DYK for -ussy
On 1 February 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article -ussy, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that a donut has a donutussy? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/-ussy. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, -ussy), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

I managed to get the piri to donate some images to Commons. I added it to Template:Did you know nominations/Piri (singer), as well as a more up to date hook. Any chance you could approve it? Launchballer 20:14, 11 February 2023 (UTC)
- Two questions:
- How 'adult' are hooks allowed to be? I managed to find a source that details exactly what she gets up to on OnlyFans, and I'm wondering if including it may make the hook even more interesting.
- If not, as there are now plenty of sources for her having a single called updown, could you please add a green tick to ALT1?--Launchballer 14:08, 28 February 2023 (UTC)
- @Launchballer: WP:CENSOR explicitly allows this content on Wikipedia, but I think in general, sexually explicit shock-value is discouraged. ALT1 is not cited in the article, so I was unable to approve it. AviationFreak💬 16:12, 28 February 2023 (UTC)

Hello! I nominated Li Rui for FA status, but the review is now at risk of being archived because there have not been many comments. Question from Baba Elle (01:20, 7 July 2023)
How do I add a photo to Albert Wren, M.P. Northwestern Ontario, Canada? --Baba Elle (talk) 01:20, 7 July 2023 (UTC)
- @Baba Elle: Wikipedia stores most of its photos at Wikimedia Commons (if there is no photo of Wren currently on Commons, you can upload it here). Photos there must be copyright-free (this usually means you took it yourself, have permission from the photographer, or the photo is very old - The upload link above should contain a tutorial of sorts). Once the photo is on Commons, you can edit the Albert Wren article to add the image. In the infobox, there will be a parameter called
image
. Just add the name of the Commons file after the equals sign that follows theimage
parameter, save the edit, and the image should appear. If you have any trouble, just let me know. AviationFreak💬 01:38, 7 July 2023 (UTC)

Johns Children page, a reply to your message….
Not exactly sure what need… BUT I’m a friend of Andy Ellison and am responsible for the plaque placed in Leatherhead about them and their club. My post refers to the video of the final, and comprehensive, talk about their Club, held last year. Wiki prevents the YouTube link but I then removed and merely made reference to finding it on YouTube! Ie search ‘Marc Bolan Bluesette’. 79.76.68.111 (talk) 14:04, 11 July 2023 (UTC)
- Your edit to John's Children did not include a reliable source, which is generally required for a fact to be included in a Wikipedia article. Because no such source was provided (typically things like news organizations covering an item are used as sources), I reverted your edit. Typically, things like YouTube interviews are not of enough relevance to be included in an article. See WP:NOT. AviationFreak💬 14:11, 11 July 2023 (UTC)
- Not sure how to overcome! Perhaps you could suggest? I’ve not put things on Wiki before! The video is of the public talk I delivered, and had filmed, from the research I had undertaken over several years about JC and their club in my town. The video has been placed to YouTube for posterity, and also on the related Facebook page. Does that help? 79.76.68.111 (talk) 14:21, 11 July 2023 (UTC)
- Generally, we simply don't include that sort of content/information on articles. The video is likely not fit for inclusion on Wikipedia, but I would imagine those seeking it are still able to find it through the channels you've mentioned. AviationFreak💬 16:07, 11 July 2023 (UTC)

Antarctica
Many of the Antarctica short entries should be merged rather than deleted. Tagging them for deletion and spam messaging me is counterproductive. Please revert yourself and consider merging into neighbouring articles.. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:23, 11 July 2023 (UTC)
- There is essentially no information to merge; all that exists on each article is the coordinates of the feature and the person who it is named after, neither of which are going to be worth including on a broader article. I do apologize for the spam and I was going back and forth on whether to leave you templates, but I ultimately figured it wouldn't be hard to remove and it'd be important if you wanted to easily de-prod. AviationFreak💬 21:07, 11 July 2023 (UTC)
Hello, AviationFreak,
As a NAC closer, please be careful with AFDs like this one that are not unanimous or near unanimous. NACs are not supposed to close "close-call" AFDs and while there were more people arguing to Keep this article than Delete, it did have a couple of editors stating they wanted to Delete this article. However, the one editor who might contest this closure is currently blocked so I do not think your closure will be contested.
My post here is not intended to discourage you from closing future discussions, I just want you to be careful as being dragged to Deletion Review has been one of the most unpleasant activities I've experienced in my 10 years on Wikipedia and I'd like to prevent other editors from having a case brought against them in this forum. Thank you for all of your contributions to the project. Liz Read! Talk! 05:10, 16 July 2023 (UTC)
- Liz, thanks for the pointer - I'm very new to NACs so this advice is much appreciated. I felt that both the numerical majority and policy/sourcing argument (i.e., Sirfurboy and SportingFlyer's sources + GEOLAND) were stronger for the Keep !voters, but I'll keep the closure/DRV risk matrix closer to the front of my mind in the future and focus my closures on (more) unanimous discussions. Thanks again! AviationFreak💬 05:44, 16 July 2023 (UTC)

