Various phobias

I noticed that you reverted the recent edit showing that Salome Zurabishvili called for restoration of the monarchy in Georgia under the Bagrationi dynasty. Although the editor who added it to the article appears to be unreliable on non-royalty issues, the ITAR-Tass article he cited seems authentic. Yet you consider it rumor? I am a member of the AMA (Association of Members' Advocates) currently acting on behalf of User:Caligvla, who has named you as one of the participants in the dispute over whether Armenia is in Europe or Asia. Caligvla has listed a number of reference sources classifying Armenia as an Asian country. He claims that the only sources quoted by your side of the dispute are 1.) an obsecure Canadian website that places Armenia in Europe, and a BBC article that mistakenly places Armenia in Europe. Kober, I'm not saying you're right or wrong about the title. However, if someone suggest a merge and puts a tag on a page, one should not revert it on sight. If the discussion on the talk page shows indeed a consensus to not merge the page and instead leave it where it is, that's fine. For you information, I also support independence of Transnistria and Nagorno-Karabkh as well. Regarding the userboxes: when you say that you oppose "aggressive separatism in Abkhazia and South Ossetia", do you not imply their leaders, primarily Kokoity and Bagapsh? And if so, what difference is there from my userbox? I could easily change mine to something like "This user opposes 'Georgia's aggressive attempts to subjugate Abkhazia and South Ossetia", so it's totally analogous to yours. However, I think that would be offensive. I don't attribute the properties of one politician to the whole country. As a matter of fact, I support the right for self-determination for every nation. And the Chechens had their referendum fairly recently in which they voted overwhelmingly in support of staying within the federation. I edit these particular articles because there was an unbalanced abundance of pro-Saakashvili contributors. Speaking of civility. Kober, I share your position about the inlammatory content in the user space. You find the boxes that call for Georgia's partitioning offensive and inflammatory. You are correct, IMO. Would you please consider taking it also to this page whose owner has userboxes calling for partitioning of Russia, China and change of the political regime in Belarus? LOL, Luis, don't worry about it. We will not subjugate Ossetia and Ossetians are our friends. The idea that Georgia is trying to provoke a conflict is a myth and is based on a false assumption. For example, my grandmother is from Kazbegi and she can speak pretty good Ossetian and unfortunately for the Toronto-based POV pushers they have nothing to say. The forces of moderation will be successful in the region and Ossetia will be a part of Georgia, like it has always been. SosoMK 04:14, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

Your view to Moukhraneli - Romanov marriages' equalness

Are you familiar with the evidence in this case? Could you check a situation [4] - where, in my opinion, certain persons are pushing towards POV that Georgian princes were not noble enough to marry Russians otherwise than as morganatic consorts. The most appalling thing is that one of them actually erased a reference to Genealogisches Handbuch des Adels, Fürstliche Häuser; in order to have an article where only the other reference (which happens to support that editor's POV) is displayed. They seem to defend uncited conclusions, such that they want to believe in. Contemporary evidence of course is conflicting, as are later treatises (because there exists precisely two contrary POVs). I see that I have been misrepresented to you. I do not believe that the Mukhraneli were dynastically unequal to the Romanovs, during or after the Russian Empire. I do believe that they were deemed legally unequal by Nicholas II in 1911. But that decision was reversed by Vladimir Kirilovich in 1948. Nicholas II made one decision, and Vladmir, in the claimed capacity as emperor de jure, made another -- and cited very specific research as the basis for that reversal. There are simply no sources that considered the 1911 marriage equal, and there is enormous evidence that it was not considered equal. This issue has been extensively discussed, but after the Frederiks Memo was published in the West in the late 1990s (it was an intra-dynastic communication, not published during the Empire), no serious historian any longer disputes that the Bagration-Mukhranskys held the same status as Rurikid and Gedyminian princes in pre-1918 Russia. Whether they should have been considereed as dynastically higher is a different discussion (I believe that they were unfairly treated by Russia in defiance of the Treaty of Georgievsk), but Wikipedia should reflect how the family was viewed then -- and now. Yes, actually, I have been aware of Sargis' article, among others. In my opinion, a bit too nationalistic, and pride-full, but not altogether too much. Mostly, good points. Of course, he paints his "favorite" dynasty more ancient than anything else, and uses overflowing words when speaking of things valuable in Georgia. And probably he attempts to elevate the rather ordinary fief of he Moukhraneli to ridiculous dimensions, including presentation of it as independent state. Bur when one knows to suspect the adjectives and usually halve them, the essay otherwise gives plenty of details useful to study.

Do you agree with the opinions presented by Sargis?

