That's... that's some template. Is it possible that we could cut it down a little? UltraExactZZ Claims ~ Evidence 03:59, 16 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

  • I think all the colleges and universities are affiliated with University of Calcutta. And that makes this template giant. Redundancy might be exist in this template. I've already removed one. But the concern is they are under different grades and classifications with different council, commissions and as well as degrees. --NAHID 08:19, 20 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ramakrishna Mission Siksha Mandira

edit

Is the above institution really exist? Google hits show nothing but its own entry Ramakrishna Mission. Though another link show it's a college, but there is no information exist but its establishment date--NAHID 17:25, 22 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Making this template's size reasonable

edit

The template size is not reasonable. Colleges are sometimes listed as many as seven times, this just can't stay. An exclusive grouping must be decided so each college is only listed once. I removed the most obviously redundant ones and things that do not belong in the navbox at all, but still a college may appear five times. --Muhandes (talk) 17:39, 26 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Does this template still serve a purpose

edit

Dear @B de2002:, @Soumitrahazra:, @Muhandes: and @GhanaDa:,
At first a lot of thanks for creating such a template. However, I have a question. What is the necessity to enter the section "Associated research and training institutes"? Max of these institutes have no relation with University of Calcutta.
Thanking you,
--P.Shiladitya✍talk 02:53, 23 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

My latest involvement with this template was in 2012 and it didn't look remotely like it does today. Originally this template listed affiliated colleges. As nav templates for more than 100 institutes does not work well, this edit removed them all (an action which I agree with), leaving institutes which are, according to what you are saying, less related (to say the least). If what you say is correct, I think the template serves little purpose now. The correct solution seems to be WP:TFD. I will support (or I can initiate it if you prefer it this way). --Muhandes (talk) 08:34, 23 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
By the way, this discussion should not take place here, it should be moved to the template talk page. Either move it or I can do it, as you prefer. --Muhandes (talk) 08:56, 23 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
Dear @Muhandes:,

Thanks for your reply.

♦These type of questions are purely my opinion. And that's why, I prefer to post it on my talk page.

♦Now I want to modify my opinion slightly. I have no problem with that section in that template. However, some entries should be removed.

♦I have categorized the name of the institutes as affiliated, autonomous, recognised and Not mentioned. Recognized & affiliated - are they both same?

♦The list is here -

⟩⟩ If you wish, you can move this discussion. [How to move a discussion on a different page?]

Thanking again,

I moved the discussion.
If I understand correctly, you are trying to save this template.
  • affiliated colleges: should not appear on the template, as the template already includes this list.
I removed Bengal Music College, Government College of Art & Craft, Indian Institute of Social Welfare and Business Management, Institute of Jute Technology
I can't find Indian Institute of Chemical Biology on the list, so I suggest further testing.

Dear @Muhandes:,

Thanks.

  • Yes you are right. I have no issue with the template, except some entries under the section 'Associated research and training institutes'.

»»However, I have a doubt. Indian Institute of Chemical Biology is a central Government institute under Council of Scientific and Industrial Research. It has been written on the wikipedia page that this institute is affiliated under University of Calcutta. But the name of the institute has not been mentioned inList of colleges currently affiliated with the University of Calcutta. Moreover, there is no such mention on official webpage of Indian Institute of Chemical Biology. University of Calcutta is not directly under Council of Scientific and Industrial Research and generally these type of Institutes (like Indian Institute of Chemical Biolog) are autonomous. I think, we should discuss it with other editors to search for some references.

  • recognised- I seriously do not know.

>> Calcutta Metropolitan Institute of Gerontology - Template:University of Calcutta →Associated research and training institutes→(second entry)

>> Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science- Template:University of Calcutta →Associated research and training institutes→(fourth entry)

I think we can discuss with other editors for better opinions.