Rejected submission
Hi, I noticed you rejected my recent draft submission since it is very similar to an existing article. I wrote the draft as a improved and expanded version that would replace that one. The MOS:LEADBOLD situation
Hey, AviationFreak. I've kept watch of the thread I started around a month ago about the bold lead links. It appears there has not been much progress on that recently. It seems you were interested in making a bot to deal with it. Is that something you still plan on doing? If not, should I try? I'm unsure about that last one because I'm unfamiliar with how bots work on Wikipedia and my programming skills will likely need improvement. ~UN6892 tc 03:07, 31 August 2023 (UTC)
- Yes - This seems to be an ongoing issue. I have not been doing any work on the issue and I don't think I would be able to be much help between school starting back up and not having worked with WP bots before. This issue is particularly challenging because it centers on a prose issue (i.e., we're dealing with human-readable things here, not machine-readable things like categories) and it's unclear what the best way is to locate these issues when parsing the wikitext in a program. I've made a regex (in linked thread) that seems to work most of the time, but it's not perfect; I imagine that to fully solve this issue, a bot with code more complex than just a regex will be needed. If you'd like to give it a shot, by all means, do - it would make for good programming practice (if that's something you're looking for) and it's nigh-unto-impossible to actually damage the project in a nonreversible way if something goes wrong. On the other hand, it might not be a super easy project (all sorts of edge cases) and it could be worth contacting an editor who is more experienced with bot development. Either way, best of luck - remember that bringing up an issue doesn't put the onus on you to solve it (or have it solved at all), and there is WP:NODEADLINE. Question from We Are Subliminal (05:03, 4 September 2023)
hello, i want to know how to edit a biograpgy --We Are Subliminal (talk) 05:03, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
- @We Are Subliminal: Help with editing of articles is given at the editing help page. Biographies in general don't have any special restrictions unless the person in question is living (or recently deceased). These restrictions, which mostly just require heavier use of inline citations, a lack of original research, and more stringent versions of other key policies, can be found at the policy on biographies of living people. Question from Justarandomguy174 (15:03, 16 September 2023)
Hi, I have a question.
Is "to consider" an opinion? Sorry, I'm not native and learning. --Justarandomguy174 (talk) 15:03, 16 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Justarandomguy174: The verb "to consider" can be used in many ways, some of which can involve expressing opinions. For instance, "I consider Wikipedia to be a useful source of information" is an opinion. However, it can also be used as an imperative (for example, "Consider the following") or as a synonym to "realize" (for example, "You fail to consider that anyone can edit Wikipedia"), in addition to other possible uses. Best of luck learning the language, no need to apologize! AviationFreak💬 15:24, 16 September 2023 (UTC)

Greetings, AviationFreak. I am curious to know how you find un-copyrighted sources for Wikipedia. Thanks! --Moriarty49 (talk) 13:26, 26 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Moriarty49: One important thing to remember is that copyright restrictions generally only apply for images. For that, there's plenty of freely-licensed images available on Wikimedia Commons. Sources for Wikipedia are often copyrighted, and one can avoid infringing on this copyright (or other intellectual property protections) by summarizing sources in your own words. More information on this is available at WP:CLOP. AviationFreak💬 14:15, 26 October 2023 (UTC)

