L.A. event on November 11 CANCELED
Due to health issues affecting one of the organizers, the third Wik-Ed Women editing session (originally scheduled for Tuesday, November 11) has been canceled. We expect the series to pick up again sometime in December. Sorry for the inconvenience, and hope to see you in the near future! Refname rules
Hi. I'm here with a question about a sentence that you added to {{Refname rules}}:
- If a name is quoted when defined, it must also be quoted for additional invocations (i.e.
name="something"
is not the same asname=something
).
On first glance, this doesn't seem to be true. Gadget850 says that Sanitizer.php automatically adds quotes, so they should be the same, which matches my experience editing, namely that it doesn't matter if the definition or later invocations have optional quotes or not. But before changing anything, I was wondering if there is some rationale that we don't know about, in which case it should stay. Thanks. – Margin1522 (talk) 06:07, 26 November 2014 (UTC)
- @Margin1522: Here is an unquoted example[1] and a use without quotes[1] and a use with quotes[1].
Here is a quoted example[2] and a use without quotes[2] and a use with quotes[2].
And an attempt to redefine
"quoted"
asquoted
, which silently uses the existing definition of"quoted"
instead.[2]Looks like it works. I'm sure that it did not at some point, but this must have been fixed, so feel free to correct it. Thanks. —[AlanM1(talk)]— 20:59, 28 November 2014 (UTC)
- OK, thanks. I think you're probably right, that at one point this was true. But since it apparently works now we'll just go ahead and change it and keep an eye on it. – Margin1522 (talk) 01:34, 29 November 2014 (UTC)
Straw Poll
There is a straw poll that may interest you regarding the proper use of "Religion =" in infoboxes of atheists.
The straw poll is at Template talk:Infobox person#Straw poll.

Sorry for inadvertently deleting your vote
I apologize for mistakenly deleting your vote in the Infobox religion discussion. I was caught in an edit conflict, and I somehow erased your contribution. I did not mean to. Sorry. Plazak (talk) 14:26, 6 December 2014 (UTC)

Redondo Loves Wikipedia (2/14), Wik-Ed Women (2/17), and Unforgetting LA at the Getty (2/21)! | |
---|---|
Dear fellow Wikipedian,
The LA Wikipedia community has three events in mid-February -- please consider attending! First, we have a Valentine's Day edit-a-thon appropriately named Redondo Loves Wikipedia, which will take place at the Redondo Beach Public Library from 10am to 1pm on Saturday, February 14. Join library staff, the Redondo Beach Historical Society, and others to help improve Wikipedia's coverage of Redondo Beach! Second, we have a Wik-Ed Women editing session on Tuesday, February 17 from 6pm to 10pm at the Los Angeles Contemporary Archive downtown. This series of informal get-togethers is designed to encourage Los Angeles women-in-the-arts (though all are welcome!) to contribute their expertise to Wikipedia, specifically expanding content about women artists. Third, we have an Unforgetting LA event put on by East of Borneo in collaboration with the Getty Research Institute. Come help improve Wikipedia's coverage of LA design and architecture, and have an awesome free day at the museum -- parking will be validated for edit-a-thon participants! If you'd like to use particular books from GRI's great collection, be sure to email before 2/13 (instructions at event page). And be sure to check out our main meetup page, because we already have three SoCal events scheduled for early March! I hope to see you there! Wikipedia:Hitler listed at Redirects for discussion
An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Wikipedia:Hitler to the page Wikipedia:Most people who disagree with you on content are not vandals. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
