Sigs
Hi Argento, as an FYI, two of your warnings here didn't have signatures. No biggie, just wanted to mention it for your edification. Also, if you find yourself doing a lot of WikiGnome work, issuing warnings and all that, you might consider instaling Twinkle as it will greatly expedite the process for you and does cool stuff like help you tag pages for cleanup, create SPI reports, report users to AIV, welcome users, issue talkback notices, request page protection, etc. Great tool. I wish someone had told me about it when I started out, as it would have saved me tons of work. You can activate it in your Preferences. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 20:51, 27 November 2016 (UTC)

The WikiCup
I am afraid your submission of The Right Number as a DYK is ineligible for scoring in the WikiCup and I have removed the 5 points. This is because you nominated the article but did not contribute to its creation/expansion. Looking at the rules, this does not seem to be well explained, but the matter has been discussed in previous years. Basically you can only score points when you have done substantial work on an article during the course of the competition. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 21:04, 8 February 2017 (UTC)

March 2017 WikiCup newsletter
And so ends the first round of the competition, with 4 points required to qualify for round 2. It would have been 5 points, but when a late entrant was permitted to join the contest in February, a promise was made that his inclusion would not result in the exclusion of any other competitor. To achieve this, the six entrants that had the lowest positive score of 4 points have been added to the 64 people who otherwise would have qualified. As a result, some of the groups have nine contestants rather than eight. Our top four scorers in round 1 were:
- Cas Liber, last year's winner, led the field with two featured articles on birds and a total score of 674.
- Iry-Hor, a WikiCup newcomer, came next with a featured article, a good article and a tally of 282 bonus points for a score of 517. All these points came from the article Nyuserre Ini, an Ancient Egyptian pharaoh,
- 1989, another WikiCup newcomer, was in joint third place at 240. 1989 has claimed points for two featured lists and one good article relating to anime and comedy series, all of which were awarded bonus points.
- Peacemaker67 shared third place with five good articles and thirteen good article reviews, mostly on naval vessels. He is also new to the competition.
The largest number of DYKs have been submitted by Vivvt and The C of E, who each claimed for seven, and MBlaze Lightning achieved eight articles at ITN. Carbrera and Peacemaker67 each claimed for five GAs and Krishna Chaitanya Velaga was well out in front for GARs, having reviewed 32. No featured pictures, featured topics or good topics yet, but we have achieved three featured articles and a splendid total of fifty good articles.
So, on to the second round. Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 1 but before the start of round 2 can be claimed in round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points equally.
If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is a good article candidate, a featured process, or anything else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. My sandbox
Interesting that you brought up the whole merging thing. I kind of created a few fake navboxes that could potentially be real navboxes in my sandbox. It's kind of narrowing down characters that have potential to stay in articles. I would like to help out in merging if I agree on the merges etc. If you have the time can you strike out ones that you don't think belong as articles. It's only A-C right now so it shouldn't be too hard. Jhenderson 777 02:22, 22 February 2017 (UTC)
- @Jhenderson777: I'll take a look. My common standard for merge/don't merge is "Has this character had a self-titled comic, or been a dominant lead in a team book?" That's not a fool-proof system, because I think Rick Jones can sustain an article pretty easily. I've also been handslapped for being hasty a time or two.
- I also take into consideration sourced other-media appearances, depending on how significant the role was and how faithful it was - Kaecilius was the main villain in Dr Strange, but he had pretty much nothing in common with the comic character, for instance.
- And, for what it's worth, I only merge articles as I encounter them as I work through a clean up list. I don't have a master list or particular targets that I'm focusing on. Argento Surfer (talk) 13:39, 22 February 2017 (UTC)
- Self title is easy for superheroes but with supervillains and supporting characters that might be a little difficult to determine. Also what about Annex (comics) and Comet Man since you think characters like Butterball should get merged and are probably not notable too. Not that Butterball had his own issue but they are just about as recurring. Also since Kaecilius is merged. What about Aldrich Killian (just 1 issue) and the Luke Cage villains from the show? Appeared in mostly a tiny bit of issues. Mostly from here. Jhenderson 777 00:08, 28 February 2017 (UTC)
- @Jhenderson777: I'd be willing to boldly merge Annex and Comet Man. For villains/supporting characters, I typically go by the length/content of the article. If it's 90% plot summary with only 3 comics cited as sources and no other media appearances, it's an easy merge candidate. If it has a sizable publication history section that records repeated non-trivial appearances through several titles over several years and/or a cited list of multiple non-trivial appearances in video games or animation, it's a good candidate for a stand alone. When the article in question is somewhere between those, I may be bold anyway, start a discussion on it, or improve it myself. That decision is usually based on how aware I am of the character (I've read all eras of Marvel comics, and I've been reading them for 20 years or so), how important the article convinces me the character is, and how much I personally like the character. That last one's not exactly good policy, but I won't pretend that I'm unbiased when I'm choosing which articles to research and improve.
- For Killian... I'd vote merge in a discussion. The film version is covered adequately on Iron Man 3, and the video games are unsourced footnotes. I can't speak to the Luke Cage villains - I haven't seen it yet. Argento Surfer (talk) 13:33, 28 February 2017 (UTC)