Moukhraneli

While I am at it, could you tell me how precise are certain allegations in the following (these are some points I have wanted to ask someone who knows Georgian local history and geography, too): "The Bagrations of Moukhrani, the branch of the dynasty from which Prince George Bagration and the Grand Duchess Maria descend, were in fact doubly royal. First they were a younger branch of the Georgian royal house. (They did not become the senior line until the twentieth century, when elder lines died out.) Second, they were also sovereigns of the Georgian principality of Moukhrani in their own right until 1801."

my question 1: Are Bagrations of Moukhrany well known for having been a branch of the Georgian royal house? or, is it less-well known? Did Georgian kings of 18th century regard them as possible heirs of king's kingdom and power, or were they just some of numerous relatives of the king that everyone has in some corners? or, were they possibly regarded rather regular nobles, such as Chavchavadze, Djordzjadze, Dadiani?

my question 2: Was their land of Moukhrany a really independent (i.e, sovereign) rulership, or were they under king's commands in some way? And, how big was the land of Moukhrany they held: was it the size of today Luxembourg, or of today Monaco, or size of a bunch of farms that together form a typical manor? of size of a village with its farmlands? Had the land of Moukhrany several towns under its power? or one town? or possibly no town? (I believe they at least had a namesake castle)

History of Georgia

Dear Kober, the article History of Georgia (country) needs some serious modifications and additional historic data (especially medieval Georgia and her Golden age). With the help of Dr Andersen, I added some vital information to expend the section of Georgian antiquity. However, the article should be further expanded in the sections of Medieval History (Georgia's golden age) and Russian Annexation. When you find time, please add additional info in the article. Caucasian peoples

Hey Kober, I was wondering if you could help me with something. Check out my conversation with Tombseye:

Basically, one would assume that "Caucasian peoples" means "people that speak Caucasian languages" (excluding the Altaic, and Indo-European languages). However, in addition to listing "Peoples speaking Caucasian languages", the article also featured "Peoples speaking Altaic languages", and "Peoples speaking Indo-European languages". That's why I decided to move the page. Problem is, shouldn't there be an article about the people that speak the Caucasian languages? (like the Lezgins, Dargins, etc.) There's only a page called Languages of the Caucasus, which of lists the non-Caucasian languages as well. An additional problem is that the Peoples of the Caucasus article is mostly unreferenced, so I'm not sure what the most common meaning of Caucasian peoples really is. Perhaps you could help? Yikes, I don't know how to fix this problem exactly re:Caucasian peoples. It looks like we might have to either make separate articles, one that keeps the Peoples of the Caucasus and one for Caucasian peoples OR just eliminate the part that includes the Armenians and Azeris OR leave it as is and just expand Caucasian languages to include the people. Encyclopedia Britannica denotes Caucasian peoples as referring to ALL the people of the Caucasus for example including Armenians, Azeris, and Ossetians. What do you think? I guess given the precedent we've set with Iranian peoples, Germanic, Slavic etc. the way to go would be Caucasian peoples. Let me know what you think and we'll go from there. Britannica doesn't really make it clear if it's talking about all peoples of the Caucasus, or just the people speaking the Caucasian languages (it just says they live there, which applies to both). Editing pages on Georgia

Hi Kober,

I am trying to find what I can of scholarly sources for these pages. Let me know what you find out. The DAI page at here mentions some of the folks at University Tbilisi, Lewan Tshabashvili, Eliso Bagaturia, Irma Berzenishvili, Joni Abuladze and Dimitri Jovania. They might be of some help. I have a friend in Tblisi who is an archeology student and has worked at the Dmanisi site. I will try to dig up references from him.

I live on the Kapiti Coast in New Zealand. I get to Georgia every few years. I am a friend of Archbishop (Meope?) Nikoloz and the American Monk, Mama Theodore Niklasson, David Odzelashvili (works for the American Embassy) and Professor Nana Danelia (University of Tblisi), all who live in Tblisi.

I would like to get the Georgian collection on Wikipedia up to Featured Article status. A note: The writing style non-native speakers of Engish and those native speakers with insufficient exposure to academic writing often gets judged by USA or British academic standards on Wikipedia. Expressions that seem informal and very generalised get gigged for being inappropriate in register and style. It is a cultural thing and we can sort out the language. I have written in academic social science publications for some time and have a fair grasp of the requirements.

I am doing research for articles on education in Georgia, wine, religion and politics. These may also be good points of departure for related articles.

3. We have Egrisi or Lazica and we have Lazistan. In the Turkish wiki thiere is a Lazika (ლაზიკა) and Egrisi and Lazistan, they make a difference between "Egrisi" and "Lazica".
