Recent changes
- Over the next three weeks, dark mode will become available for all users, both logged-in and logged-out, starting with the mobile web version. This fulfils one of the top-requested community wishes, and improves low-contrast reading and usage in low-light settings. As part of these changes, dark mode will also work on User-pages and Portals. There is more information in the latest Web team update. [1]
- Logged-in users can now set global preferences for the text-size and dark-mode, thanks to a combined effort across Foundation teams. This allows Wikimedians using multiple wikis to set up a consistent reading experience easily, for example by switching between light and dark mode only once for all wikis. [2]
- If you use a very old web browser some features might not work on the Wikimedia wikis. This affects Internet Explorer 11 and versions of Chrome, Firefox and Safari older than 2016. This change makes it possible to use new CSS features and to send less code to all readers. [3][4]
- Wikipedia Admins can customize local wiki configuration options easily using Community Configuration. Community Configuration was created to allow communities to customize how some features work, because each language wiki has unique needs. At the moment, admins can configure Growth features on their home wikis, in order to better recruit and retain new editors. More options will be provided in the coming months. [5]
- Editors interested in language issues that are related to Unicode standards, can now discuss those topics at a new conversation space in MediaWiki.org. The Wikimedia Foundation is now a member of the Unicode Consortium, and the coordination group can collaboratively review the issues discussed and, where appropriate, bring them to the attention of the Unicode Consortium.
- One new wiki has been created: a Wikipedia in Mandailing (
w:btm:) [6]

- Editors can once again click on links within the visual editor's citation-preview, thanks to a bug fix by the Editing Team. [7]

Request reason:
This was not a 3RR violation. Those edits were vandalism and exempt per WP:3RRE. My attention was originally brought to that article because an edit the user made was flagged as a Copypatrol copyvio. I have never visited the page before today; I had no intention of starting a content dispute and have always tried to follow WP:1RR. They were vandalising the page by pasting in large Bible quotes to the dab page. This was apparently not the first time the page had been vandalized in this manner (see [8][9][10]). I assume the previous times were by the same user on different accounts/IPs. The rest of their edits were standard opinion-based vandalism: replacing ([11][12][13][14]) the generic disambiguation mention with their own analysis and commentary. Just look at their edit summaries: "Stop bullying me, and stop reverting what im writing which is the actual truth, stop being hard headed! if you dont stop im gonna report you!" I'll admit, the last few were not as contentious as the rest (only replacing/underlining one word), but given the rest of their edits these were obviously unconstructive. They were not willing to do anything about it. They just kept making change after change with edit sumamries saying they're "spreading the truth" etc. C F A 💬 02:17, 8 July 2024 (UTC)

Not a fan of their rather pointy edit summaries, but how much of an "in universe" description of "mark of the beast" to use is certainly a legitimate content dispute (and I take your side here as easily the stronger one) and not obvious vandalism. The exception isn't for all bad edits. And even if we accept that it is clearly vandalism, for the sake of argument, I can't come close to the opinion that the one-word change of "mark" and "symbol" is clearly vandalism. An admin may not rule on this as it's a very short block, but I'd suggest just waiting the day and being a bit more careful in similar situations in the future. The first two edits may be copyright violations, but the following 11 reverts you made do not meet any of the exemptions listed at WP:3RRNO, even if the changes were misguided and needed reversion. Also, as specified in the policy: If you are claiming an exemption, make sure there is a clearly visible edit summary or separate section of the talk page that explains the exemption. When in doubt, do not revert.
In the future, instead of edit warring or violating 3RR, please consider take a break from editing the article, try to engage in a discussion with the other editor on the talk page or their user talk page, and if the edit is that bad, someone else will come along to revert it. Recent changes
- At the Wikimedia Foundation a new task force was formed to replace the disabled Graph with more secure, easy to use, and extensible Chart. You can subscribe to the newsletter to get notified about new project updates and other news about Chart.
- The CampaignEvents extension is now available on Meta-wiki, Igbo Wikipedia, and Swahili Wikipedia, and can be requested on your wiki. This extension helps in managing and making events more visible, giving Event organizers the ability to use tools like the Event registration tool. To learn more about the deployment status and how to request this extension for your wiki, visit the CampaignEvents page on Meta-wiki.
- Editors using the iOS Wikipedia app who have more than 50 edits can now use the Add an Image feature. This feature presents opportunities for small but useful contributions to Wikipedia.
- Thank you to all of the authors who have contributed to MediaWiki Core. As a result of these contributions, the percentage of authors contributing more than 5 patches has increased by 25% since last year, which helps ensure the sustainability of the platform for the Wikimedia projects.
Problems
- A problem with the color of the talkpage tabs always showing as blue, even for non-existent pages which should have been red, affecting the Vector 2022 skin, has been fixed.
Future changes
- The Trust and Safety Product team wants to introduce temporary accounts with as little disruption to tools and workflows as possible. Volunteer developers, including gadget and user-script maintainers, are kindly asked to update the code of their tools and features to handle temporary accounts. The team has created documentation explaining how to do the update. Learn more.

