I haven't had to log in again since checking it that time, and I've even closed the browser several times. I expect that, if it doesn't work for you, it's something related to the cookie(s) on your machine getting deleted/expired/modified or something. I'm not sure exactly how the process works, and didn't get an answer when I asked. Just make sure whatever your security software is (including security settings in your browser), it is allowing cookies to be used by wikipedia in your browser. You might also try a different browser. I was deleting my cookies after every session, or something (I still have a list of cookies, so I guess it didn't delete them all?) I wrote most of it, and all I can say is that each time I read an article on the topic in Broadcasting & Cable online, I would add to the article. Note also that other editors have worked on the section extensively, making similar comments in the edit summaries as they broke apart some of the sentences and paragraphs. I contend, though, that the level of detail in the section is still too high, resulting in WP:TLDR for all but the most dedicated reader. A more effective style, if you really want to convey the minutia of who started what service when (for which I still dispute the necessity), might be a timeline representation of some sort. A table with date, carrier, call sign (if any), and description, would be far more accessible than the wall of text that is there now. —[AlanM1(talk)]— 02:00, 30 April 2013 (UTC) I was surprised when I saw complaints about the lack of paragraphs in the history, because it does look so much better with paragraphs. I don't know what I was thinking before. I should probably have a second look at whether some things can be moved. I have just implemented {{List TOC|first letter=G|last letter=M}} in its sandbox. The code looks crazy with all those #switch statements (since #expr does not support strings), but it seems to work. I just don’t know whether it does so efficiently. Do you think we should (re)merge both templates? We would remove my icon solution (with first/last/next/prev/base parameters) and keep your u1–4 and z1–4 parameters as well as my first/last letter parameters. — Christoph Päper 14:13, 28 June 2013 (UTC) While the letter range is easier to add for the editor, it doesn't handle the cases where some letters should not exist, or numbers/symbols in addition to letters. If I've got this wrong, or if I haven't but you're not interested in my request, don't worry; this is the only notice I'm sending out on the subject :). So, as you know (or should know - we sent out a centralnotice and several watchlist notices) we're planning to deploy the VisualEditor on Monday, 1 July, as the default editor. For those of us who prefer markup editing, fear not; we'll still be able to use the markup editor, which isn't going anywhere. What's important here, though, is that the VisualEditor features an interactive template inspector; you click an icon on a template and it shows you the parameters, the contents of those fields, and human-readable parameter names, along with descriptions of what each parameter does. Personally, I find this pretty awesome, and from Monday it's going to be heavily used, since, as said, the VisualEditor will become the default. The thing that generates the human-readable names and descriptions is a small JSON data structure, loaded through an extension called TemplateData. I'm reaching out to you in the hopes that you'd be willing and able to put some time into adding TemplateData to high-profile templates. It's pretty easy to understand (heck, if I can write it, anyone can) and you can find a guide here, along with a list of prominent templates, although I suspect we can all hazard a guess as to high-profile templates that would benefit from this. Hopefully you're willing to give it a try; the more TemplateData sections get added, the better the interface can be. If you run into any problems, drop a note on the Feedback page. I established it and you have unfortunately "broken" consistency with your edit. I am not going to make any edits which contravene your edits as I do not have any feeling of ownership over the piece nor feel strongly things _must_ be one way or another; rather, I am pointing out my opinion of your date formatting revisions. I did take pains to look back to the VERY first introduction of dates into citations ... which came quite late in the life of the article ... and compared that to what had transpired since, which was why I made a wholesale change to something consistent ... albeit not to everyone's liking (no edit seems to ever please everyone). I only did it while doing other edits on the article and probably should have talked to you first. Thanks for coming here without reverting first. WP:STRONGNAT, bullet 1: Articles on topics with strong ties to a particular English-speaking country should generally use the more common date format for that nation. Leonard is the quintessential American author. WP:DATERET, bullet 1: If an article has evolved using predominantly one format, the whole article [emphasis mine] should conform to it, unless there are reasons for changing it based on strong national ties to the topic or consensus on article talk. To me, whole article includes captions, citations, ELs, etc. Specifically because of this, there was significant discussion over whether, and an exception created, to allow accessdate and archivedate to differ, using YYYY-MM-DD, since that format had become prevalent for those fields. At this rev, there were 2 MDY-format cites, 1 DMY-format cite, and 15 other undated cites – technically more MDY than DMY. Even if you discount this to "no existing format", WP:STRONGNAT should apply in choosing a format. I choose DMY when writing an article about, or putting the first dates in, subjects with strong ties outside the U.S. As an experienced international business software developer, I've spent a great deal of time dealing with money, date, and other cultural differences, getting them "right" for the intended user/audience.