Hi, I was wondering how I put in a link... is it as simple as a copy-and-paste, or is there anything special I need to do? Thanks! --Moriarty49 (talk) 19:17, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Moriarty49: Welcome to the Wiki! Linking on Wikipedia has a couple of meanings - You can have wikilinks (like that one to our Graph theory article) or external links (that one goes to NASA's website). Wikilinks are inserted by placing the article's title in double square brackets like this: [[Article title]], while external links consist of the URL inside single square brackets brackets. More information on both kinds of linking can be found here. AviationFreak💬 18:08, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
Question from ChuckPhil on Category:Novels set during the American Civil War (23:56, 15 November 2023)
Hello Aviation Freak. Novels Set During the American Civil War. I have contributed to wikipedia before but it’s been a couple of years and “improvements” must have been made. I want to add a novel that climaxes in the Civil War in Kentucky. My last contribution corrected the fleet’s sailing in 1940. The battleships, carriers and heavy cruisers sailed from San Pedro/Long Beach, not San Diego. Enuf. Your advice in navigating the current system. Thanks. --ChuckPhil (talk) 23:56, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
- @ChuckPhil: If I'm understanding correctly, you'd like to add to the category found at Category:Novels set during the American Civil War. Since this is a category and not an article (rather a collection of articles), the way you would add an element involves actually modifying the article you'd like to add. If your article is, say, The Red Badge of Courage (which is, of course, already in the category, but I'm using it here as an example), you'd need to edit that article, scroll all the way to the bottom of the text in the source editor, and add the line "[[Category:Novels set during the American Civil War]]" - this would add the article to the category. Let me know if I misunderstood your question or if there's anything else I can help out with! AviationFreak💬 00:44, 16 November 2023 (UTC)

Question from Wiki-Wiki-2028 (07:54, 27 December 2023)
Hello, Thank you in advance for helping me. I just created a user name and password. My name is Demetrius. I created my account in order to create a Wikipedia for a Musical Artist. I was experimenting with building her infobox within the Sandbox to see what it looked like to test my coding. It was deleted. Obviously, I need to be setup up properly before creating this Wikipedia. I also need to declare a COI. I took all of the photos on her album covers and except 2 albums. I thought I would upload all of the images, album covers (high resolution) first and then work on the article to connect to them. I need help with how to get started in the right direction. Any feedback you have, I am willing to learn.
Thank you, Demetrius --Wiki-Wiki-2028 (talk) 07:54, 27 December 2023 (UTC)

These articles meet all general notability requirements for inclusion in Wikipedia and that they are separate languages with their Iso codes and reference codes and names. Here they are. They are also not redirects as Anomie bot and Rober Mclennon only added redirects based on similar names but they are totally different language articles that I have created with information verified and reliable. Here they are. Thank you. [[1]], [[2]], [[3]], [[4]], [[5]], [[6]], [[7]], [[8]], [[9]] 2600:1700:2F01:CDC0:CDB:CEB6:91A7:23BB (talk) 16:59, 27 December 2023 (UTC)
Question from Baqir Muaayad (13:32, 30 December 2023)
How to make a perfect article ? --Baqir Muaayad (talk) 13:32, 30 December 2023 (UTC)
- @Baqir Muaayad Wikipedia has a scale used to grade article quality. While it's unlikely that a particular article will ever be "perfect", you can learn more about this scale here. AviationFreak💬 15:09, 30 December 2023 (UTC)
Question from Damian Lew (20:38, 14 January 2024)
Hello, I'm curious on how to change the svg file on wiki commons? I have reverted a file to an earlier version, the png changed accordingly but the svg is still the same. Thank you --Damian Lew (talk) 20:38, 14 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Damian Lew: I'm not quite sure what you mean. Is the file you mean to change stored as an SVG or a PNG? As far as I'm aware, Commons does not do any "on-the-fly" conversions between various filetypes; a single file will not be exported as both a PNG and SVG. I have also found that file changes on Commons (particularly with SVGs) just take a little while for changes to be reflected - that may be your issue. AviationFreak💬 20:46, 14 January 2024 (UTC)
Question from Advancemom21 on Food Lion (11:59, 18 January 2024)
William ‘Bill’ Hefner was the founder. It was Hefners then they merged and it became Food Town then Food Lion. They gave wrong information. I know because I was younger when all this took place. --Advancemom21 (talk) 11:59, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Advancemom21: I'm assuming you're referencing the "History" section in the article for Food Lion. I did a brief look for sources stating Bill Hefner was the founder, and one of the only pieces I could find that mentioned a "Bill Hefner" and "Food Lion" together was this piece, which only talks about Hefner as a politician (i.e., not involved in Food Lion's leadership). If you can find reliable sources supporting your claim, I'd be happy to help you in incorporating them into the article on Food Lion. AviationFreak💬 16:16, 18 January 2024 (UTC)

