Assessment issues

edit

There is a problem with this template or it's operation & I can't work out what it is.... I originally created {{Somerset}} for Wikipedia:WikiProject Somerset & had advice that is wasn't working properly & didn't "nest" on article talk pages. I also took ages to get it to handle importance ratings. Then this template was created & a redirect put on {{Somerset}} and I added a few importance ratings to several articles. The bot has now been round & is displaying the results in relation to class & importance at Wikipedia:WikiProject Somerset#Current status. In the process we have now lost about 500 articles which had the original banner (including most of the FA, GA & B class) & I can't work out why. Some examples:

So that gives the impression that anything with an importance ranking doesn't show up, however

I can not understand why some do & some don't appear, and would appreciate any help or advice. I will put this request on other relevant pages but think the discussion should be here.— Rod talk 19:23, 4 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

I see the issue; your template doesn't include any of the code to convert the ratings (FA, A, G etc) into the appropriate categories specific to your Project (Category:FA-Class Somerset articles, Category:A-Class Somerset articles, Category:GA-Class Somerset articles, Category:B-Class Somerset articles, Category:Start-Class Somerset articles, Category:Stub-Class Somerset articles). This categorization is what's used to generate the data for your WP statistics report. I believe the ones that show up do so because of other templates. If you're up to it, check out {{WikiProject Soap Operas}} and steal/adapt the appropriate coding. TAnthony 20:20, 4 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for spotting the problem - but I think I'm well out of my league of technical competence here— Rod talk 20:30, 4 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
OK, I think I've done it; if you check the categories above, they are now populated. Do some more testing by rating some articles ... your examples above are a bit unique because I think some of the other templates on those pages are assigning or not assigning cats. I'll poke around a bit. TAnthony 20:40, 4 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the help (I'm watching your edits) but there should be 4 in FA & 8 in GA listed on Wikipedia:WikiProject Somerset in Featured & Good content sections (which have all been rated) & about 60 in class=B catgories.— Rod talk 20:54, 4 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, for some reason it seems to be fussy with the {{Somerset}} transclusion, which shouldn't be an issue. TAnthony 20:59, 4 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
For example, Talk:Chew Valley Lake and Talk:Mendip Hills use {{Somerset}} and though the FA category appears, the articles were not listed there. I switched the template for Talk:Mendip Hills and it appeared in the cat. Something must be off somewhere in the upgraded template. TAnthony 21:04, 4 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
It seems to be working now for the transcluded template, perhaps it was a server backlog issue. TAnthony 22:08, 4 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
It was the job queue, most likely. Glad to see it's been sorted out. — madman bum and angel 23:00, 4 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Now lost importance

edit

The bot has now run & updated the "Current Status" at Wikipedia:WikiProject Somerset. We are back up to 1528 articles which includes all of those assessed as FA, GA, B etc class. However all of the importance ratings (which have been done for over 100 of the articles) have disappeared from the status report - anyone know why & can help us get this function working again?— Rod talk 08:47, 8 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've restored the importance parameter, but I don't see anywhere near the 100 items you mentioned on my talk page coming up in the categories. Looking at the last statistics run which included them, I only see like 29. Are you using non-standard terms instead of "mid" and "low" etc? The categories were already created in the past so I don't think that's the issue. TAnthony 16:42, 8 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the help I'm now seeing:

Maybe I exaggerated with over 100 done - but the total doesn't equal the 1528 identified for the class listing.— Rod talk 16:47, 8 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, it seems like it's the same job queue delay as before; the numbers have actually updated themselves from your post above, I now count 1532 among the categories (4 top, 12 high, 28 mid, 37 low and 1451 unknown) TAnthony 17:42, 8 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Brilliant - thanks for all your help & I'll now wait another 3 days before the bot runs again to be absolutely sure everything is working properly.— Rod talk 18:18, 8 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
