If you think an edit I have made is incorrect, please do not assume it is deliberate. My own perception that I am completely infailable is unfortunately to my great annoyance incorrect. I do make mistakes. Ask me about them, fix them or discuss on the talk page. Assuming that I'm violating wikipedia's policies on purpose will be regarded as Troll like behaviour - and any such comments will be removed without discussion, thanks and Happy Editing. In July 2015 around 15.5% of the English Wikipedia's biographies were about women. As of July 2023, 19.61% of the English Wikipedia's biographies are about women. That's a lot of biographies created in the effort to close the gender gap. Happy 8th Anniversary! Join us for some virtual cake and add comments or memories and please keep on editing to close the gap! |

Septermber GOCE newsletter
editGuild of Copy Editors September 2023 Newsletter
Hello and welcome to the September 2023 newsletter, a quarterly digest of Guild activities since June. Don't forget you can unsubscribe at any time; see below. David Thomsen: Prolific Wikipedian and Guild member David Thomsen (Dthomsen8) died in November 2022. He was a regular copy editor who took part in many of our Drives and Blitzes. An obituary was published in the mid-July issue of The Signpost. Tributes can be left on David's talk page. Election news: In our mid-year Election of Coordinators, Dhtwiki was chosen as lead coordinator, Miniapolis and Zippybonzo continue as assistant coordinators, and Baffle gab1978 stepped down from the role. If you're interested in helping out at the GOCE, please consider nominating yourself for our next election in December; it's your WikiProject and it doesn't organize itself! June Blitz: Of the 17 editors who signed up for our June Copy Editing Blitz, 12 copy-edited at least one article. 70,035 words comprising 26 articles were copy-edited. Barnstars awarded are here. July Drive: 34 of the 51 editors who took part in our July Backlog Elimination Drive copy-edited at least one article. They edited 276 articles and 683,633 words between them. Barnstars awarded are here. August Blitz: In our August Copy Editing Blitz, 13 of the 16 editors who signed up worked on at least one article. Between them, they copy-edited 79,608 words comprising 57 articles. Barnstars awarded are available here. September Drive: Sign up here for our month-long September Backlog Elimination Drive, which is now underway. Barnstars awarded will be posted here. Progress report: As of 14:29, 9 September 2023 (UTC), GOCE copy editors have processed 245 requests since 1 January. The backlog of tagged articles stands at 2,066. Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators, Dhtwiki, Miniapolis and Zippybonzo. New pages patrol newsletter
editHello Bogger,
Backlog update: At the time of this message, there are 11,300 articles and 15,600 redirects awaiting review. This is the highest backlog in a long time. Please help out by doing additional reviews!
October backlog elimination drive: A one-month backlog drive for October will start in one week! Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled. Articles will earn 4x as many points compared to redirects. You can sign up here.
PageTriage code upgrades: Upgrades to the PageTriage code, initiated by the NPP open letter in 2022 and actioned by the WMF Moderator Tools Team in 2023, are ongoing. More information can be found here. As part of this work, the Special:NewPagesFeed now has a new version in beta! The update leaves the NewPagesFeed appearance and function mostly identical to the old one, but updates the underlying code, making it easier to maintain and helping make sure the extension is not decommissioned due to maintenance issues in the future. You can try out the new Special:NewPagesFeed here - it will replace the current version soon.
Notability tip: Professors can meet WP:PROF #1 by having their academic papers be widely cited by their peers. When reviewing professor articles, it is a good idea to find their Google Scholar or Scopus profile and take a look at their h-index and number of citations. As a very rough rule of thumb, for most fields, articles on people with a h-index of twenty or more, a first-authored paper with more than a thousand citations, or multiple papers each with more than a hundred citations are likely to be kept at AfD.
Reviewing tip: If you would like like a second opinion on your reviews or simply want another new page reviewer by your side when patrolling, we recommend pair reviewing! This is where two reviewers use Discord voice chat and screen sharing to communicate with each other while reviewing the same article simultaneously. This is a great way to learn and transfer knowledge.
Reminders:
- You can access live chat with patrollers on the New Page Patrol Discord.
- Consider adding the project discussion page to your watchlist.
- To opt out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