- @Virtualiter: That's fine. I tagged the article for {{one source}} before I saw it was a translation. It just means the article only has one reference. Since you appear to still be working on it, I suggest you add a {{under construction}} tag so other editors know it is still a work in progress. I assume you're referring to the language of the sources: the language does not matter as long as it accurately verifies the information. If you're using a {{cite}} template, you can use the

- @Afghan1235: The entire article was copied from https://www.academia.edu/4335943/THE_OTHER_SIDE_OF_THE_MOUNTAIN_Mujahideen_Tactics_in_the_Soviet_Afghan_War. Removing the copyright violations without deleting the entire article would've just amounted to blanking the page, which is essentially the same thing. - @Afghan1235: 1976 Afghan coup d'état was copied without attribution from Mir Ahmad Shah Rizwani. I have left you the appropriate notice on your talk page. Battle of Nalos (1947) was evidently written entirely using AI with little to no review afterwards. It is not worded neutrally (ex: "their actions during this period are emblematic of the broader Kurdish struggle for autonomy and resistance against external domination") and I have not checked for factual accuracy. Battle of Bagh (1919) is very-closely paraphrased from https://books.google.ca/books?id=1XvKDwAAQBAJ and some senteces have just been completely copied (ex: "British casualties were eight killed and 31 wounded, while Afghan losses were about 100 killed and 300 wounded"). This whole ordeal seems very suspicious to me so unless you give me a convincing reason as to why you claim to have created the articles (when they were actually created by a blocked account), I will file a case at either WP:SPI or WP:ANI. About the Superwoman page
All the Superwomen characters don't have nuclear or radiation abilities, aren't psychics, and can't teleport, but three of the characters do have solar abilities. The external links on it doesn't work anymore and one of them is not secured. 172.13.193.84 (talk) 15:15, 11 July 2024 (UTC)
- I suppose you are able to remove (or replace) the external links because they are probably in violation of WP:ELNO (a wiki and a blog). I do not recommend removing categories without discussing on the talk page because they were evidently added there for a reason. Change it into research interpretation, because its more neutral. There is no so-called evidence here, the sources have the author's personal interpretation of the Chinese material. The original text does not have any clear evidence of those conclusions, only sure thing is that her name was mulan by text. Lissa Schneckenburger draftification
Hi CFA — I noticed that you draftified Lissa Schneckenburger (created by Wings Commander) when you patrolled it with NPP, claiming that it needs more sources to establish notability
. The four sources that were present right after the first sentence — [1][2][3][4] — are to my reading clearly enough to meet the NARTIST/GNG standards, so I am reverting the move.
Please remember that NPP is about quality, not quantity, and it is always okay to slow down when needed. Unjustified draftifications damage the encyclopedia, both in terms of lost content and in terms of biting the article creators, so we want to minimize them as much as possible.

