Unspecified source/license for File:ALEABadge-Trooper.png

edit

Thanks for uploading File:ALEABadge-Trooper.png. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by MifterBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. --MifterBot (TalkContribsOwner) 01:45, 31 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hello 2013AtlantaBraves, and welcome to Wikipedia. All or some of your addition(s) to Dothan, Alabama have been removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. However, there are steps that must be taken to verify that license before you do. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Doug Weller talk 14:10, 11 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom 2017 election voter message

edit

Hello, 2013AtlantaBraves. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2017 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 3 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. You can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing →   Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary. Thanks! Drmies (talk) 03:02, 7 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Alabama's total area

edit

Regarding this edit: the figures you're trying to introduce are for the land area only, not the total area, which also includes the water area. The figures stated in the article are correct (per page 41 of the official census document). M.Bitton (talk) 00:25, 9 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Ways to improve List of New York Police Department officers killed in the line of duty

edit

Hi, I'm Graeme Bartlett. 2013AtlantaBraves, thanks for creating List of New York Police Department officers killed in the line of duty!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. Where di the information come from? There is a [8] suggesting copying from somewhere else with a reference. But what was that? I don't think the list should include people that dies from diseases or heart attacks, as that is not "killed". Otherwise change the title to say "dying"

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for violating copyright policy by copying text or images into Wikipedia from another source without evidence of permission. You have been previously warned that this is against policy, but have persisted. Please take this opportunity to ensure that you understand our copyright policy and our policies regarding how to use non-free content.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  Doug Weller talk 12:33, 8 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

I only deleted the [8] due to my not knowing if the credited source was correct or not so I changed it. I'm not trying to sound whiny or sappy, but please unblock me. I'm not very knowledgeable with all you have to do just to use Wikipedia, but everything I've done is me trying to make it better. I'm not purposefully trying to hurt any articles. I've even been going through towns and cities in my homestate of Alabama and updating who the Mayor is. I promise I'm attempting to do everything for the better. Thank you. 2013AtlantaBraves (talk) 22:35, 21 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

I'm sorry, but I cannot unblock you at this time. You have not addressed the reason for your block. In order to lift the block, we need to be certain that you understand how copyright works on Wikipedia. To allow the reviewing administrator to assess your understanding, please address the following questions in your next unblock appeal:

  • What is copyright?
  • How is Wikipedia licenced?
  • Why is copyrighted content not allowed on Wikipedia?
  • Under what circumstances can we use copyrighted content?
  • How do you intend to avoid violating the copyright policy in the future?

Your answers will enable us to establish whether or not you should be unblocked. -- Dlohcierekim (talk) 23:13, 21 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Request reason:

Okay then, thank you for nicely telling me what needs to be done and explaining it well. I really appreciate it from you. I'll now answer the questions. Copyright is the exclusive legal right, given to an originator or an assignee to print, publish, perform, film, or record literary, artistic, or musical material, and to authorize others to do the same. I'm going to be honest, I can't rightly tell you how Wikipedia is licensed and I apologize for that. However, I won't edit or do any copyright infringement. Copyrighted content is not allowed on Wikipedia because it's wrong to use especially without permission and can result in a block or ban. You can use copyrighted content with and if the author and yourself uses the correct license. If I need doubt, don't use it. I intend to stop copyrighted content from being shared by being more aware. If I'm in doubt, I won't use it. I hope y'all understand and I hope to get back to editing and helping. Thank you! 2013AtlantaBraves (talk) 16:05, 22 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

Not all of your answers are exactly correct and one is missing(the answer to which can be found on this very page or almost any page on Wikipedia). As I am not yet assured that you understand WP:COPY and WP:COPYVIO, I am declining this request. 331dot (talk) 16:19, 22 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

I'll answer it now, I think I got it, haha. Licensing is how Wikipedia lets you edit and how other sites lets content be borrowed to use on Wikipedia. I hope this will be correct, thank you again! 2013AtlantaBraves (talk) 16:55, 22 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
