inconsistencies. If anyone else would like access to this sheet, please email me. Thanks! // sikander { talk } 🦖 15:15, 25 July 2020 (UTC)
- I have my own spreadsheet. The issue is with the daily increments, especially for recovered cases. It changes frequently. The recoveries increment on Jul 17 was reported to be 23,851, and this is what I had determined as well. The value was later changed to 23,787. No idea how that was determined. Jcharest57 (talk) 22:08, 25 July 2020 (UTC)
- @Jcharest57: Ah OK, got it. Also, I agree that the recoveries and deaths are difficult to parse because they're not broken down by province. Is it possible to create hidden columns here on Wiki? That can help track the data and figure out why numbers are changing. // sikander { talk } 🦖 01:56, 26 July 2020 (UTC)
- @Sikander: I have a spreadsheet that's just taking the data by province as reported by the CTV tracker. @Jcharest57: is right to point out that the increments can be inconsistent especially with recoveries. In that case, I think it's best to use the tracking from a single reliable source (I'm not wedded to CTV's tracker but it's the best I've seen) rather than our own individual tallies. Adding additional tables for deaths and recoveries by province (the US equivalent to this template also has a death by state table) I think could be wise so the data is easier to track. If we go down that route, I think we should backfill using the data from the CTV tracker so we are all consistent and using the same reliable source. UmpireRay (talk) 20:05, 26 July 2020 (UTC)
- @UmpireRay: That's great and looks like everyone is using their own spreadsheet, definitely is easiest to track that way. I didn't know of the CTV tracker and it looks very detailed and useful. Can we add hidden columns to the table here on Wiki? If we can, then adding deaths/recoveries per province will make it so much easier to track. // sikander { talk } 🦖 14:52, 29 July 2020 (UTC)
- @Sikander: I wrote programs to download the wikitext, parse it, extract the data, and check it for internal consistency. I also did this for the other wikipages in this area, and I check for discrepancies between the different datasets, though some differences are to be expected since they're based on different sources. It's frustrating that although all these tables and graphs are essentially just different views of the same underlying dataset, there's nothing to ensure that they stay coherent. In my dream world, there would be one page (or set of pages) that supplied all the necessary data (in some format that was easy to check, update, and parse), and then all the different tables and graphs would be automatically generated from that data. (This might also help with the PEIS problems, because the wikitext for the graphs in particular is ridiculously repetitive.) However, I'm doubtful that that could actually happen at this point. Jmdyck (talk) 00:25, 2 August 2020 (UTC)
- @Jmdyck: That's excellent, and yes unfortunately it will be difficult to get everyone to adopt a new setup. // sikander { talk } 🦖 00:43, 2 August 2020 (UTC)
