Thank you

Thank you very much for signing up for the July Backlog Elimination Drive! The copyedit backlog stretches back two and a half years, all the way back to the beginning of 2008! We're really going to need all the help we can to get it down to a manageable number. We've ambitiously set a goal of clearing all of 2008 from the backlog this month. In order to do that, we're going to need more participants. Is there anyone that you can invite or ask to participate with you? If so, we're offering an award to the person who brings in the most referrals. Just notify ɳorɑfʈ Talk! or Diannaa TALK of who your referrals are. Once again, thanks for your support! Herocore

I noticed you started an afd for Hero Core. You might want to include Iji with it, as both were made by the same person (who's article has already been deleted, apparently). -WarthogDemon 21:13, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

You may want to do that, but Hero Core has seen some improvement since you nominated it, and seems* to be headed for a Keep. decltype (talk) 21:27, 11 June 2010 (UTC) *Of course, my view of the consensus may be somewhat slanted.
Yes, I agree decltype. Seems I was wrong :(. I have no reason to believe Iji doesn't meet the guidelines for inclusion. I nominate only by a case-by-case basis. Airplaneman 01:31, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
I actually didn't even notice that it seems that one article seems to be here to stay. If I had, I wouldn't have brought this up. My bad. -WarthogDemon 01:44, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
That's OK - it's not final until it is final, anyway :) Airplaneman 02:11, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
Would "delete because I'm butthurt after looking like an idiot" be a valid argument? Nah I'm just kiddin. :P :) -WarthogDemon 02:24, 12 June 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for the warm welcome!

Hello Airplaneman, Thank you so much for the welcome message and the chocolate chip cookies! They're definitely one of my favourite kinds. I really appreciate you offering to help in wikipedia. I'm pretty sure I'll need help at some point soon too :-)

If I knew how, I'd for sure send you a glass of cold milk or perhaps, post cookies, a glass of cold beer?

Anyways, I really appreciate the welcome, and I love that plane photo! Does this mean I should look for a picture for my profile? Yikes! More wikipedia stuff to learn. How bout that huh?

Bye for now.

Hello! Thanks for dropping by :). There are directions for how to give a cookie at Template:Cookie, for example. As for the plane photo, I think it's a unicode symbol - a fellow editor found it for me and I found it nice. That's why I have it in my signature as well as on my user page (our word for profile here). Read the userpage link for more info (you may also want to visit the userpage design center). User pages are not required, though, and editing articles is encouraged over designing personal pages. This is to minimize social networking, which is frowned upon (conversations related to Wikipedia, on the other hand, are encouraged). You can sign your username with the time of your edit by typing ~~~~. When saving, Wikipedia will convert it to your signature. It was my pleasure to welcome you - we can always do with more contributors ;). Happy editing, Airplaneman 01:28, 13 June 2010 (UTC)

User:AlexNewArtBot - New Article Bot

Hi, I have made a new feed for the New Article bot. The bot reads all the new articles for a day and puts suspected appleinc-related articles into User:AlexNewArtBot/appleincSearchResult, the articles are suppose to be manually put into the portal page and/or removed if irrelevant. Or whatever you want to do with them.

The list of rules are in User:AlexNewArtBot/appleinc, there is also the log on the User:AlexNewArtBot/appleincLog explaining the rules that sent an article to the search results (the log is cleared every day, so try to look into the history of the log). Please contact me if you are interested in the fine tuning of the rules

That is all. Any suggestions are welcome. mono

documentary evidence

monosock 01:09, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

Dear Mr Airplaneman,

Two or three days ago I sent you a lot of photos taken by me offering evidence and sources about Andreas Savvides. I also begged you warmly to write his biography, since I am not expert in writing biographies. We see so many biofraphies of persons in Wikipedia who in fact are not so notable. Why then not to write the biography of a person with so many talents?

I sent you the photos though "photosubmission@wikimedia.org" because I don't know any other way to send them. I got extremely tired in gathering all that evidence. Have they given them to you?

Meanwhile,I'd like to help by translating into English anything you want to (even medical vocabulary). Please don't hesitate to ask my help. Just send the document you want me to translate, to my e-mail address: "chrdemosthenous (at) cytanet (dot) com (dot) cy".I can translate from Greek into English anything regardless of the kind of contents.