- Doing some research on Comet Man. He may have potential after all to stay. But I am pretty sure Annex is fine to merge despite being a titular character. The villains of Luke Cage from the show are Black Mariah, Cottonmouth and Diamondback. Before the show ever existed I mainly knew of Chemistro as a Luke Cage villian and that's about it.. Infoboxes
There isn't really a single place to link to, but there've been a numbe rof disputes over the implementations of infoboxes. One involved the automatic inclusion of data from WikiData into boxes, which happened without watchlist notification. This meant infoboxes would be filled with data that editors had intended to leave out, and somtimes erroneous data. For example, ISBN numbers were being included for books that were first published before ISBN even existed. The way it was implemented made it unintuitive to remove these fields, assuming editors even noticed they had been included (since there was no Watchlist notice). The attitudes of the infobox maintainers was such that I've become wary of them—the contempt they showed for editors means I don't trust them not to pull such a thing again, and don't want to use infoboxes any more until safeguards are put in place so that such a fiasco doesn't occur again.
I've had other issues with {{Infobox book}}. Everywhere else, infoboxes are supposed to give a general summary of information, but WP:NOVELS has settled on {{Infobox book}}
being a summary of the first edition, which means including details such as ISBN, page numbers, etc. that don't apply to later editions. This turned into a dispute at The End of the Road, where the first edition is obscure—it sold poorly and was revised ten years later. Nearly every copy in existence is of the revised edition, yet WP:NOVELS insisted the infobox must be filled with details that do not apply outside of the obscure first edition. This extended to including the cover for the first edition, which I'm not allowed to remove under threat of a block from one of the WP:NOVELS admins, even though the cover is obscure (so fails to identify the book for anyone), illustrates nothing from the content of the book, and is the only copyrighted image in the article. This has driven me from WP:NOVELS, and is one more Infobox straw on the camel's back for me.
I'd prefer to have infoboxes, but I've gotten sick of this garbage. Curly "JFC" Turkey 🍁 ¡gobble! 21:01, 10 March 2017 (UTC)

You say most general sources list it as with the subtitle, but you posted a Weak Oppose. You are pretty much the deciding factor right now, I have been trying to get this changed for years. Thank you in advance for any consideration to change your vote. Cheers. Wufan10304 (talk) 03:02, 18 April 2017 (UTC)

DYK for Ultra (comics)
On 26 April 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Ultra (comics), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that many reviewers compared the superhero comic Ultra to the television series Sex and the City? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Ultra (comics). You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Ultra (comics)), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

May 2017 WikiCup newsletter
The second round of the competition has now closed, with just under 100 points being required to qualify for round 3. YellowEvan just scraped into the next round with 98 points but we have to say goodbye to the thirty or so competitors who didn't achieve this threshold; thank you for the useful contributions you have made to the Cup and Wikipedia. Our top scorers in round 2 were:
- Cas Liber, led the field with five featured articles, four on birds and one on astronomy, and a total score of 2049, half of which came from bonus points.
- 1989 was in second place with 826 points, 466 of which were bonus points. 1989 has claimed points mostly relating to anime and Japanese-related articles.
- Peacemaker67 took third place with two FAs, one GA and seven GARs, mostly on naval vessels or military personnel, scoring 543 points.
- Other contestants who scored over 400 points were Freikorp, Carbrera, and Czar. Of course all these points are now wiped out and the 32 remaining contestants start again from zero in round 3.
Vivvt submitted the largest number of DYKs (30), and MBlaze Lightning achieved 13 articles at ITN. Carbrera claimed for 11 GAs and Argento Surfer performed the most GARs, having reviewed 11. So far we have achieved 38 featured articles and a splendid 132 good articles. Commendably, 279 GARs have been achieved so far, more than double the number of GAs.
So, on to the third round. Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 2 but before the start of round 3 can be claimed in round 3. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points equally.
If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Hello! Thank you for making Blue Juice Comics's page. I'm just not sure that it passes WP:GNG as in my opinion it lacks multiple independent and reliable sources as per WP:CORP. Could you tell me how you think it passes WP:CORP? Thanks for your time in advance, greatly appreciated! Best, Nicnote • ask me a question • contributions 19:39, 3 May 2017 (UTC)
- @Nicnote: BJC is a small company, but I believe it's notable. It was the primary focus of a small publisher spotlight at Multiversity Comics. It was discussed as a highlight of the NYCC by Huffington Post last year and mentioned as comic book industry guest last month. Three of its five books have received coverage from trade publications (see my sandbox for additional material still in progress). It was named-dropped as a "lesser known" publisher on the Daily Collegian. Argento Surfer (talk) 20:23, 3 May 2017 (UTC)
- @Argento Surfer: I greatly appreciate your time taken to reply. My only worry is the lack of large press coverage. I will leave this for another reviewer to take a look at and see what they think, although I would suggest that you prepare yourself for a potential AfD given the lack of coverage normally required for companies and organisations. Trade publications are almost never taken seriously when addressing WP:GNG and passing 'trivial' mentions are given similar standing (I'm just speaking from experience when dealing with AfDs of businesses), thus I would really dig deep to find awards/circulation numbers (or purchase numbers) of their books to defend yourself. Nicnote • ask me a question • contributions 20:32, 3 May 2017 (UTC)
- @Nicnote: Thanks for the suggestion - this is the first article I've made on a publisher instead of a publication. Argento Surfer (talk) 20:43, 3 May 2017 (UTC)
- @Argento Surfer: Trust me, it's a breath of fresh air to see a genuinely constructive article about a small publisher rather than the SOAPy guff I usually have to CSD, AfD and PROD. Good luck with this and if you need any more help regarding articles that fall under WP:CORP, then let me know. Nicnote • ask me a question • contributions 20:47, 3 May 2017 (UTC)

