Autoreview

Would you like to have the Autoreview right back? I noticed that you'd requested that it be withdrawn, no doubt due to an overwhelming feeling of ennui when you found that it really didn't do that much, but since you create a lot of new articles, it might spare the folks at NPP and would avoid some of the business noted above at Cleveland Athletic Club. It's reasonably clear that you're not going to write articles about your MySpace band, the Most Beautiful Girl in the World, or the Upper Peninsula War. My understanding of new page patrol is that it provides a venue to review and assist the construction of new articles while weeding out inappropriate submissions.

I enjoy having my articles reviewed and improved. I understand the concern that my article creations are flooding the system, so I'm willing to become an autoreviewer if that will benefit the project. But I don't relish the thought of getting special treatment, of avoiding the screening and occasional assistance that additional eyes on my article projects brings, or a diminshment of the excitement that comes with trying to ensure that article subjects survive the tagging and deletion barrage.

If my understanding of the purpose of new page patrol is mistaken, and its just about preventing hoaxes and garbage from getting into the encyclopedia, then I wonder how others will be encouraged to notice what I'm working on and help out? Where does the colelgial collaboration and cooperation come into play?

Again, I'm willing to wear the ignoble mark of an autoreviewer, but if given that dubious status I fully intend to promote as many myspace bands, local stand-up comedians, and weblogs as I can find, especially those of my own making. ChildofMidnight (talk) 19:50, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

I believe you have to get a tattoo on your forehead, so perhaps it might be best to decline after all. Personally, I tend to look at new pages that interest me regardless of whether they're yellow or white on the page and jump in where I have something constructive to offer. I understand your feelings on the subject, though, and appreciate your food, architecture and Cleveland-related articles (particularly the doughnuts), and your desire to have your writing reviewed. Just think how many fewer editors I'd meet if I wasn't getting all these messages asking me to become an autoreviewer! I agree about the doughnuts. That was some of my finest work. But there are photos coming for cookie salad and glorified rice, so the ringed and filled achievments may yet be bested by my work on Scandanavian American cuisine!!! (And there's a Broccoli salad article in the planning stages... it includes bacon!!!) And don't forget Strawberry delight. Surprisingly, the actual recipe food itself as prepared accoding to the established recipe is not something I desire to eat. But the concept is fairly awe inspiring. I prefer Willy Wonka's visions as opposed to concoctions buried in buttermilk and and various whipped cream substances. And what's with all the jello eating out there in the Midwest? Seven-layer salad minus the mayo is getting there. Bacon with spinach goes well. And salad frise with bacon is delightful. But no matter how fear inducing thier creations, we must admire the pioneers and innovators. And we all have different tastes I suppose. I'm a big fan of waffle cones and krumkake, so I appreciate the buffet approach to dining, picking and choosing items that I like from each cuisine. Anyone who pretends that the science and the solutions are resolved is a monkey. Seriously. There is a real debate, and it's not just academic. It's about what the impacts of climate change are and will be, how to prediect them and whether they can be predicted, how best to invest in the planet's and humanity's future, and whether attempting to deal with CO2, as opposed to other issues, is worthwhile or effective in any case.

Only a very primitive intellect thinks they already know everything about a subject as complicated as the climate, and only a fool thinks knowledge is advanced by silencing anyone who raises questions, disputes findings, or offers alternative viewpoints.

Amusing photo, slightly. But the earthquake in Haiti, the Tsunami, and the destructive wildfires we've seen suggest that empowering people with education, economic development, and infrastructure should be priority number one. Let the kooks rant on in their ivory towers. They haven't been right about anything yet, including their failure to warn of the impending financial crisis.

There is a two-way editing restriction for the nom and myself that we are not allowed to comment to or about each other. I don't see how voting in good faith in an AfD violates that, but there are so many trolls and disruptive characters running around, that it's just not worth it. Many of them have been coming after me for a long time, and being constantly attacked and smeared gets old after a while.