Dear Airplaneman, where are you going to pass your holidays this summer? My plane has landed at your "talk page airport". Are you ready for a flight with it?

Your's sincerely, Christakis DemosthenousCHRISTAKIS DEMOSTHENOUS (talk) 19:38, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

Hello Mr. Demosthenous. I've tweaked the code on your email so spam bots don't pick it up. I think you sent the email to Wikipedia, not me, as indicated in your post (photosubmission@wikimedia.org is not my email address). You may directly upload the picture to Wikipedia if it is free (make sure it passess this policy. See WP:IMAGE for a guide and related pages. As long as you do that, it should be OK.
It pains me to say I tagged the biography you submitted on Andreas Savvides because, as the note says on your talk page, it did not have references, something required for biographies on Wikipedia as a buffer against false and potentially libelous material. I do not find pleasure in asking administrators to delete somebody's hard work (on the other hand, I relish the chance to annihilate vandalism!) Someone else then tagged the page as being a recreation of something deleted from a discussion, in this case, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/THE HISTORY OF THE CYPRUS OLYMPIC COMMITTEE. I think that Andreas Savvides was a major part of the article. See this as well. Now, on to how you may be able to create this article, once and for all!
I am very grateful for this encyclopedia that you and other users, especially new users, come and give their valuable time to enrich the knowledge of others. That being said, not everyone may have an article on the encyclopedia. They must be notable first. I think this guy is notable enough, so that is one passed. You need to make a claim of notability without making the article sound like an ad or a resume. Also, sources have to be reliable and verified. It'd be awesome if you can translate any Greek sources you have found that meet these criteria (I neither have the time nor the motivation to do research myself right now—I'm reviewing an article for good article status and am otherwise generally busy in real life). I'd be more than glad to help you write it: you or I can ask an administator to un-delete Andreas Haralambous Savvides to User talk:CHRISTAKIS DEMOSTHENOUS/Andreas Haralambous Savvides where it will be out of harm's way. Regards, Airplaneman 21:21, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
Dear Airplaneman,
Last night I landed at "Andreas Savvides" airport in the country of "Facebook". I saw some interesting profile, and also about 80 photos of him from his arthletic life. Please come to "Facebook", and look for "Andreas Savvides". Tell me if we can use some information from there.
Note: The word "air" comes from the Greek word αέρας (aeras)= wind. "air + plane" in Greek means "something which is moving in the air".
Yours sincerely,
CHRISTAKIS DEMOSTHENOUS (talk) 13:24, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Charls Andre/Andreas Savvides and User:EGLI ANDREOU/ANDREAS SAVVIDES - THE HERCULES OF CYPRUS might help shed some light on this... Christikis: if the information is not published in independent reliable sources then we cannot use it; also, there are guidelines for notability that help us determine whether an article should be created or not. WP:V, WP:RS and WP:IS explain sourcing, WP:N and WP:BIO explain notability (ignore my shorthand and click the links) --Jubileeclipman 13:49, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

Dear Airplaneman,

I have read your instructions, for which I thank you. I'll try now to rewrite the article "ANDREAS SAVVIDES", in such a way that it would sound like an article rather than a biography. I have also learnt how to make references to sourcces used. Since it is very difficult to mention tens of the existing sources in every word or sentence I write, I will mention only one, two or three. Also, because of the huge difficulties I meet, I will write only one, two or three paras every time, so that you can be able to review the written work carefully and make any suggestions. Thanks a lot for yopur help.

