Barnstars
editBlueMoonset, if this is a week-long project, do we really expect someone to do 50 reviews? Even 30 seems excessive. Yoninah (talk) 11:17, 21 June 2020 (UTC)
- Yoninah, thanks for the query. It seemed like seven a day might be possible; if no one does it, then no one gets the award. (Though we may not want to encourage such large numbers lest there be attempts at speed at the expense of quality.) I thought it made sense to set up the structure in case we decided to stretch it in mid-run. But we could cap the barnstar number at 30 (a hair over four per day average). We could change the second column from 20, 30, 40, 50 to 15, 20, 25, 30, which would keep the same number of barnstars, but put the levels closer together to encourage people to try for the next level wherever they are. Do you think 15 is too many for the non-full category's second level? We could make it 10 or 12. BlueMoonset (talk) 16:15, 21 June 2020 (UTC)
- I think 10 sounds reasonable. Someone who's doing that many is bound to complete some reviews and not have to wait for nominators to get back to him.
- I'm also wondering why you're using standard barnstars as awards. Wouldn't it be nice to design a special flag, badge, or box for each award level? Yoninah (talk) 17:14, 21 June 2020 (UTC)
- Yoninah, I'm basing this on what I've seen before at GAN and GOCE backlog drives and blitzes, and using their relative levels as guidelines as well. It works there, in terms of encouraging editors to participate, so I thought it would work here. I'm certainly not up to (nor interested in) designing special awards. I'll change the levels as I suggested above, including the 10. BlueMoonset (talk) 21:13, 23 June 2020 (UTC)
- OK, thanks. Yoninah (talk) 21:58, 23 June 2020 (UTC)

no qpq
editBold move! I wonder how that'll play out? —valereee (talk) 17:02, 25 June 2020 (UTC)
- valereee, there's no point in running this if these aren't reviews above and beyond the QPQ requirement, since QPQs only balance out new nominations, and then not even all of them, since some users don't need to do QPQs, and others do their reviews but end up proposing an ALT hook, so someone else has to come in. Since similar ventures have proved effective in the GAN and GOCE spaces, in terms of getting people to volunteer to do reviews/copyedits when they aren't required to, I'm hoping it will work here. If we don't get many people willing to do extra reviews, then at least we've tried. I think it will work to decrease the number of unapproved nominations; the only question is whether it's a small, medium, or large decrease. My hope is that we'll get a decrease of at least 50 over the nine days, which seems within the realm of possibility, but even half that would be an improvement. - I'm rooting for you! :) —valereee (talk) 17:54, 26 June 2020 (UTC)
Postponed
editYoninah, valereee, Cwmhiraeth, things have been unusually busy here, and I just haven't had time to work on this, so it won't be ready to start in 21 minutes as I'd originally planned, nor will I have the necessary time to check the submitted reviews. I've pushed it back by a week on the page, but I'm thinking it might be better to push it back by two, since the 11th through 19th period is likely to still be as busy. We're up to over 251 unapproved nominations, but at one set a day, the 79 that are approved (a number that has been growing) will keep us going until I can get this off the ground. I apologize for the delay. BlueMoonset (talk) 23:43, 3 July 2020 (UTC)
- No worries, there's no particular benefit to doing it at any particular date, I don't think. I'm just happy someone wants to do all the involved work! :) —valereee (talk) 12:36, 4 July 2020 (UTC)
- No problem. I thought that real life might have intervened. We do have enough approved noms to get us by, and the one set a day seems to move very slowly. I would like to start doing more reviews, though. Best, Yoninah (talk) 18:56, 4 July 2020 (UTC)
Postpone again?
editWe're now at 150 approved nominations, and the Approved page tends to gum up in the 180 to 200 range, so now might not be the best time to run a blitz. If you don't mind, I think I'm going to postpone again—the coming week looks to be busier than I thought, and we're down from a high of 245 to 250 unapproved nominations down to around 160. I'll take another look late next week, but at this point I'm thinking the first full week of August, and seven or eight days rather than nine. Pinging all three of you again: Yoninah, valereee, and Cwmhiraeth. Thanks for your patience! BlueMoonset (talk) 19:09, 17 July 2020 (UTC)
- BlueMoonset, whatever works for you! —valereee (talk) 19:15, 17 July 2020 (UTC)
- That's fine by me too. I have been doing some extra reviews and other people must have been doing some too. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 19:34, 17 July 2020 (UTC)
- Agreed. There's been a blitz of reviews lately so we have plenty to choose from to build prep sets. When we were down to 70 approved (which doesn't necessarily mean all are ready) it was starting to get tight. Yoninah (talk) 18:24, 18 July 2020 (UTC)

As Cwmhiraeth and Yoninah have pointed out, the need now is for reviews. Maybe do a short blitz? —valereee (talk) 13:45, 26 August 2020 (UTC)