It's certainly unfortunate that the article may be deleted (and Perry Jones also), and I feel bad about not being in a good position to help try and keep it, but that's the way things are here on Wikipedia. There are lots of things that are messed up that I'm not in a position to do much about.

I also noticed that Grsz voted in that AfD but no others around the same time. It ceraintly looks like he was improperly canvassed, but maybe he has a reasonable explanation?

Anyway, I'm always sorry to see articles written in good faith about subjects that have been covered substantially in reliable independent sources get deleted, but as long as abuse like that engaged in by Bigtimepeace, Georgewilliamherbert and RD232 is allowed, it pays to be careful. I certainly hope that their aggressive pursuit of those they disagree with will be stopped, but there appears to be a cull in full swing of blocking and banning those who don't hold popular views here. That kind of jackbooted censorship is troubling, but I don't know what I can do about it. I've certainly been outspoken that intolerance and censorship is wrong and damaging. Take care. By numbers, the AfD looks like a "delete", but I hope the it gets closed as "no consensus" or "keep" since I see no policy-based reasons to disregard the ample coverage in reliable sources and delete that article. Community de-Adminship - finalization poll for the CDA proposal

After tolling up the votes in the revision proposals, it emerged that 5.4 had the most support, but elements of that support remained unclear, and various comments throughout the polls needed consideration.

A finalisation poll (intended, if possible, to be one last poll before finalising the CDA proposal) has been run to;

• gather opinion on the 'consensus margin' (what percentages, if any, have the most support) and

Arlington Hotel

No, the hotel is gone; the building in the center of the picture now occupies 722 Main Street. See its Ohio Historical Society profile page for a photo. Having walked along Main Street from the Y Bridge (where the numbering begins) to St. Nicholas' Church (in the 900 block), I can assure you that the building in the OHS picture is no longer in existence. This is common in downtown Zanesville, unfortunately — of the 25 NRHP listings downtown, 4 are destroyed; all 3 of the others have been converted into parking lots. By the way, you may have more pictures available than you expected: I just realised that I'd forgotten to add several pictures to the list that I took on the same day. What do you think of that article? I got started on it and User:Royalbroil got interested in it when I made a red link to row crop and found a whole bunch of sources for me. I was surprised at how much info there was; when I did a quick little Google search for sources I found none really but the definitions.

It seems to me that repeatedly pushing a boulder up a hill, only to have it roll back down again, is likely to bulk a person up rather than slim them down. I suppose it's a lot better than drinking cherry coke on the couch, but as with doing lots of squats and low reps with lots of weight at the gym, I'm not sure it's the best approach for a trim physique. What about a more balanced cardio approach? Instead of "running for Arbcom" we could have them RUN for Arbcom. I want to point out that since I started editng Wikipedia regularly I've quickly developed great strenght and stamina so that I'm now in the best shape of my life. Blocked

I have been blocked for responding to KimDabelsteinPetersen's ongoing assaults on Global Warming skeptic articles. I stated that:

Exposing your arguments as being specious and hypocritical is entirely relevant to stopping the BLP violating assaults that you and Connolley and others in your cabal have carried out. If you're serious about the sourcing standards that you're arguing for, then please apply them equally to all articles in this topic instead of gunning for subjects that you disagree with. You behavior is entirely inappropriate and enormously damaging to Wikipedia.

The issue was the repeated removal of large sections of sourced content, reverted by several editors. The deletion included removal a statement that Lawrence Solomon is a columnist for the National Post.

I have no idea why Stephan Shulz, Dabelstein, and Will Connolley have been allowed to continue their POV pushing rampage and are free to continue their efforts to disparage those they disagree with by the smearing them in their biographies. I have no objection to the inclusion of properly sourced criticism, but their use of innuendo and specious arguments in support of gutting content and coattracking in smears is unacceptable. It is very ironic that at a time when a deletion rampage against unreferenced biographies is going on these editors and their admin allies are allowed to violate our core principles and continue to abuse wikipedia for propaganda purposes.