Yours sincerely, Christakis Demosthenous

Now, let's begin work. CHRISTAKIS DEMOSTHENOUS (talk) 15:06, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

Sounds good :). I'll check in once in a while and help; if you need my attention, just tell right here. Regards, Airplaneman 20:05, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

Dear Airplaneman, Of course I need your your attention, as well as your help. How can I swim in the Wikipedia ocean, without your attention and help? Which I appreciate too much. Last night I began the article in the sandbox, but I have lost it. So, I'll begin it again, slowly-slowly, in my talk page. Yours sincerelyCHRISTAKIS DEMOSTHENOUS (talk) 12:37, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

Yay, let's get started. First off, you should not sign article edits. I'll make some changes to User:CHRISTAKIS DEMOSTHENOUS/Sandbox. Please look at what I'm doing and the summaries I provide so you can learn more about how to write Wikipedia articles. And of course, ask away :). Airplaneman 04:21, 3 July 2010 (UTC)
I notice you are using many quotes from sources. This is not desirable in this free encyclopedia, as the sources are most likely copyrighted and therefore not free. What you need to do is compile information from the reliable sources you have provided and write in your own words. Another thing I highly recommend trying out is the "Cite" tab in your editing toolbar. It is easier than typing out a reference manually and has a standardized format. Airplaneman 04:29, 3 July 2010 (UTC)

Dear Airplaneman, Thanks to your help, I have finished the article. Now I'd like to upload 3 photos, two of which were published in Agon newspaper, and showing A. Savvides doing some strength feats. The third photo is from the magazine Figuretteand shows A. Savvides posing during the Mr Cyprus, 1969 contest. I have taken photos with my digital camera of these three photos. Now I'd like to know if the following procedure is correct: 1. I have located the two copyright owners of these photos (now pensionists), and I'm going to ask them to write and sign a "Declaration of consent for all enquiries". 2. I'll upload a file containing these three photos, as soon as I have the declaration of consent. 3. I'll scan the Declarations of consent, and include them in the uploaded file. What else is it necessary to do? Yours sincerely, CHRISTAKIS DEMOSTHENOUS (talk) 20:19, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

Dear Airplaneman, As I said above, I took photos with my digital camera of three photos published in a newspaper and a magazine. Now, I am going to ask the copyright owners of the published photos to sign a "Declaration of consent". However, I have some questions: (1) Who is the copyright owner of the photos produced with my camera? If I am the copyright owner of the recently taken photos, shall I have to sign and submit a "Declaration of consent" myself (in addition to the declarations that will be signed by the copyright owners of the published photos)? It was indeed very difficult to answer this question myself. (2) Can the copyright owners agree to choose only the "GNU Free Documentation License (unversional, with no invariant sections, front-cover texts or back-cover texts? Or do they have to choose also the "Creative Commons ..."? (3) Is there any disadvantage, if they choose the option "release that work into the public domain"? Thanks a lot. Yours sincerely, CHRISTAKIS DEMOSTHENOUS (talk) 14:46, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

I am not totally sure about images, as that is not my area of expertise. I do not think you may take pictures of pictures with your camera and claim them as yours. To obtain permission, I think you'll have to go through OTRS. I'm going to ask an administrator for confirmation and additional suggestions. Airplaneman 17:26, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
More: If you look at WP:NFC, you'll see that it is unacceptable to use copyrighted images in articles when a free alternative is possible to obtain. So I think the only way to go is to get official confirmation through OTRS to get a "ticket" to verify that you have permission for the photo. If at all possible, look for free images or take one of the person yourself :). Airplaneman 17:34, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

Christakis, in response to your three questions:

  1. If you took the photographs yourself with your own camera, you are the copyright holder.
  2. You may license it under any license that you wish. If you wish to only license it under the GNU Free Documentation License, simply add {{GFDL|migration=opt-out}} when you upload the image.
  3. If you choose to release your work into the public domain, people are not legally obligated to attribute you as the photographer, which they would be if you release it under the GFDL. NW (Talk) 22:19, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, NW. Christakis, please note that NW is assuming the pictures are taken by you and are not pictures of copyrighted works, in which case you would have to go through OTRS or find a free alternative. Airplaneman Review? 22:35, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

Dear Mr Airplaneman and Mr NW. Thanks a lot for your valuable help. Fortunately, I found 9 free old photos which I composed into one, and then I took a photo of it with my digital camera. Now, I'll unload the photo, and add

when I upload it. Yours sincerely. CHRISTAKIS DEMOSTHENOUS (talk) 11:38, 6 July 2010 (UTC)