- I do not believe, based on the sources in the article and a BEFORE, that the subject meets GNG. They are mostly, local, routine WP:INTERVIEWS. The Rutland Herald source is the best available, and I suppose the Bluegrass United is short but gets the job done, but the other sources are interviews with little coverage outside of the transcript. - First of all, welcome to Wikipedia, Sir Grodus II! Unfortunately if a claim cannot be verified by a reliable source, it is not suitable for inclusion in a Wikipedia article. One of Wikiedia's core content policies is verifiability. YouTube is generally considered an unreliable source because it is user-generated content. Recent changes
Wikimedia developers can now officially continue to use both Gerrit and GitLab, due to a June 24 decision by the Wikimedia Foundation to support software development on both platforms. Gerrit and GitLab are both code repositories used by developers to write, review, and deploy the software code that supports the MediaWiki software that the wiki projects are built on, as well as the tools used by editors to create and improve content. This decision will safeguard the productivity of our developers and prevent problems in code review from affecting our users. More details are available in the Migration status page.- The Wikimedia Foundation seeks applicants for the Product and Technology Advisory Council (PTAC). - Editors with rollback user-rights who use the Wikipedia App for Android can use the new Edit Patrol features. These features include a new feed of Recent Changes, related links such as Undo and Rollback, and the ability to create and save a personal library of user talk messages to use while patrolling. If your wiki wants to make these features available to users who do not have rollback rights but have reached a certain edit threshold, you can contact the team. - Editors who have access to The Wikipedia Library can once again use non-open access content in SpringerLinks, after the Foundation contacted them to restore access. You can read more about this and 21 other community-submitted tasks that were completed last week.
Changes later this week
- This week, dark mode will be available on a number of Wikipedias, both desktop and mobile, for logged-in and logged-out users. Interface admins and user script maintainers are encouraged to check gadgets and user scripts in the dark mode, to find any hard-coded colors and fix them. There are some recommendations for dark mode compatibility to help.
Future changes
- Next week, functionaries, volunteers maintaining tools, and software development teams are invited to test the temporary accounts feature on testwiki. Temporary accounts is a feature that will help improve privacy on the wikis. No further temporary account deployments are scheduled yet. Please share your opinions and questions on the project talk page. [15]
- Editors who upload files cross-wiki, or teach other people how to do so, may wish to join a Wikimedia Commons discussion. The Commons community is discussing limiting who can upload files through the cross-wiki upload/Upload dialog feature to users auto-confirmed on Wikimedia Commons. This is due to the large amount of copyright violations uploaded this way. There is a short summary at Commons:Cross-wiki upload and discussion at Commons:Village Pump.

Across the River & Into the Trees Movie
You have undone some information on our movie which cost us a lot of money to make. The film is a 2024 film that is when it gets its release in the industry film is calculated on its release it was still being finished until quite recently . Please change it back to 2024 movie as it doesn't get released at all the end of August of this year. I have corrected a mistake it did not premiere at the Sun Valley Film Festival it was a festival preview which is used for marketing purposes. It doesn't get its release until August the 30th. - Because you said this is "your movie". If you work for them and are being compensated, it is a form of paid editing. Either way, you are connected to the subject and it is still a conflict of interest that has to be disclosed appropriately. - Stewards can now globally block accounts. Before the change only IP addresses and IP ranges could be blocked globally. Global account blocks are useful when the blocked user should not be logged out. Global locks (a similar tool logging the user out of their account) are unaffected by this change. The new global account block feature is related to the Temporary Accounts project, which is a new type of user account that replaces IP addresses of unregistered editors that are no longer made public.
- Later this week, Wikimedia site users will notice that the Interface of FlaggedRevs (also known as "Pending Changes") is improved and consistent with the rest of the MediaWiki interface and Wikimedia's design system. The FlaggedRevs interface experience on mobile and Minerva skin was inconsistent before it was fixed and ported to Codex by the WMF Growth team and some volunteers. [16]
- Wikimedia site users can now submit account vanishing requests via GlobalVanishRequest. This feature is used when a contributor wishes to stop editing forever. It helps you hide your past association and edit to protect your privacy. Once processed, the account will be locked and renamed. [17]
- Have you tried monitoring and addressing vandalism in Wikipedia using your phone? A Diff blog post on Patrolling features in the Mobile App highlights some of the new capabilities of the feature, including swiping through a feed of recent changes and a personal library of user talk messages for use when patrolling from your phone.
- Wikimedia contributors and GLAM (galleries, libraries, archives, and museums) organisations can now learn and measure the impact Wikimedia Commons is having towards creating quality encyclopedic content using the Commons Impact Metrics analytics dashboard. The dashboard offers organizations analytics on things like monthly edits in a category, the most viewed files, and which Wikimedia articles are using Commons images. - @Gabriela Jatene: Hi, yes, a Grammy nomination is enough to meet the notability guidelines for musicians, specifically criteria #8. Notability is not really an issue here. Your sources are why I declined your draft. Because this is a biography of a living person, it is especially important that all claims are cited and can be verified to reliable sources. Bandcamp and Medium are both unreliable sources because they are self-published, user-generated content. A lot of your claims relating to his books are cited directly to the publishers' websites, which are primary sources. That is not necessarily an issue in itself but it would be better if you could find some secondary coverage (i.e. reviews in reliable sources), especially for claims going beyond "he wrote this book". For example, the "Activity in the 20th century" section, which is 8 paragraphs long, doesn't have a single citation. It is not clear to reviewers where that information came from if you do not attach citations to the claims. Feel free to resubmit once you have resolved this. First, you should make sure to appropriately disclose your conflict of interest, and in this case it may actually be a financial conflict of interest with different instructions. As to uploading the photo, if you did not take it, you do not own the copyright to it. And I can see on the university's website that it says "COPYRIGHT 2024 DGIST. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.", which means using it on Wikipedia is violating copyright. You will have to find a suitably-licensed alternative or request that the photographer donate the image to Wikipedia. - @Rollinginhisgrave: Well, for starters, all the sources I listed are independent. There is no reason to believe any of them have any connection with the subject or have received any payment for publishing their articles. They all, save maybe The Stranger, meet WP:SIGCOV because they are all wholly about the subject. Some go especially in-depth; for example, The Seattle Times article is more than 900 words. It also meets WP:AUD because The Seattle Times is the largest newspaper in Washington, and thus qualifies as a regional outlet (
e.g., the biggest daily newspaper in any US state