I would also note that I was given no warning and no opportunity to amend my comment, if in fact there is soemthing objectionable about it. If someone felt it was inappropriate I would be happy to address that. But once again we have tool abuse by incompetent and dishonest admins who see themselves as being above the rules. Thanks for the support Grundle. No worries. I need to get some stuff done anyway. The claims of "personal attack" and "harassment" are bunk of course. But 2/0 has, unfortuntely (past experiences suggests he's a decent fellow) been quite active along with Jehochman in carrying out a reign of censorship against those with opinions they don't share. This abusive behavior is damaging to the encyclopedia and is anti-intellectualism of the worst kind, but not much different the Climategate nonsense we've seen. Dishonest, misleading, misinformation campaigns like these are very harmful to the pragmatic solutions to protect the environment, so it's pretty disheartening that somemthing I'm involved in, Wikipedia, is being abused to this extent. The dishonest manipulation of sources, the smearing, and the bullying cabalism are very discouraging. But the world is not a perfect place.

I agree with Jamie on this. Going over the articles and talk pages that CoM frequents, I see a hilarious double standard. People who are on one side of the argument are basically given free reign to behave however they want and while they are inconsistantly warned to be civil from time to time, they are rarely, if ever, held accountable. On the other hand, CoM has been blocked for a comment that is no more questionable than a dozen others on that same page (some made by admins) and I can't help but note that those people weren't blocked. It's an interesting parable. It's not clear to me how it applies to my comments or the circumstances being discussed though. Are unreferenced articles birds that aren't ready to fly south? Jimbo is a cow? How does that comport with my comment in which the ones getting dumped on are good faith contributors?

The claim that articles that have been here for years and only need references are at the core or even related to the BLP problem is the ultimate fantasy. I'm not sure where this delusion was born or why it's held so tightly, but forestalling the loss of so many good stubs is certainly worth advocating for over the appeasement of the misguided and confused. Is there a parable that captures that reality?

I don't really understand all the fuss about it, to be honest, although I think a less disruptive way would be to have some process parallel to a {{prod}} but one where the impending deletion can only be averted by sourcing. Deleting the articles first means only admins can realistically do a decent job at attempting to find sources, which reduces the pool of editors by too much. ^Bongo_matic 23:20, 24 January 2010 (UTC)

The claim that his COI problem has been refuted is obviously false. As far as diffs go, I'm willing to put in the effort to provide ADDITIONAL diffs, several have already been provided. Several editors have noted his incivility already and have provided diffs of his calling other editors incompetent, a clear personal attack, and of his abusive refactoring of comments, even after objections were made. Frankly, it's very hard for me to believe that you were unable to find the diffs where he refactored my comments on his talk page (where they occured is obvious). If you seriously can't find them and ask nicely instead of in a way that seems bullying, I will provide you with specific diffs that you are unable to find on your own, but typically I try to avoid wasting my time on wild goose chases when people are obviously unwilling to take appropriate action. You have so far failed to address whether an editor is allowed to refactor other editors' comments, even after objections are made, to interject their comments inside those of another's. You also reiterate an abhorrent and completely false allegation of harassment. My only edit to that editor's talk page was to notify them that there was a discussion about their abusive behavior. And the diff of the COI discussion you provided absolutely DOES NOT suggest in any way that those concerns have been "addressed". I hope you don't edit articles by misrepresenting sources in this way.

In addition to the diff of his refactoring I provided already provided, here is another diff that shows [8] an improper refactoring of my comment to include a misrepresentation that I made a personal attack. This behavior is not acceptable and violates WP:Civility. He did the same thing on the noticeboard.