That sounds fine, as long as the photos are free. If they are from magazines or newspapers, for instance, they probably aren't. If they are copyrighted, I'm afraid you'll have to go without a photo for the article unless free alternatives can be found. Airplaneman Review? 12:54, 6 July 2010 (UTC)
Ah, I am afraid I misunderstood your original post. Unfortunately, taking a picture of something that is itself copyrighted, such as a photograph more recent than 1923, does not make you the copyright holder. Airplaneman is correct here. NW (Talk) 14:00, 6 July 2010 (UTC)

Article about A. Savvides

Dear Airplaneman,

Not only I am drowned, I also have lost your plane from my radar.Help!!! The word "Edit" has disappeared from our talk page, so I open a new one. Now, I tried to upload a photo, that I intend to insert in the article I have written with your valuable help about "Andreas Savvides". I can't find the "upload file" in the side bar/toolbox. Where is it hidden? Thanks too much.CHRISTAKIS DEMOSTHENOUS (talk) 12:53, 6 July 2010 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) It is located under the "Toolbox" as the sixth one down. --Nascar1996 Contributions / Guestbook 14:05, 6 July 2010 (UTC)
It should be there - I see it. Try purging your cache and see. Go to the main page and it should be there. As for the "edit" button, I still see that as well. I'm putting this back in the old thread as a subsection. Please see my and NW's new posts there. Airplaneman Review? 16:26, 6 July 2010 (UTC)
Not that I don't trust you, but I need verification when you say the 9 old photos are "free". Is there something that explicitly tells you that? Otherwise, it is probably not. I'm only being really picky because it is Wikipedia policy (the encyclopedia may be sued by copyright holders if we upload their copyrighted material; besides, it's a free encyclopedia  ). The article is shaping up nicely, though. Airplaneman Review? 16:29, 6 July 2010 (UTC)

Dear Mr Airplaneman, The 9 photos were given to me by the son of the man who took them in 1964. It is a good idea to take permission from him, but it is difficult to come in contact with him. He is travelling abroad continuously. Therefore, I decided not to upload any photo (unless you want to see them privately, in which case I can send them only to you). Therefore, let the article stand alone without photos. Now, could you please publish this article in Wikipedia, since I don't know how to do this? Thanks a lot for your patient help. My thanks also to all persons of Wikipedia who helped by answering my questions. Yours sincerely, CHRISTAKIS DEMOSTHENOUS (talk) 11:51, 7 July 2010 (UTC) CHRISTAKIS DEMOSTHENOUS (talk) 11:58, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

That sounds great! I'm thinking we could take an interesting fact from this interesting article and submit it to WP:DYK. That way, it will be on the main page for about eight hours, and people will have a chance to view it. First, I must do some "wikifying" to the article, though, and when we are ready to nominate this article, I'll publish it. How does that sound? Airplaneman Review? 18:02, 8 July 2010 (UTC)
Where is the article? mono(how's my driving?) 18:21, 8 July 2010 (UTC)
It is at User:CHRISTAKIS DEMOSTHENOUS/Sandbox. Your help would be greatly appreciated  . Airplaneman Review? 19:12, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

Dear Airplaneman, Excellent suggestion. Next Monday I am going to write a new article under the title "Gymnastikos Syllogos Olympia", the most ancient athletic club in Cyprus. These days I'll go to the National Library to study sources from newspapers filed there, etc. I have noticed that there isn't any article about this club in Wikipedia. I have also noticed that there is no any article in Wikipedia about Karolina Pelendridou, a para-olympic medallist. So, my third article will be about her. Meanwwhile, the flight with you was much more than excellent. Thanks a lot. Yours sincerely. CHRISTAKIS DEMOSTHENOUS (talk) 19:40, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

Sounds good. Just make sure they pass the notability guidelines. As always, it will be a good idea to start the articles in user subpages of yours so you can have time to work on them before patrollers decide its fate :). About A. Savvides: I'm not sure I understand the referencing system you're using. For example, reference one begins with "(a) See 1(a) above, (b) See 1(b) above, (c)". If possible, I'd like to standardize these references using the {{Cite}} template for maintenance and formatting reasons. May you please explain? Thanks, Airplaneman Review? 19:51, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

