UNIX Vandalism
editThis is 68.205.3.225. I didn't vandalize that page, I found it vandalized and removed the erroneous section. If you were the original vandal, well... you know my IP address; I issue you the challenge to hack any of the Linux machines attached to this IP. :)
Cat
editWhy does it matter if the color of the box around the cat is pink. I was just trying to change the color.
Edit Summary
editAlso, please write an edit summary for each entry you make. It helps other users know what changes you have made and why. Kukini 15:09, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

Substituting templates
editWhen using template tags on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use {{subst:test}} instead of {{test}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template. -Whomp 16:33, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
- Hmm...Didn't know about that. Thanks for telling me. --Blackjack48 16:37, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
Articles you might like to edit, from SuggestBot
editSuggestBot predicts that you will enjoy editing some of these articles. Have fun!
SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. Your contributions make Wikipedia better -- thanks for helping.
If you have feedback on how to make SuggestBot better, please tell me on SuggestBot's talk page. Thanks from ForteTuba, SuggestBot's caretaker.
P.S. You received these suggestions because your name was listed on the SuggestBot request page. If this was in error, sorry about the confusion. -- SuggestBot 13:09, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
Your Bot Request
editcould you clarify what you wanted? My bot is already doing cleanup, but I could expand to more if you tell me what you're interested in. Please respond on my talk. Regards, Alphachimp talk 17:29, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
- Hmm. I can easily do anything related to finding and replacing, if that's what you're refering to. I'm afraid that I still don't quite understand. Check out my bot's edits to see what it's doing right now with cleanup (don't worry about the subst'ing). Alphachimp talk 23:30, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
Ice cream?
editHey... you started the Ice Cream wikiproject, but I haven't seen you around it lately. I've been doing quite a bit of work, but it's sort of lonely without any help (or at least encouragement). Care to step up? JesseW, the juggling janitor 08:51, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for adding those flavor lists; could I trouble you to source them? I presume they came from the official websites - just drop me a link with their URL, and I'll put the proper reference templates in. Or you could do it yourself. JesseW, the juggling janitor 07:33, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
Don't the US participate in the funny game called world?
editHi,
I've been 84.160.3.23 who did the changes and merge proposals at 2006 United States heat wave, 2006 Australia heat wave and 2006 European heat wave. I'm just curious why the US heat waves justify their own article (removed merge template) while Europe and Australia still should be merged? I'd have understood if you would have removed the australian template considering the southern hemispheres heat wave has been half a year ago but otherwise I can't follow your thoughts... -- Edao 17:05, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Peer review: San Francisco, California
editSince you nominated the San Francisco, California article for FA (which it failed), I thought you might be interested in helping improve it. I submitted the article for peer review, and two editors (so far) have been kind enough to make a number (!) of suggestions. If you have time to work through a few of the problems it would be a great help!--Paul 01:52, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

Edits to my user page
editThank you for reverting the vandalism to my wikipedia user page. I appreciate it. Zchris87v 04:50, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
Incorrect reference conversion
editRegarding this edit; I reverted it because the "reference" you converted was actually a footnote. It used the "{{ref|xxx}}/{{note|xxx}}" mechanism because the "<ref>/<references />" technique was already in use for the actual references/citation list.
I don't know if this was the original intent behind the separate mechanisms, but there seems to be no other way to keep separate footnotes and reference lists (which shouldn't be mixed).
RfA thanks
editI'd like to express my huge thanks to you, Blackjack48, for your support in my recent RfA, which closed with 100% support at 71/0/1. Needless to say, I am very suprised at the huge levels of support I've seen on my RfA, and at the fact that I only had give three answers, unlike many other nominees who have had many, many more questions! I'll be careful with my use of the tools, and invite you to tell me off if I do something wrong! Thanks, Martinp23 14:58, 18 November 2006 (UTC) |

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Maxridebook.jpg
editThanks for uploading Image:Maxridebook.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 17:49, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Usrlogo.gif)
editThanks for uploading Image:Usrlogo.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 04:31, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Hansen Natural
editA tag has been placed on Hansen Natural requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company or corporation, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for companies and corporations.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. WebHamster 09:42, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
Itex
editA tag has been placed on Itex, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:
Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}}
on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. 86.29.243.103 (talk) 14:21, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
Wikipedia Campus Ambassador needed
editHi! My name is Annie Lin - I'm the Campus Team Coordinator at the Wikimedia Foundation. I'm contacting you because you're listed as a resident of San Francisco, and we're currently looking for a friendly Wikipedian to teach students in a University of San Francisco class how to use/edit Wikipedia. This is a role titled the "Wikipedia Campus Ambassador," and you'll basically be doing in-class presentations about Wikipedia, running Wikipedia labs/workshops, and in general providing face-to-face Wikipedia help for the professor and the students in the class. The time commitment is about 3-5 hours a week (with variations throughout the semester), and for this particular University of San Francisco class, most of the workload will be between March and May.
Please let me know if you're interested!
Thanks. Annie Lin (Campus Team Coordinator, Wikimedia Foundation) (talk) 18:55, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

Watchlist improvements
editI personally use these very useful scripts (User:js/watchlist.js, User:Markhurd/hidetopcontrib.js), which certainly could be made default.
In addition, I'd like the ability to have an 'ignore' list (ability to ignore specific users and bots), as well as the ability to add all the page contained in a category to my watchlist, with a single-click (watch entire category). Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
