Local elections were held in Majayjay, Laguna, on May 9, 2022, as part of the Philippine general election. Held concurrently with the national elections, the electorate voted to elect a mayor, a vice mayor, eight members of the municipal council, two board member to the Laguna Provincial Board, and a representative to the House of Representatives. Those elected assumed their respective posts on June 30, 2022, alongside other local and national officials.[1] 17,780 of 20,280 registered voters voted in these elections.[2]
Incumbent Mayor Carlo Invinzor Clado lost his bid to Romeo Amorado, a new name in politics, with a wide margin, Amorado supporter's and some Clado's supporter said it was a upset victory, Clado then accept his defeat. Incumbent Vice Mayor Lauro Mentilla is eligible for running for reelection, but instead retire and give way to the candidate of the opposition, incumbent Councilor Juan Ariel Argañosa Jr., Argañosa later won defeating Clado's running-mate Edison Reyes, respectively. The Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan under the coalition Dos for Dos, won 4 seats in the municipal council, while the primary opposition coalition, the coalition Dobol A won 3 seats, 2 from Nacionalista wing and 1 from Aksyon Demokratiko wing and a Independent won a seat, respectively.[2][3][4]
Background
editIncumbent Mayor Carlo Invinzor Clado is running for his third and final term, Clado run under the Partido Demokratikong Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP–Laban), his main opponent is Romeo Amorado of the Nacionalista Party (Nacionalista).[5] Romeo is the brother of former Vice Mayor Eulogio Wilson Amorado. Eulogio Wilson also run for Mayor in 2019 but lost to Clado.[6]
Incumbent Vice Mayor Lauro Mentilla did not seek reelection, his party did not name any candidate, but he is showing his support to incumbent Councilor Juan Ariel Argañosa Jr. running under Aksyon Demokratiko (Aksyon)[5], his main opponent is former Councilor Edison Reyes of the Partido Demokratikong Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP–Laban). Reyes run for this position in 2019 but lost to Mentilla.[6]
Incumbent Councilor's are Juan Aries Argañosa Jr., Celestino Norman Sotto, Pia Monteagudo–Ceria, Ma. Fe Bandillo–Cabonce, Anastacio Hernandez, Efren Bituin, Maria Thess Melendez and Leonor Gripo–Andaya.[6] Incumbent's Celestino Norman Sotto, Pia Monteagudo–Ceria, Ma. Fe Bandillo–Cabonce, Anastacio Hernandez and Efren Bituin are seeking reelection. Incumbent Juan Aries Argañosa Jr. choose to run for Vice Mayor, incumbent Maria Thess Melendez is term-limited and not running for any position and incumbent Leonor Gripo–Andaya did not seek reelection.
Tickets
editAs the mayor, vice mayor and the members of the municipal council are elected on the same ballot, mayoral candidates may present or endorse a slate of candidates. These slates usually run with their respective mayoral and vice mayoral candidates along with the other members of their slate. A group of candidates independent of any mayoral or vice mayoral candidate may also form a slate consisting of themselves.[7]

editIncumbent Mayor is Carlo Invinzor "Jojo" Clado, Clado was re-elected in 2019 with 8,030 votes or 52.29% of the total votes casted. Clado run for his third and final term, he was nominated by the administration and run under PDP–Laban.
The opposition nominated the brother of former Vice Mayor Wilson Eulogio Amorado, Romeo Amorado or Romy called by his supporters, Amorado is new name in politics, he was nominated by Nacionalista Party and with the support of Aksyon Demokratiko.

Vice mayoralty election
editIncumbent Vice Mayor Lauro "Larry" Mentilla was elected in 2019 with 7,735 votes or 51.72% of the total votes casted. Mentilla did not seek reelection and give way to incumbent Councilor Juan Ariel Argañosa Jr. to run for the position as Opposition candidate under Aksyon Demokratiko and with the support of Nacionalista Party.
The Administration nominated again former Councilor Edison Reyes for the position under PDP–Laban.

Municipal council elections
editThe Majayjay Municipal Council (Sangguniang Bayan) is composed of eight councilors elected to serve three-year terms. The election for the council is done via multiple non-transferable vote in which a voter has eight votes to distribute to eight different candidates. The eight candidates with the most votes will be elected to the council.
Incumbent Maria Thess Melendez was term-limited and not running for any higher position, Incumbent Juan Ariel Argañosa Jr. choose to run for Vice Mayor, Incumbent Leonor Gripo–Andaya did not seek reelection and did not run for any higher position, Incumbent's Celestino Norman Sotto, Pia Monteagudo–Ceria, Maria Fe Bandillo–Cabonce, Anastacio Hernandez and Efren Bituin are seeking reelection.
Eulogio Wilson Amorado, Juancho Andaya, Godofredo Estupigan, Valeriano Vito Jr. and Edgardo Zornosa are returbing their seats back.
Candidate Valeriano Vito Jr. suddenly died, his wife Jasmin Vito became his substitute.