- Similarly, wouldn't the consideration of audience for Seattle Times be who it is stated the article is written for ("covers the food scene in the neighborhoods around Seattle") rather than the whole of Washington?

- @Rollinginhisgrave: Yeah, you probably are right about Daily Coffee News. It looks like they do some type of advertising so I wouldn't be surprised if that was a promotional piece. We can count that as non-independent. WP:AUD is more of a "safety net" to catch otherwise-non-notable businesses that have only been covered in a few run-of-the-mill stories in small, local newspapers, like most local businesses have. This is a different case. These stories are not run-of-the-mill. They go in-depth about the café. The Seattle Times isn't a "small" newspaper by any means, either — it's the largest in the state. If it hadn't been covered in The Seattle Times, there might've been a better argument for it failing WP:AUD, since the other newspapers were mostly small, local ones. At the end of the day, in cases like this, voters will generally err on the site of keeping. People generally don't like deleting articles because of "technicalities" when there is little reason to.
- I used to avoid AfD like the plague up until a few months ago because of how confusing it was. Once I started participating, my first few didn't go so well either. I suggest going to today's AfD log and voting in a few that have had no votes yet, so you have to do most of the research/analysis yourself. That's how I learned. C F A 💬 14:56, 29 July 2024 (UTC)
- I think it sounds like what I have been considering SIGCOV is excessive, which I picked up from this convo. It's kind of hard for me to comprehend there's like 400 Wiki articles worth of notability to be written from just this one Seattle Times author's output from the last few years; I can't tell if that's liberating or demoralizing.
- Thanks for the tip on voting on recent discussions. Bit worried I'd be misapplying policies given today's mess. Might just stick to article creation for a while and hope I absorb through osmosis. But I'm really grateful for your help here. Rollinginhisgrave (talk) 15:26, 29 July 2024 (UTC)

Feature news
- Editors using the Visual Editor in languages that use non-Latin characters for numbers, such as Hindi, Manipuri and Eastern Arabic, may notice some changes in the formatting of reference numbers. This is a side effect of preparing a new sub-referencing feature, and will also allow fixing some general numbering issues in Visual Editor. If you notice any related problems on your wiki, please share details at the project talkpage.
Bugs status
- Some logged-in editors were briefly unable to edit or load pages last week. These errors were mainly due to the addition of new linter rules which led to caching problems. Fixes have been applied and investigations are continuing.
- Editors can use the IP Information tool to get information about IP addresses. This tool is available as a Beta Feature in your preferences. The tool was not available for a few days last week, but is now working again. Thank you to Shizhao for filing the bug report. You can read about that, and 28 other community-submitted tasks that were resolved last week.
Project updates
- There are new features and improvements to Phabricator from the Release Engineering and Collaboration Services teams, and some volunteers, including: the search systems, the new task creation system, the login systems, the translation setup which has resulted in support for more languages (thanks to Pppery), and fixes for many edge-case errors. - There is an update on the Charts project. The team has decided which visualization library to use, which chart types to start focusing on, and where to store chart definitions.

- @Royiswariii: The first thing I noticed was that Maloi (singer) is cited to a few unreliable sources. YouTube and Facebook are user-generated content and they should not be used as citations, especially in a biography of a living person. Consider finding some reliable, secondary coverage instead.
- As to whether the subject is notable on their own: I'm not sure. Musicians that are part of a group do not inherit notability from their group. They have to meet the notability guidelines for musicians individually. A lot of sources about her fall into two categories: Sources primarily focusing on the group and tabloid journalism. Sources that primarily focus on the group do not offer significant coverage of Maloi herself, and thus don't count towards notability. A lot of articles that are specifically about her (e.g. this preview.ph article) seem to be primarily tabloids that likely aren't reliable.
