Help me!

edit

Please help me with... What is the wayback machine used for? Also, when citing an article that is archived by the wayback machine, if the archive URL doesn't work how do i fix it? If someone could help fix the Emmanuel Akot archived URL or tell me how to fix it. 21pegedi89 (talk) 03:14, 18 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Wayback is for finding archived versions of specific pages. This can either be to find the source of a now-vanished URL (say if a website closes down) or to show the content of a page at a specific point in time (say if a page gets regularly updated/changed). More information about Wayback is at Help:Using the Wayback Machine.
I'm not quite sure what you mean by "if the archive URL doesn't work", mainly because I don't see anything wrong at the Akot page, so I'll give some general information. In almost every "cite X" template there is a |archive-url= parameter, to which you give the archive URL from Wayback. Other parameters are |archive-date=, the date the archive was taken, and |url-status=, which is generally set to either "live" or "dead". If you want more help, change the {{help me-helped}} back into a {{help me}}, stop by the Teahouse, or Wikipedia's live help channel, or the help desk to ask someone for assistance. Primefac (talk) 08:22, 18 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
