Template:Pennsylvania during the American Revolutionary War

Regarding your edit to the template above, is there a code issue with the template? First date (1774) renders as '1774 in italics (and leading apostrophe), rather than just as 1774. Alphageekpa (talk) 11:40, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Recurring elements of 8-bit Theater

Going by what you said, really, that entire section should just be deleted and the stuff can be moved to the bios. Especially the two about BM's hatred of Fighter and Garland's impophobia. --Jopasopa (talk) 22:31, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:BlackBelt(8bit).jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:BlackBelt(8bit).jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BigrTex 02:27, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Oswald/JFK"most often thought to have" in USMC article

Why'd you change the language back to the unnecessarily vague one? For the purposes of the article, the shorter version is perfectly acceptable. It's not an article about the assassination. --Mmx1 (talk) 03:42, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Vandalism to your talk page

Glad to see that Rlevse has taken care of the IP vandalizing your page. Please feel free to drop a notd to me or to him the next time it happens. You can also drop a note to WP:AIV. A longer block could be in store next time around. — ERcheck (talk) 02:12, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

A longer block was just placed on the 132.79.13.15 address. Because of the pattern of attacks on your talk page, I went ahead and blocked that address for a week.
The WHOIS I ran only resolved back to the Army National Guard Bureau; the talk page is tagged to identify it as a shared IP from there. —C.Fred (talk) 21:17, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
If the vandalism starts back after the block expires and is all coming from the same address, the next step would be to just extend the block to one month, then six. If it starts again from a different address, that address would also be blocked.
The secondary option would be to file a report with the site's admin contact. On the one hand, given the nature of the comments, they might be inclined to pursue the person behind the vandalism for misuse of the Internet access and/or other misconduct. On the other hand, I suspect that computer has some nature of public access where they might not be able to determine who was using it. —C.Fred (talk) 02:32, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
The harrassment from the same IP address is unacceptable. I've set a block for 1 month. — ERcheck (talk) 12:11, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Response from User:RekonDog

I would greatly appreciate your help on the editting part, I am very new to wiki and the help portion of this wiki site is way too complex for me to begin...As for now, I really plan on reconstructing the former page that I posted awhile back; since there are many topics that I feel are pertinent information, too much to leave out.

I am not sure how to properly use the reference because I plan on including refs from MARADMINS Navy and Marine Doctrines and so on. All the information that I typed in so far is from my own experiences and from books I bought or borrowed. I haven't recited any thing from any other sources but I would plan on doing so as long as I don't tarnish the copywrite rule.

I wouldn't need any help editing now but I will call you in the future once I think I elaborated enough of Force Recon. It would just confuse me right now; as I am already half lost in this article.

Semper Fi, RekonDog (talk) 21:28, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

I see that you noticed I've kinda came to a halt. I am caught in a dilemma about how I can make a table on the structure and organization in Force Recon Companies, their company's individual history. I have all the Company logos, the old ones and their current ones. Not sure how I can do that as yet. It's been a rat race trying to get a hold of anyone that knows the history of the companies. I know 1st and 2nd pretty well, but the other companies are beyond my reaches. I have sources in the Force Reconnaissance Association but finding someone who knows the extensive knowledge in FORECON history is quite difficult.

I took your advice and joined that "wikiproject military history' page, thanks for the suggestion! RekonDog (talk) 05:07, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

I took the time and seen how your User Page looks, I hope you don't mind that I 'kinda' copy your style to meet my criteria of style. Yours seems so uniformed yet simple. I learned creating tabs, that works so far, but I need more edge (you are the prime example)! Thanks for your help on the tables! Oorah Devil Dog!

RekonDog (talk) 17:58, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Ribbons

Thanks for the "Ribbon" info...I accidently deleted your response to my ribbon uploading while consolitating everyong tips into a separate section on my "user discussion" page. Could you please repost those links for me as it will be helpful. Don't ask me how I deleted it...all I can say is that I'm not the best PC user friendly Marine around!

RekonDog (talk) 14:28, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

Editing Hints

I've somewhat created a table but I want to increase the font of "1st Force Reconnaissance Company" header, however also including it as a tabled Header instead of 'floating' above the table I have so far... I also am wondering how I can decrease the image size of the logo about half its size!!

As you can tell, I'm not the best PC language mediator around! As Marines.... "We're paid to shoot, not to think!!" (inside joke!!)

This is the referenced page I'm talking about...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:RekonDog/Sandbox.