Re your June 20th, 2023 edit of Athlone Town A.F.C.
editIn response to being notified of a damaging falsehood and asked who you were working for, you did not correct the record and instead doubled down on the falsehood by adding a link which attempts to conflate my identity with the proprietor of Molloy's bakery in Roscommon. Harpozep (talk) 16:23, 30 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Harpozep: "In response to being notified of a damaging falsehood" - apologies, honestly, I did not see that notification. The use of "businessman" was a (not totally surprising) leap on my part, based on this Declan Molloy being a "majority shareholder in Athlone Stadium Ltd" (from the Irish Times article) with "Ltd.", I assumed implying some sort of business. "who you were working for" I have no conflict of interest on this subject, I just added some information reported about Athlone Town A.F.C. into the article about Athlone Town A.F.C. If the "Declan Molloy" mentioned is a different person, I can remove same. (done). Given that you believe you have some conflict of interest in making corrections to this article, I believe you can request specific changes on point of fact under the process described at Wikipedia:Edit requests. In the mean time, three sources I gave cited some sort of an issue with the stadium and it's ownership, so I believe it is noteworthy in the history of the club.-Bogger (talk) 21:11, 30 September 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you Bogger for your reply, which I now accept as evidence of an honest misunderstanding. Your assumption was based on your not knowing about my company Athlone Town Stadium Ltd., which is not a business but a charitable purposes company which (lawfully) holds or (legally) held ownership of the stadium on behalf of the people of Athlone. I and my fellow directors and shareholders have never received any remuneration for doing this. Since the courts' intervention, the members of the company which currently holds the stadium have paid themselves (their own figures, from accounts) E225,000 (almost certainly a minimum of E375,000 if the past two years are included) with E115,561 part paid and pending from the members' claimed loans to that company. The use of businessman on Wikipedia feeds into the smears these same people make about me, that I was trying to make money from the stadium. I am not interested in editing, but if you are keen to correct the record then the following may be of interest: There never was an Athlone Town Association Football Club. Athlone Association FC was founded in 1887 and was replaced around 1989 (the FAI kept it very quiet) by Athlone Town Football Club. The latter club ran concurrently with an Athlone Town Athletic FC (founded in 2016 and 70% owned by the match fixing syndicate Pre Season, which also laundered money through a company called Callaview Ltd.) until its demise in 2018 or 2019. It is not known if AT Athletic FC still exists, but the 2021 accounts of Athlone Town AFC CLG claim that there is now a club called Athlone Town Associated FC, which I assume to be the club currently playing in the League of Ireland (the FAI is refusing to tell us what it is called). The newest club is almost certainly majority owned by an American company called Valeo Futbol Club Inc. Valeo was founded by and controlled by Emelio Williams, who is similarly involved in Outlier Biopharma. 93.107.16.33 (talk) 12:33, 1 October 2023 (UTC)
- if I can find secondary sources for these additions I'll add them to the article. -Bogger (talk) 12:37, 1 October 2023 (UTC)
- Music to my ears, though it will be hard to get anywhere on the names - the 'A' in AFC covers a multitude of sins. Forgot to include, a company called Dama Management Ltd. was also used for laundering purposes. Good luck Bogger. 93.107.16.33 (talk) 13:19, 1 October 2023 (UTC)

Autopatrolled right granted
editHi Bogger, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the autopatrolled user right to your account. This means that pages you create will automatically be marked as 'reviewed', and no longer appear in the new pages feed. Autopatrolled is assigned to prolific creators of articles, where those articles do not require further review, and may have been requested on your behalf by someone else. It doesn't affect how you edit; it is used only to manage the workload of new page patrollers.
Since the articles you create will no longer be systematically reviewed by other editors, it is important that you maintain the high standard you have achieved so far in all your future creations. Please also try to remember to add relevant WikiProject templates, stub tags, categories, and incoming links to them, if you aren't already in the habit; user scripts such as Rater and StubSorter can help with this. As you have already shown that you have a strong grasp of Wikipedia's core content policies, you might also consider volunteering to become a new page patroller yourself, helping to uphold the project's standards and encourage other good faith article writers.
Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! Ϫ 08:15, 12 October 2023 (UTC)