Question from NedScopMCC (03:33, 20 February 2024)
Hi, What type of citations are needed to correct a statement or information that is requested to be removed from a wikipedia article. The Council I work for has asked to remove a "Proposed amalgamation". How can I inform Wikipedia that the Proposed Amalgamation did not proceed and that it is noted. Thank you --NedScopMCC (talk) 03:33, 20 February 2024 (UTC)
- @NedScopMCC: Hi! Taking a look at the article, it looks like the section you're referring to notes that the proposed amalgamation did not happen, and this decision was made >5yrs ago. The source for this claim, however, is dead, and it would be ideal to have a working source for that information (this would include repairing it if there's not a good current link with the claimed information). Once that's done, the best practice for an editor with a conflict of interest (which I see you've duly declared) would probably be to start a discussion on the article's Talk Page. Given the article's recent history, this would be the third step in the BRD process of achieving a decision on an article edit.
- Sometimes, especially on smaller articles, these discussions don't get much action. If that's the case (i.e., nobody has responded) after a few weeks, it would likely be fine to make the deletion with a mention of the Talk Page discussion in the edit summary. Good on ya for declaring your COI and taking the right steps to do this properly; feel free to reach out if you have any other questions! AviationFreak💬 03:54, 20 February 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks AviationFreak for you advise, really appreciate it. My first edit, didn't go to well. Given the moderators responses (see below) and the manner that the information needs to be verified. I would need to have a council resolution paper written and posted on an independent site to state so that the wikipedia article could refer to it as a citation, and then be assessed if that is sufficient evidence to delete the content from the article.
- I understand the premise on ensuring the content is trusted. I'll leave it to the council to deal with as it is way more effort than it needs to be. Even though the article is over 5 years old, and the council operations have no intention to amalgamate,
- Thanks for your help.
- Below is the request to 331dot, providing context of the deletion.
- As an officer of the council and noted in the change as well as on my user page CoI. I have addressed the requirements to request the change. The change has been requested by the Mayor of the City of Maitland CIty Council. NedScopMCC (talk) 01:58, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Your draft article, Draft:Quaker terms
Hello, AviationFreak. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Quaker terms".
In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material, the draft has been deleted. When you plan on working on it further and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

- @Only seen once: I don't see you as having been blocked in the block log. In any case, if you are blocked/banned for a temporary amount of time, the best course of action is to simply wait out the block, take stock of the reason(s) you were blocked in the first place (in addition to reading up on any other Wikipedia policy/guideline you're unclear on), and refrain from that behavior in the future. I was editing the page for Willy Puchner, when I noticed that there is no short description.
How do I add one?
Leuchar55 (talk) 00:33, 16 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Leuchar55: There's a great tool called the Short Description Helper that you can use for this. The page linked there has a lot of info, but the basic idea is that you enable it in your preferences and then can edit/add short descriptions. As an aside, the Willy Puchner does have a short description: "Austrian photographer, artist, painter and author". Let me know if you have any other questions! how do I add an image to a table of contents, like List of governors of Nevada? --MikoDT (talk) 16:40, 24 April 2024 (UTC)
- @MikoDT: I'm not sure exactly what you mean by a Table of Contents - If you're referring to the infobox, you can add an image by adding a filename to the
|image=
parameter. If you mean something like the images in the long table on the List of governors of Nevada article, you can use [[File:FILENAME]] to add an image to a table (or anywhere else on an article). I'm not super clear on what you're asking, so if you have additional questions just let me know! AviationFreak💬 22:27, 24 April 2024 (UTC)