USN aircraft designations

Hi Bahamut - I generally titled these templates as USN designations since (as I understand it) that was the service that actually issued the designations (through BuAer), and it also meant (a) a uniform approach to these templates, whether they included aircraft operated by the USMC or not and (b) avoided having to research whether there were or were not aircraft operated by the USMC amongst those listed on the templates before titling the templates. That being said, I have no strong feelings on the issue one way or the other, and if you think that adding "/UMSC" to any or all of them would be more suitable, then please go right ahead. Thanks for the heads up though! :) --Rlandmann (talk) 02:08, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Actually, I'd be wary of changing these to the mil navbox, since these templates are always used in conjunction with other aviation templates (such as the aircraft's manufacturer, and a generic aviation template that links aircraft with airports, airlines, and air forces); this means that any future changes to the mil navbox template could cause serious disruption to articles unless the generic navbox template was changed in the same way at the same time. Since (in its default state) the mil navbox looks identical to the generic navbox, I'm wondering what the advantage to changing would be anyway? --Rlandmann (talk) 20:57, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Consensus on List of U.S. Marine Corps acronyms and expressions‎.

Yes, lets try and resolve this. You want to keep "bob for cock" in the list of "USMC' terms, but you undid my modification to the term "donkey dick".

Here is a proposed compromise. I modified the term "donkey dick", I left the original content/intent pretty much intact. I added what we used "throughout" the Corps in the 80's and 90's (not just boot camp). See also [1], [2], [3] and others. Your statement for undoing the change was "If you can cite where it initially began, we'll leave it". Ok, fair enough, we'll do the same with your terms "If you can cite where it initially began, we'll leave it"

But, just let me state that the term "Bob for Cock" is a more vulgar form of the term "Bob the Knob". When I was in boot camp, high school and college, "Bob the Knob" was indeed used for individuals making a bobbing motion with their head in classrooms, high school, college etc, and other places. You state that you have not heard the term "Bob for Cock" used outside bootcamp/MTC. One reason very well could be that in the 80's there were a lot more "mens" only type clubs and organizations, so one heard those vulgarities more prevalently and things did not have to be "politically correct". In today's society, those vulgarities just are not as socially acceptable, or "politically correct". Additionally, those terms are not inkeeping with the opening paragraphs of the page, wihch states the terms are "unique to or predominantly used by the Marine Corps". Those terms are not "unique" but their general public use has deminished. Those terms are not used predominantly by the Marine Corps", the key there is the "Marine Corps". We are talking about terms that are used by some "individuals", I would venture to say you would not use those terms anywhere else, say in your office space, at the next formation, brief, PT or any where, when a WM, any Marine for that matter, is doing that nodding off motion.

I hope you see my point, and I'm not trying to "censor" anything, you have done good work on this and what looks like a lot of other wiki content as well, I just want this to be accurate. BlueKnight2874 (talk) 19:36, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

Response from RekonDog

No star fom my Iraqi medal even though I was there for approx. year; attached with same unit. However, both of my afghan and Iraqi medals cancelled my GWOT per MCO.?.?? Awarded GWOT until awarded present medals I have now.

Speaking of incompliance to uniform regs, the stars [according to the templates]] aren't spaced-cencer correctly. Wonder why they have these computer-graphic ribbons and device with poor quality and visual clarity?

NOTE: I was given permission by the owner to distribute the FORECON company insignia onto wiki, I 'crossed all my T's and dotted my I's". It was deleted anyways... I mentioned who was the 'true' author and scribed everything that would consider it 'legal'. I contacted the creator of those insignia and he does verify that I have full permission to distribute them. Where did I go wrong?

RekonDog 14:43, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

How do I add the star on my Iraq campaign template? Given that I spent hours posting them in the first place...I am not very computer savvy. I just know to type, that's it! Please help, I'll appreciate it. SF
RekonDog 12:11, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

Thank you so much! I've noticed you placed the stars on my ribbons for me...I was stuggling. I decided to design my user page; I got the idea from yours, hope you didn't mind. I took a different approach, however, I spent time utilizing the trial and error method on a separate format - plus extra other things! I checked out your Culture of the United States Marine Corps article that you created, all I can say is pure genious. That was something it is to be stressed because 'Our Gun Club' does in fact have a unique culture, true given that our USMC birthday was born in a bar, truth said! What better place than the finest establishment in town seeking a good group of men to get the job done, right?
RekonDog 14:55, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

I do have some question if you don't mind. Would you know where to locate the Pistol Expert Badge image? I browsed the Wiki Commons even but no avail. I am trying to skate through this one by avoiding a photo scanner, and are there those template-things that can add the 2nd Award, 3rd Award, etc.. for those weapon qual badges? If not, how would I create one (like those ribbons and its devices), I have a photo scanner that is pretty impressive and I use Paint.NET software for the final touches. Any advice for the Devil Dog? Thank you in advanced!