Redirects with Wikidata items
editHi Bogger! I noticed you’d created some redirects linked to Wikidata items (e.g. Bremen Six, Community Foundation for Ireland, Scout Foundation NI). I just wanted to leave you a quick message to let you know about a couple of things:
- It looks like your redirects have been tagged with {{Wikidata redirect}}. While (I believe) this used to work for hard redirects, this now redirects to {{Soft redirect with Wikidata item}}, and is only intended for use with soft redirects — {{R with Wikidata item}} is the hard redirect equivalent.
- I saw that you’d also created Wikidata items for the new redirects (e.g. d:Q123668143, d:Q123531401, d:Q123516484), and passed the Q-identifiers as parameters to {{Wikidata redirect}}. I just wanted to let you know that this on its own doesn’t link the redirect to Wikidata - to be connected, the redirect needs to be added as a sitelink to the Wikidata item itself (using the ‘intentional sitelink to redirect’ badge).
I’m sorry if any of this came across as condescending — that’s definitely not how I’m intending it, but I’ve found that I’m not always the best at wording things. If you have any questions about anything I’ve said then please feel free to ask.
All the best user:A smart kittenmeow 15:10, 6 December 2023 (UTC)
- In truth, "wikidata redirect" is the shortest template link I could remember to tie a <"not yet an article but definitely a thing" redirect to a thing best related to the not-yet-article>, to wikidata, so that some future person/me, when creating that article, might have some facts/data to work with.
- also, in truth, the text in the template "Use this template only on hard redirects – for soft redirects use {{Soft redirect with Wikidata item}}." reads terribly. "hard redirects", is a piped link to to soft redirects, witch start with a bolded link to soft redirects somewhere else, and is defined as not-hard redirects, so upon reading that I wasn't best motivated to tick the right boxes as to when to use soft or hard.
- So, from now on I will use {{[[Template:R with Wikidata item|R with Wikidata item]]}}, and if I use it incorrectly, a bot can clean up after me :).
- If that makes sense..?
- -Bogger (talk) 21:38, 6 December 2023 (UTC)
- (I've also just learned that the Visual editor is a mess to work with in writing replies as the cursor jumps up to preceing lines/sections on a whim.) -Bogger (talk) 21:40, 6 December 2023 (UTC)

Castletown-Kilpatrick
editHi. I had intended to say so yesterday, but got a bit distracted by some noise. Nice work on the Castletown-Kilpatrick article. I continue to be surprised that, though we have titles on some very small townlands (scarcely encompassing single fields and containing no people/buildings/ruins/geo-features/etc), we're still "missing" articles on established towns and villages. That well-sourced start/stub is a great addition and fills a gap which (in hindsight) is conspicuous by its absence. Nice one. (FYI - I was hoping to help by adding a decent infobox image of the village proper. But Geograph, for once, has "let me down" :) ) Guliolopez (talk) 12:04, 6 March 2024 (UTC)

New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024
editHello Bogger,
Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.
Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.
Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.
It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!
2023 Awards
Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!
WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.
Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.
Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.
Reminders:
- You can access live chat with patrollers on the New Pages Patrol Discord.
- Consider adding the project discussion page to your watchlist.

New Catagory - Squares and ball games
editHi B, I've created a new category Category:Squares and ball games after seeing the category Category:Wall and ball games.
There are 3 items in the category so far. These are games played on a Squares grid on the ground. I'd appreciate help on:
- whether I have created the category properly in the first place
- Categories for discussion/Log/2024 July 25#Category:Squares and ball games which is happening now and I am very much out of my depth in responding to questions.
For further context, I chose Squares as a broader category that encompasses four, nine squares courts and for games such as Hopscotch that utilise a Squares grid but are not ball games. Thanks & regards Rockycape (talk) 13:02, 26 July 2024 (UTC)
