I provided a brief summary of the problem in the edit summary, which should be visible just below my name. The page රණබිම රාජකීය විද්‍යාලය has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done under section A2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appeared to be a foreign language article that had essentially the same content as si:රණබිම රාජකීය විද්‍යාලය, an article on another Wikimedia Foundation project. Please see Wikipedia:Translation to learn about requests for, and coordination of, translations from foreign-language Wikipedias into English.

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Lt Gen Shavendra Silva.jpeg

edit

A tag has been placed on File:Lt Gen Shavendra Silva.jpeg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the file appears to be a blatant copyright infringement of https://www.lankanewsweb.net/67-general-news/54155-Army-Commander-Lieutenant-General-Shavendra-Silva-appointed-as-new-Chief-of-Defence-Staff-. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Corrected title for "Special Airborne Force".

edit

Hey there.

Corrected the title for "Special Airborne Force". The initial title is incorrect (Air and Borne) shouldn't be separate and a lot of Sri Lankan articles I read in English use that spelling. Ominae (talk) 12:21, 18 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University Hospital moved to draftspace

edit

An article you recently created, General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University Hospital, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.   Hello 49lk, and welcome to Wikipedia. Your additions to Draft:General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University Hospital have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are PD or compatibly licensed) it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, the help desk or the Teahouse before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Moneytrees🏝️Talk🌴Help out at CCI! 15:30, 30 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Naming issue

edit

Dear friend, thank you very much for your message, and for your very helpfull contributions to the "List of CBRN warfare forces" article. Much appreciated! About the Radiology-Radiological issue, as I've already wrote in my edit comment AFAIK විකිරණ means "Radiation", while "Radiological" is විකිරණශීලී. That said, I'm not a cingalese speaker, so I can well be wrong: I just checked on a dictionary! So if you can please provide me a reference showing that විකිරණ actually means "Radiological" and not radiology, well, no problem at all, of course. But if the exact translation of විකිරණ is "Radiology" instead, then the translation must be as litteral as possible, even if it sound a bit awkward in english: if you look at the other entries, you will find several oter litteral translation that do not "look" quite right in english, but that they are perfectly right nevertheless. I will be wait for a while, until you can provide me a reference supporting the "radiological" translation: again, if you can provide that, it's perfectly OK for me, but if the litteral translation in "radiology" instead, than I will have to correct it back. Thanks a lot for your assistance, and please accept my warmest and most friendly regards. All the best. --Arturolorioli (talk) 17:29, 2 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Help needed

edit

Dear friend, I would need a bit of help from you. Could you please check if all the Sri Lankan commando regiments are trully *fully* parachute qualified? And, in case they are, could you please provide some documented references about that? I mean, are the *whole* regiments entirely formed by parachute qualified soldiers? Of only part of the personnel undergo the paratrooper training? Thanks in advance for your kind assistance. All the best --Arturolorioli (talk) 17:38, 2 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Commando regiment is one of the top secret units alongside the Sri Lanka Army Special Forces Regiment. They only release details about Passing out Parades and ceremonies which civilians also participated. Commando regiment is the only regiment with parachute training wing in the regimental training school.[url=https://alt.army.lk/commando/regiment-training-school%7Caccess-date=2020-08-03%7Cwebsite=alt.army.lk] So, they can have their parachute training in own regiment training school. There is no parachute training in Commando course, it means after entering the regiment they can qualify parachute course. You can find out the coursers conducted by training school; the official web site of the regiment. I could not find the references about the whole regiments fully parachute qualified. But a story goes that the regiment is consists of more than 99% parachute qualified soldiers. I believe that you could find out the answer from the above details. Thank you. Have a nice day !! 49lk (talk) 05:52, 3 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
Dear friend, thanks, I did know about the Parachute Wing of the Commando Training School, that's why I did include the Commando regiments in the list. But as the Sri Lanka Air Force have just 6 medium transport aircraft (and another 9 light ones) it looks a bit difficult that they can maintain full jump qualification to no a force of no less than 6 battalions (not including the smaller Navy and Air Force partrooper units!). Even if the battalions should be small ones, and even with the barest minimum of jumps to keep a real military qualification, then every single transport aircraft of the SLAF would have to fly 30 to 40 paratrooper training mission each year ... possible, but highly unlikely, even more so considering that two of the battalions are Special Forces, that would undergo a *much* more frequent jump activity. So either the regiments/battalions are *very* small (like reinforced companies, as it happens in several countries) or the Commandos unit are not fully jumps capable and have just some specialized para subunit, like recon companies etc (again, as it happens in several countries), or they undergo just a "basic" para training and no real operational training (again, as it happens in several counties, usually three jumps and then maybe one or two jumps each year, more for morale value than for operational reasons). Or maybe a combination of all that. But alas, that's all educated guessing and "Personal Research", both not allowed on Wikipedia, so I was looking for some documented reference and, as you confirm, details of the SL Commandos are quite difficult to find, so no way to know for sure if the entry is correct and if anybody will challange the entry I'm afraid that if will be deleted ... let's hope not. In case you could maneage to find any documented evidence of a full-para status, please let me know, it will be *very* usefull!! All the best, and thanks for your assistance. --Arturolorioli (talk) 08:33, 5 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
      • P.S. On wikipedia it is usual to reply to a personal message on the Talk Page of the other user, or, if you reply on your own Talk Page, to add a "Ping" (see [1]) to automatically notify the other user that you answered to his message. Both systems works fine. No harm done, of course I'm not complaing in any way, I'm just telling you the correct procedure in case you are not aware of it, in the most friendly way! Linking to drafts

