Despite manufacturers being introduced in 2015–16, the FIA opened the process for new manufacturers in December 2015[29]. It was announced in March that Nissan and BMW were interested in joining the sport[30]
The Aguri team will attempt to get a customer power train for season three after previously running with McLaren's powertrain from season one[33]. They eventually confirmed they would be supplied by Renault, with the team eventually taken over by China Media Capital[20][18][34]. The team was later renamed Techeetah[22].
Mike Conway, who split time between Venturi and Toyota Gazoo Racing in the World Endurance Championship in 2015-16, chose to focus strictly on the latter and elected not to return to Formula E.
In May 2015, it was announced that an ePrix had been confirmed to take place in Montreal[41]
In October 2015, it was announced that Hong Kong would also have an ePrix[41]. Hong Kong was provisionally on the calendar for the 2014–15 season, but was later dropped.
In February 2016, it was announced that a possible race in New York could happen at the end of season three[42]. This was later confirmed in May[41].
It was also announced later in February that an agreement had been made to host an eprix in Brussels, signing a five year deal[41].
In March, Mahindra Racing asked fans to come up with a design for a street race around the streets of Delhi, after receiving support from the Indian government to host a race[43]. However, no race in Delhi was on the draft calendar released later in May[41].
A draft calendar released in May also confirmed the return of the Monaco ePrix (returning after a year's absence), as well as new races in Singapore and Marrakesh, and the withdrawal of ePrixs in London and Punta del Este[41].
The FIA approved the calendar in July, but with some changes from the draft calendar. Apart from some adjustments to the dates, there was also the removal of races in Singapore and in Long Beach, with these the identity of the two replacements for these rounds unknown at the time[38].