Dear Airplaneman, In Note #2, for example, I write (a) See 1(a) above, (b) See 1(b) above, etc. By doing this I mean See Note # 1(a), ie Cyprus Mail, March 12, 1995, Michele Kambas, "HERCULES IN UNIFORM", Nicosia, and See Note #1(b), ie Phileleftheros, March 11, 1995, Maria Georgiou,.... etc. I used this method in order to avoid repeating the same source(s) again, and thus economize space. I didn't know any other simpler way to refer back to the same source. Thanks, CHRISTAKIS DEMOSTHENOUS (talk) 09:29, 9 July 2010 (UTC)

I see. To do so, you can name references. Do so by replacing the <ref>reference</ref> tag with <ref name="name of ref">reference</ref> (always in quotes). After naming the reference, you can avoid typing it all out again by simply typing out the name of the reference where you would like to use it again: <ref name="name of ref" />. Note that the reference names are in quotation marks. Here is an example:

Airplaneman is a Wikipedia editor.<ref name="book1">reference A contents</ref><ref name="book 2">reference B contents</ref> He is a male.<ref name="book 2" /> Airplaneman likes planes.<ref name="book 1" />

In practice, it will look like this:

Airplaneman is a Wikipedia editor.[1][2] He is a male.[2] Airplaneman likes planes.[1]

References
  1. ^ a b reference A contents
  2. ^ a b reference B contents
I hope this helps. Airplaneman Review? 15:39, 9 July 2010 (UTC)

Dear Airplaneman. I'm going to try your suggestions and make the necessary corrections. Thanks a lot. By the way, what's that "Review" in gold/yellow near your name? I pressed it and came to a new page. Can I write on this new page my opinion about you or is it prohibited? Yours sincerely. CHRISTAKIS DEMOSTHENOUS (talk) 17:22, 9 July 2010 (UTC)

OK; sounds good! As for the review, yes, anyone can comment :). Airplaneman Review? 21:48, 9 July 2010 (UTC)

Dear Airplaneman, I have noticed that you did an excellent job with the article. I have tried to correct the method of references, as you suggested, but I have found some difficulty. I pressed the "Edit" sign, to begin work, but I noticed that the four introductory lines before it, which have two references, are not included in the edit page. The correction should begin from the first two references. Suggestions, please. Thanks. CHRISTAKIS DEMOSTHENOUS (talk) 09:36, 10 July 2010 (UTC)

That is great! I will try and make some changes before the week is over. Then I'll ask another user more familiar with DYK and see if they think the article is suitable enough to be displayed on the main page. Airplaneman Review? 03:26, 14 July 2010 (UTC)

Dear Airplaneman, Just for curiosity. What are you doing now? Are you on holiday? Have you reviewed my article? After about ten days I will be able to announce you some big news. I learnt from first-hand (from organizers) that about the end of this month or at the beginning of next month(day has not yet be fixed) Andreas Savvides will be awarded, a big medal and diploma for his contribution to athletics. i'll go to the ceremony with my camera. I promise to send you good photos. Yours sincerely.CHRISTAKIS DEMOSTHENOUS (talk) 18:21, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

Yes, I have reviewed it and made some formatting changes. I will make more changes when I have a big block of time (I'm busy on Tuesdays and Wednesdays). Sorry for the delay. Additionally, I will ask someone more familiar with the DYK process for some tips to help get this article ready for a DYK submission. I guess we could wait until you get a picture of him at the ceremony? One last thing: it would be great if you could find out his birthday. Thanks for your hard work! Airplaneman 19:32, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
OK, I have asked somebody. I'll go ahead and add an infobox to the draft now. On a side note, we should begin a new thread after we publish this article since this is very long. Airplaneman 04:45, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
I've added the basic fields from template:infobox person. Feel free to copy over any others you want to add. Airplaneman 04:57, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Dear Airplaneman, I much appreciate the hard work you are doing. As for the date of birth of A. Savvides, it is written in all his books together with his place of birth. He was born on November 9, 1942 in Pano Platres, a mountainous summer resort village. Thanks a lot. Yours sincerely. CHRISTAKIS DEMOSTHENOUS (talk) 19:17, 21 July 2010 (UTC) Dear Airplaneman, the ceremony will take place tomorrow Friday at 11 o'clock a.m at the Olympic House in Nicosia. The medal and diploma to A. Savvides will be awarded by the President of the Cyprus Olympic Committee. Until then, have a nice day. Yours sincerely. CHRISTAKIS DEMOSTHENOUS (talk) 14:35, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