Question from Damian Lew (18:26, 24 May 2024)
Hello, I made a move request recently and I'm pretty sure it qualifies for approval as there are two users in support of it and non against. The 7-day listing period has elapsed but the request was moved to WP:RMB instead of being resolved. Is there any way I can notify admins of it? --Damian Lew (talk) 18:26, 24 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Damian Lew: As this falls under a few of the contentious topics on Wikipedia, I think it might be prudent to wait a bit more before closing a discussion; if there were, say, 10 unopposed supporting users at this point then I'd be well-convinced of consensus, but at this point there's no rush. In perhaps a few weeks, if the discussion has not been closed, I believe the closure requests page would be the right place to ask. Thanks for your contributions thus far, and thanks for reaching out - article moves and naming conventions aren't my strong suits by any means, but I'm always happy to help! AviationFreak💬 02:04, 25 May 2024 (UTC)
- I know you're not an expert in this regard, but seeing that this is a time consuming process, is there a way to move an article to a specific title that is currently being used as a redirect without making a request? For obviously less contentious topics. Many thanks Damian Lew (talk) 02:29, 25 May 2024 (UTC)
- I believe the most relevant information is in this section; it appears that non-admins have the technical ability "move over a redirect" with only a single line of page history. Anything more than that would seem to require a technical request. In the past, I've effectively "moved" pages that only had me in the edit history by copy-pasting the page's contents over a redirect with nontrivial edit history (and then requesting speedy deletion under criterion G7), but this is probably not best practice, especially if the page to be moved has any substantial editing history. Map for American Airlines Flight 320
Hi there, last year you added a map to the Paradise Airlines Flight 901A article that you'd created to show the flight path, using the CAB report as a source. I've been trying to wrap up the American Airlines Flight 320 article for a FA Nomination, and it could benefit from a similar map, showing the approach to LaGuardia over the East River. Any interest in trying to take on that kind of project again? Appendix B of the CAB report (page 27 of the PDF here) has a drawing, but it's not clear enough to try to integrate directly into the article. Thanks! RecycledPixels (talk) 20:25, 11 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hi RecycledPixels - thanks for reaching out! I'm always excited about this kind of work, but at the moment I'm unfortunately going to have to turn you down. This is mainly due to the fact that I can't find a good way to export an SVG of the NYC area that doesn't result in a massive file, causing Inkscape to become unusable for editing it. Obviously the on-ground details aren't a necessary part of this map, but I don't see an easy way to just export the land shapefiles with perhaps some light ground detail for context. This is made less solvable (for me) by the fact that I just started a new internship and haven't had much time for WP in general. If you're in a pinch for a map, putting a red line on a PNG export of the area from OpenStreetMaps would always work. Again, thanks for contacting me - this particular article is a tricky one, but if you have a need for similar maps in the future, I just might be able to help out. Best of luck! Question from RadzynMojeMiasto (07:19, 2 July 2024)
Hello! I will appreciate your help.
Can a documentary film with memories of older residents of the city, be an encyclopedic source?
15 years ago, a film was made with memories of old residents of my city about what the city looked like in the 1930s-80s. The film was released in an analog version, and was also shown at a local cinema. Today you can find it as a series on YouTube divided into 15 episodes.
The film contains photos, plans and materials from the National Archives, and I have no doubt that they are historical sources. My question, however, is about the recorded memories themselves. At one, a person recounts that the building (about which I am writing an article) was converted into a military casino during WWII. However, I can't find information about this anywhere. Is such information with a footnote to the film suitable for publication on Wikipedia? --RadzynMojeMiasto (talk) 07:19, 2 July 2024 (UTC)
- @RadzynMojeMiasto: That's a good question! This is a question with a bit of a nuanced answer, but I think it's probably not a great source to use. I think it's reasonable to interpret the guideline on reliable sources as discounting something like anecdotes in a documentary interview. There is also an essay on interviews that may be tangentially relevant. Ultimately, I think perhaps the most relevant policy is what can be found here on primary sources. If you're able to incorporate the source into the article in a way that complies with these policies and guidelines, I think it'd be fine (maybe something with in-text attribution?), but I think that might be difficult to achieve. I know this can be a bit confusing, so don't hesitate to reach out if you have further questions! AviationFreak💬 14:54, 4 July 2024 (UTC)
Question from Krysler.m (16:18, 2 July 2024)
Hi! I’m trying to revise an edit from another editor, but after seeing revisions by other editors, it seems required to mention not only who’s edit you are revising, but also specifically what edit, using a long string of digits to denote it. Can you help me extract this string of digits from an edit? Thanks! --Krysler.m (talk) 16:18, 2 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Krysler.m: Hi! In general, it's not necessary to mention an editor/edit when revising it. Simply editing the page will allow you to make any desired modifications (from your contribution history, it seems you know your way around this). What I imagine you're seeing is editors reverting edits by others, which is common when things like vandalism or unsourced claims are added. These edits are often made semi-automatically, using tools like the undo feature or Huggle. These tools (at least the Undo tool, and I believe Huggle as well) will automatically create an edit summary like "Undid revision 1234567890 by A_User_Name (talk)". It is not necessary to add this edit summary when manually editing a page. I hope I've answered your question - feel free to let me know if you have others! AviationFreak💬 15:02, 4 July 2024 (UTC)
