GOCE November 2012 copy edit drive update

Guild of Copy Editors November 2012 backlog elimination drive mid-drive newsletter Participation: Out of 31 people signed up for this drive so far, 22 have copy-edited at least one article. If you've signed up but haven't yet copy-edited any articles, every bit helps; if you haven't signed up yet, it's not too late. Join us! Progress report: We're on track to meet our targets for the drive. We have reduced our target group of articles—November and December 2011—by over 50%, and 34 of the the 56 requests made in September and October this year have already been fulfilled. However, the rate of tagging for copy edit has increased, and this month we are just keeping the size of the backlog stable. So, all you copy editors, please do come along and help us! The September 2012 Copy Edit of the Month Contest was won by Baffle gab1978 for his copy edit of Expulsion of the Acadians. Runner up was Gareth Griffith-Jones for his edit of I Could Fall in Love. GOCE November drive wrap-up

Guild of Copy Editors November 2012 backlog elimination drive wrap-up Participation: Thanks to all who participated! Out of 38 people who signed up this drive, 33 copy-edited at least one article. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. All the barnstars have now been distributed. Progress report: We achieved our primary goal of clearing November and December 2011 from the backlog. For the first time since the drives began, the backlog consists only of articles tagged in the current year. The total backlog at the end of the month was 2690 articles, down from 8323 when we started out over two years ago. We completed all 56 requests outstanding before November 2012 as well as eight of those made in November. Copy Edit of the Month: Voting is now over for the October 2012 competition, and prizes have been issued. The November 2012 contest is closed for submissions and open for voting. The December 2012 contest is now open for submissions. Everyone is welcome to submit entries and to vote. Coodinator election: The six-month term for our fourth tranche of Guild coordinators will expire at the end of December. End of Year Events from the Guild of Copy Editors The Guild of Copy Editors invites you to participate in its events: The December 2012 Copy Edit of the Month Contest is currently in the submissions stage. Submit your best December copy edit there before the end of the month. Submissions end, and discussion and voting begin, on January 1 at 00:00 (UTC). Voting is in progress for the November 2012 Copy Edit of the Month Contest. Everyone is welcome to vote, whether they have entered the contest or not. GOCE July 2013 news report

Guild of Copy Editors July 2013 backlog elimination drive mid-drive newsletter Participation: Out of 30 people who have signed up for this drive so far, 18 have participated. While all participants are currently doing a fine job, we just don't have as many of them as we have had in the past. Heads up on pinging on Wikipedia

Hello Armadillopteryx. I noticed your attempt to fix your ping in this edit. That method does not work. The notifications system only informs a user when you link their username in the same saved edit as you successfully sign your post. A ping cannot be fixed in a later edit by adding a signature you forgot, by fixing your botched signature, or by fixing the user name link. Instead, you have to link the user name and successfully sign in a manner that the software parses as a new line of text. Help:Fixing failed pings has more information about the issues involved and provides suggested methods to successfully perform the fix.

I don't like the present version, but I guess I don't see what reverting it right now would really accomplish; the debate is apparently still very much open on the talk page. I think the most important thing is to just get that discussion to the point where we establish the version that is not to be touched (which will certainly not be this version, seeing as only one editor supports it). Hi, I figured there was a good chance my edits to Scott Wilson's "later years and death" section might get removed because I don't have a 'written' source for that info, but I can share that I'm his son, Scott, and I know that info because I lived with him till he moved to Los Banos. That's probably still not good enough though because anybody could 'claim' to be related to him, but I'm fine if it doesn't qualify. No big deal. @50.247.89.201: Hi Scott, thanks for your message. I have no reason to doubt you, but Wikipedia's sourcing policy is based on verifiability, not truth. This means that information can only be added if accompanied by a citation to a secondary source, even if the editor is an expert on the material. I also want to recommend that if you want to contribute to Scott Wilson (bodybuilder) in the future, please post an edit request in lieu of making the edits yourself. Since you are the subject's son, it's considered a conflict of interest for you to edit his article directly. You are nevertheless welcome to share comments, sources and requests on the talk page. ArbCom 2018 election voter message

Hello, Armadillopteryx. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 2 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Hello! An IP editor keeps changing the Aquaria (drag queen) article. If you don't mind, I could use some help reverting (if they continue editing) because I don't want to get in trouble for reverting too many times, or edit warring. American (album) certainly links to a page that exists, but it's a redirect to a disambiguation page containing a list of albums and other musical topics, leaving the reader to work out which of them mentions the RuPaul song. It seems better to send the reader directly to the album article which mentions the song. The links I introduced are also redirects, but they're NOTBROKEN because they indicates possible future articles. If a song is considered notable or gets discussed in more detail elsewhere, the redirect can be changed in one place to link to the new content. Certes (talk) 23:47, 20 February 2019 (UTC)