Dear Airplaneman, today, July 23, I went to the ceremony and took some photos of the old man. The G. Secretary of the Cyprus Olympic Committee, General Haralambos Lottas awarded a commemorative honorary gold medal (diam: 8cm, thickness 6 ml) to Andreas Savvides, together with a diploma, on behalf of the Executive Council of the Cyprus Olympic Committee, for his "disinterested contribution to athletics and to the Olympic Movement". After the ceremony, I asked A. Savvides to give me some photos of him. He gave me some, telling me that I could publish them freely. I don't know exactly how to send them, but I will try anyway. Yours sincerely. CHRISTAKIS DEMOSTHENOUS (talk) 13:46, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

WP:TPSWell, did you take pictures of him or did he give you some pictures of him taken beforehand? By sending them do you mean uploading them? For instructions of uploading photos please read Wikipedia:Uploading images first. Besides that, great job on the article! Derild4921 14:01, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
That's great! If he gave you pictures, then you can scan them or take photos of them and upload the files as I explained on your talk page (and as Derild said above :D). If you used your camera, you can put them on your computer and upload them that way. How does that sound? Thanks so much for taking the time to get pictures!! Airplaneman 15:48, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Dear Airplaneman, I got exhausted. Iwas trying unsuccessfully for more than six hours to upload 3-4 photos. I was much disappointed. As I was going to abandon my efforts, I suddenly saw that one of my photos (3-in-one)was uploaded (the one with the medal and the diploma). You can find it on my page. Since I am very tired, I'll upload the others tomorrow. It's almost midnight here now. Thanks a lot for your extremely valuable help. Thanks also to Mr Derild for his nice comments. But Mr. Derild note that without the assistance of Mr Airplaneman,I could do nothing. CHRISTAKIS DEMOSTHENOUS (talk) 20:41, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Very Urgent. Dear Airplaneman. I have sent you an e-mail from my page. The instructions say "plain text" only. So I couldn't attach any photos. How can I upload the photos to your e-mail? It would be easy for me to send them directly to your e-mail from my e-mail. To which e-mail address should I send them? Help!!!! Thanks a lot. Yours sincerely. CHRISTAKIS DEMOSTHENOUS 13:43, 24 July 2010 (UTC)

Dear Airplaneman, I have added a short paragraph in the article about A. Savvides, mentioning his last awards on July 23, 2010. Now the plane (= article) is entirely in your hands. You can enrich it with any photo you like. Thanks a lot. Yours sincerely. OK, great! I'm a bit busy and will be for another week or so, but I'll try to make some tweaks. First on my list are a reference tweaks and to ask for someone else's opinion on the article. I think it is time to start a new thread so I can archive this page. Airplaneman 01:55, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

mission executed

Dear Airplaneman, Please ignore my previous question. I found that there is another "edit" button, higher up. So I pressed it, and began work according to your suggestions. Very tiring job, but I have enjoyed it. Now the article is ready, but please look at it once more before you publish it. Thanks a lot. CHRISTAKIS DEMOSTHENOUS (talk) 08:54, 13 July 2010 (UTC)

WP Apple in the Signpost

WikiProject Report would like to focus on WikiProject Apple Inc. for a Signpost article to be published in July. This is an excellent opportunity to draw attention to your efforts and attract new members to the project. Would you be willing to participate in an interview? If so, here are the questions for the interview. Feel free to skip any questions that you don't feel comfortable answering. Also, if you know anyone else who would like to participate in the interview, please share this with them. Have a great day. -Mabeenot (talk) 02:39, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