edit

Please do not introduce links in actual articles to draft articles, as you did to General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University. Since a draft is not yet ready for the main article space, it is not in shape for ordinary readers, and links from articles should not go to a draft. Such links are contrary to the Manual of Style. An edit has converted these links, into links to the not-currently-existing page (redlinks) where the draft will be placed if it is eventually accepted. Thus the links will automatically become valid links aimed at the correct target when and if the draft is accepted. Thank you. Non-free rationale for File:Gen Shanatha Kottegoda (left) and FM Sarath Fonseka (right) in ceremonial uniform.jpeg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Gen Shanatha Kottegoda (left) and FM Sarath Fonseka (right) in ceremonial uniform.jpeg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Hello 49lk. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic on Sri Lanka Armed Forces and General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. "Biting" newcomers

edit

I noticed that a message you recently left to a newcomer may have been unduly harsh. Please remember not to bite the newcomers. If you see others making a common mistake, consider politely pointing out what they did wrong and showing them how to correct it. It takes more time, but it helps us retain new editors. Thank you.Chathu69 (talk) 07:27, 19 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Chathu69: Are you Sri Lankan? I think you ought to help the articles of our country without eliminating them. It's not called editing it is vandalism. If there is no enough citation, please try to add some sources without removing the half of an article. There are a lot of issues in Sri Lanka related articles and you make more. Please be gracious enough to help articles about Sri Lanka without doing vandalism. Remember, I don't such financial issues to edit Wikipedia articles and make money. So be polite when editing another one's talk page. Thank you. 49lk (talk) 02:36, 20 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

I feel that I am being bullied on the basis of nationality

edit

Hello, I'm Chathu69. I noticed that you made a comment in my talk page that didn't seem very civil, so it may have been removed. Wikipedia is built on collaboration, so it's one of our core principles to interact with one another in a polite and respectful manner. @Chathu69: haha... Then what about comments you made on my talk page? It also doesn't seem polite and respectful. First of all, you should learn how to respect someone before trying to edit an article. 49lk (talk) 02:33, 20 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Rasika Fernando

edit

The article Rasika Fernando has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Poor citation and Questionable notability.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Wikipedia is not for advertising or promotion

edit

Please stop your disruptive editing as you did in most of the article related to the Sri Lanka Armed Forces and General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University. If you continue to add promotional or advertising material to Wikipedia, you may be blocked from editing.

@Chathu69: I am interested in military field also I am a participant of WikiProject Military history. Editing only military related articles is not promoting Sri Lanka Armed Forces. First of all, If you found anything promotional or advertising thing about Sri Lanka Armed Forces I have done, let me be aware before trying to ban me. It is clear that you are trying to make a false accusation because you have not found such a thing
49lk (talk) 10:26, 21 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your response on this matter. If you come to the Talk:General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University page, we can go discuss it point by point.Chathu69 (talk) 11:44, 21 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Correction to previous election announcement

edit

Just a quick correction to the prior message about the 2022 MILHIST coordinator election! I (Hog Farm) didn't proofread the message well enough and left out a link to the election page itself in this message. The voting will occur here; sorry about the need for a second message and the inadvertent omission from the prior one. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 17:40, 15 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