Sorry if I'm stupid but I really don't get some of your recent Nick Fury moves.
I don't understand why you moved the 2017 comic from (comic book) to (2017 comic book) since there has never been an other comic by that specific name before. I also question why you merged the Nick Fury disambiguation and the Nick Fury agent of SHIELD one, now it's just a list of links to different articles which begin with the name even if they're very distinguishable and wouldn't be confused for each other.★Trekker (talk) 15:27, 10 May 2017 (UTC)
- I merged and expanded the DAB because all the content seemed like something a user might expect to find when they search "Nick Fury". If you trimmed some of the publications citing WP:PTM, I wouldn't object. I renamed the comic article because I didn't think (comic book) was sufficient, given how many variations of the title exist. Argento Surfer (talk) 16:00, 10 May 2017 (UTC)
- I think maybe the (2017 comic book) could be moved to something like (comic series) or the like, I feel having the year in the title would give readers the impression that there has been a previous title by that exact name. I was also thinking that maybe the disambiguation could be moved to a general list article for Nick Fury titles.★Trekker (talk) 17:02, 10 May 2017 (UTC)
- I'd be ok with moving the article back to (comic book) as long as there's a hatnote clarifying the year and pointing to the list you mentioned. Argento Surfer (talk) 17:37, 10 May 2017 (UTC)
- I have now moved the disambiguation page to a list instead and expanded it. I would appreciate if you could move the Nick Fury (2017 comic book) back to simply (comic book) since I think it's unlikely that it would be confused for any of the other titles, with a hatnote it would be perfect.★Trekker (talk) 05:57, 12 May 2017 (UTC)

Hi, Argento Surfer. I noticed you weighed in on an infobox image proposal in April of this year. You were the only one, so I suppose the Spider-man talk page is not entirely active. I have opened a discussion for a new image, and your input would be appreciated. Thanks. DrRC (talk) 19:20, 14 May 2017 (UTC)

Interview Correction
Hi Argento Surfer! Thank you for filling out the interview questionnaire here. On question number 3 "It looks like your project was formed in 2009. How active would you say it was now?", you responded saying that the project was formed in 2004 instead. Thank you for this correction. Is it okay, for accuracy, and less viewer confusion, if I change the question (and your response) to look like this:
It looks like your project was formed in 2004. How active would you say it was now?
- I'm not involved with other projects, so it's hard for me to gauge the activity level, other than to say it appears less active than it used to be. Looking through the discussion archives, new topics used to receive more replies than they do now. Argento Surfer (talk) 13:20, 20 June 2017 (UTC)
When I do this, I can add a note on the bottom of the article that looks like this:
A big thank you to Argento Surfer for a correction on question three on the interview. The question stated that "It looks like [the] project was formed in 2009.". Argento corrected this, and gave us evidence that the project was created in 2004.
Please give me your response as soon as you can. Regards, Jamesjpk (talk) 19:22, 20 June 2017 (UTC)
- @Jamesjpk: Yes, that's fine. Argento Surfer (talk) 21:56, 20 June 2017 (UTC)