Mac FAR

One of the FAR people posted on my talk page wondering what's up with the delist nom. I posted back and said we'll get our act together in the next few days. Which means {{cite mac}}. Is there anything you want to add to the template? If not, we need to go ahead and use it. (We can copy over a section into a sandbox and test it there first.) It's much easier to save an article in FAR than to promote it in FAC. So are you on board? </airplane pun> HereToHelp (talk to me) 04:30, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

I don't think anything needs to be added; I've already implemented it in MacBook Air, anyways. Am I ready for takeoff? Yes! Up we go! Airplaneman 04:34, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
...Well that worked. There's a lot to go through, and it really isn't fair to keep the FARC people waiting this long. I think we should let it be delisted; because it's not getting worked on. HereToHelp (talk to me) 01:43, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
Hmm… yes. I am guilty myself of not doing much the past week. Airplaneman 01:59, 30 June 2010 (UTC)

Thanks

Thank you very much for your great assistance on that Wikiquette. I have to rigorously use discipline in keeping Wikipedia at arms length or I actually fret for 20 to 40 minutes as I try to fall asleep. Given my real-life responsibilities, fretting over battles on the Internet is A) easy to find oneself doing, and B) that is an indicator that something isn’t *right*. Getting “down in the trenches” with someone like OnePt618 just isn’t for me.

First off, he was 180° incorrect when he wrote “Your preference for HTML headers is actually frowned upon; according to H:HTML”. In fact, H:HTML actually says “however there are some situations in which the HTML alternative is useful” and it lists <h1> - <h6> as examples of permissible HTML markup that can be used.

Then he accused me of WP:OWNERSHIP, and ignored that I wrote that I normally used regular wiki-style header markup by writing “your preference for using HTML”, and accused me of trying to prevent others from editing articles, and totally ignored my reasoning for why I was using the HTML in that unique circumstance, and went back and reverted my edit, and then concluded with one of those cop-like “Have a nice day” when they hand you a speeding ticket.

I simply don’t believe he is in any way a “newbie”, nor do I have a flying clue what he meant when he wrote that he had 20 edits under his belt. Rather than get myself wound further around the axle—and in deeper hot water in a venue where insincere wikipleasantries acting as a facade for mean spiritedness is very often a successful ploy (“Gosh, I suggest you fuck yourself, pretty please”)—I disengaged. My instinct was to give him more plain-speak, where I would say what was actually on my mind:

Better to let him vent and not feed the fire. I deeply appreciate your efforts to smooth things over. Greg L (talk) 21:30, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

I was glad I could help and am glad it was resolved peacefully. Best, Airplaneman 00:50, 25 June 2010 (UTC)

Given the special circumstances of your vacation, I'll give you until July 11. Airplaneman 23:08, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
Thank you, can you now tell me what else is wrong with the article, but add it to the GA page? --Nascar1996 Contribs / Tasks 23:17, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
I'm a bit busy at the moment, but I'll do it by Monday. Right now, I'd expand the lead with a bit more on what happened in the race. Also, add the key background info to the lead. Sorry for the delay, Airplaneman 23:20, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

Snazzy, lol :). Sorry about not making much progress at the GA review in the past week – I think I'm wiki-bonked. I'll put up a notice on my userpages accordingly. Nevertheless, I shall try to spend this weekend finishing up the review. Airplaneman 03:46, 2 July 2010 (UTC)
I'm not in any hurry for the GAN. Whenevery you have the time it will get done, otherwise it will stay the same.  --Nascar1996 Contributions / Guestbook 03:49, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

GA question

Hi Airplaneman! I see that you review articles for GA class so I guess you could help me out a bit. I'm trying to get Ranger's Apprentice cleaned up and maybe even to GA class. I found a source from the actual publishing company with a lot of reviews. Would these qualify as reliable source? Thanks! Derild4921 13:06, 25 June 2010 (UTC)

No, I wouldn't use them (yes, I looked at it  ). Since it is from the publisher, they will only put positive reviews on their flyer. You need to access reliable third party sources. Since many good reviews are subscription-based (not all, though) you may want to try sites like http://www.accessmylibrary.com/ or something to get reliable, unbiased reviews. Airplaneman 23:05, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
Well, that's what I thought too. Reviews are so hard to find! It took forever for me to find one review for The Glitch in Sleep until I found the accessmylibrary site. That makes reviews easier to find if they actually exists. Thanks anyways! Derild4921 00:02, 27 June 2010 (UTC)

Having difficulty creating article

Hi Airplane man. I am attempting to create a page on the church which I am a member and Minister-in-training. The article is on my user page but when I try to port it over to the main page, it is not posted and soon deleted by Wiki staff. Can you please let me know what I am doing wrong and what edits I need to make to complete the article. Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tha Ansa (talkcontribs) 16:37, 27 June 2010 (UTC)

(talk page stalker)(I hope you don't mind my answering this, The Ansa?) To have an article in Wikipedia, the subject of the article has to be notable and the facts presented have to be verifiable from reliable sources. There are specific guidelines to help decide how notable organisations (including Christian groups) are: Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies). Reading that page in conjunction with the others I have linked to would probably help you understand why your page is yet to be accepted in article space. Hope that helps --Jubileeclipman 17:12, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
Link for Airplaneman: User:Tha Ansa/The Qubtic Church of The Black Messiah. Interesting coincidence, BTW, given the article I recently worked on... --Jubileeclipman 17:15, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, Jubilee. Tha Ansa, what he said is pretty much what I would have said. I'm a bit busy at the moment, but I'll drop by the page sometime and try to improve it. What you need most right now are reliable sources to back up claims of notability. Airplaneman 18:51, 27 June 2010 (UTC)

A-Class opinion needed for British Airways page

I've been doing a lot of work on the British Airways page since June 5 2010 to get the page to A-Class from GA-Class but I need two uninvolved editors to say yes or no to the change. You seem to have done a lot in this field so I thought you would probably be best qualified to help me with this. You don't have to do it right away but a quick response would be helpful. The review page is here and I've done all the work outlined by SidewinderX (talk) even though it isn't all scored through. Thanks in advance, Plane Person (talk) 18:57, 30 June 2010 (UTC).

WikiCup 2010 June newsletter

We're half way through 2010, and the end of the WikiCup is in sight! Round 3 is over, and we're down to our final 16. Our pool winners were   Ian Rose (submissions) (A),   Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) (B, and the round's overall leader),   ThinkBlue (submissions) (C)   Casliber (submissions) and   TonyTheTiger (submissions) (D, joint), but, with the scores reset, everything is to play for in our last pooled round. The pools will be up before midnight tonight, and have been selected randomly by J Milburn. This will be the toughest round yet, and so, as ever, anything you worry may not receive the necessary attention before the end of the round (such as outstanding GA or FA nominations) is welcome at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews, and please remember to continue offering reviews yourself where possible. As always, the judges are available to contact via email, IRC or their talk pages, and general discussion about the Cup is welcome on the WikiCup talk page.

Though unaffiliated with the WikiCup, July sees the third Great Wikipedia Dramaout- a project with not dissimilar goals to the WikiCup. Everyone is welcome to take part and do their bit to contribute to the encyclopedia itself.

If you're interested in the scores for the last round of the Cup, please take a look at Wikipedia:WikiCup/History/2010/Round 3 and Wikipedia:WikiCup/History/2010/Full/Round 3. Our thanks go to   Stone (submissions) for compiling these. As was predicted, Group C ended up the "Group of Death", with 670 points required for second place, and, therefore, automatic promotion. This round will probably be even tougher- again, the top two from each of the two groups will make it through, while the twelve remaining participants will compete for four wildcard places- good luck everyone! If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. J Milburn, Fox and The ed17

Response to the below templates: they are redirects and do not qualify for A10. Maybe you meant 2011 Australian Open – Women's Singles, 2011 Australian Open – Women's Doubles, 2011 Australian Open – Boys' Doubles, and 2011 Australian Open – Girls' Singles? I moved them a while back to fix the dashes in their titles. If and when the articles are deleted, I think you can G6 the redirects. Nice to meet you, by the way. Hello, I notice that you recently created a new page, 2011 Australian Open - Women's Singles. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as yourself. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page - 2011 Australian Open – Women's Singles. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will to continue helping improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at 2011 Australian Open – Women's Singles - you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think that the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia.