The place to discuss these civility violations, the COI issues, and the abusive refactoring, is on the appropriate noticeboard where the community is looking into them. Instead, and despite my requests and respectful responses, you have continued to come after me in a way that is abusive and harassing, including repeatedly making false allegations and insinuations. I am well aware of what wikistalking and wikiharassment are about, because I have had to get Wikirestraining orders taken out on several editors who couldn't leave me alone.

It's often the case that when an editor's improper behavior is pointed out they attempt to retaliate. I'm not sure why you're aiding someone engaged in such obviously inappropriate conduct. I don't understand why you're coming after me instead of addressing their refactoring, referring to other editors as incompetents, and as needing spoon feeding, but I ask that you follow appropriate process in discussing the issues I've raised and other editors have supported with additional diffs in the approrpiate forum, instead of coming after me on my talk page in a harassing, bullying, and threatening manner. Most everyone knows that Will is short for William. this is common knowlege. This is a nonsensical distraction from his abusive behavior on a par with the Chewbacca defense. That editor's repeated abuse of his editing prileges, his personal attacks, his improper refactoring of other editors' comments, his COI issues, and his BLP violating assaults on article subjects he doesn't care for is my concern. Abusive behavior by William Connolley and Prodego

Anyone following the above discussion will note that Prodego repeatedly asked for more diffs (several were already provided). Since what I was citing was obvious on the pages under discussion, I had a feeling he was playing games, I've been through this kind of abuse before, but he persisted. So after his repeated requests I provided diffs, only to have him immediately close and collapse the discussion.

I don't know why he think it's important to obscure William Connolley's abusive behaviors as detailed below, but his actions are outrageous and sickening.

At a time when BLPs are such a hot subject, we continue to allow a pack of POV pushers to disparage biographies of article subjects they disagree with and to advocate and propagandize our climate articles.

This problem has been goin on for a long time. I think the diffs showing abusive refactoring, referring to other editors as incompetents needing spoon feeding, misreperesnting the comments of others, the making of false allegations are enough to warrant action, but here are some more examples per repeated requests for more evidence of William's abusive behavior.

• Here's one of his abusive talk pages titled "whinging" [12] Please note that if this is allowed I'm going to start a page on WMC with a diff noting that this kind of attack page was endorsed per this discussion. I don't want to be maligned in his talk space space and view this type of abuse as a clear example of his harassment and disruptive attempts to intimidate other editors.
• You are dense. Nevermind, I'm sure you'll get there in the end William M. Connolley (talk) 19:58, 27 October 2009 (UTC)

• And here's one of the many instances where he dishonestly refactors my comments to make it look like I made personal attack [15]. If he's allowed to do that then I expect I will be allowed to do the same to him when he doesn't use another editors full name.
• Here's an example where he uses his blog to engage in a personal feud with Lawrence Solomon [16]. Clearly this COI involvement in a dispute of this type should prevent him from editing related article subjects since his involvement is not neutral. The same issues are involved with his editing of climategate subjects because he was a named party in the RealClimate advocacy website where he had a biography page included (it might still be there, I haven't looked). Wikipedia should not be used as an extension of his personal and professional interests in advocating a certain point of view. I certainly hope this is obvious to the vast majority of editors here. Yes, and many of these articles have been here for years so they have been reviewed and edited by numerous editors other than the original creators. Some of the best written on Wikipedia aren't properly referenced, but that's fixable.

I understand the concerns over BLPs, but whether an article is referenced or not has nothing to do with whether it is being used to disparage or misrepresent someone, to undermine a business, or to advocate or propagandize a particular viewpoint. I support effective and pragmatic solutions, but throwing babies out with the bathwater isn't a good idea.

Ikip do you have a list of the unreferenced articles, I've chipped in on some and would be happy to chip in on others by adding references.

Anyone concerned about BLP violations should carefully consider the COI issues and POV pushing discussed above. Trying to get at the real problem of abusive editing and damaging content is a lot trickier than deleting stubby articles without looking at them or reviewing their contents. It probably labelled it because it is a small article, and thus the quote, and the last line, which is copy-and-pasted, make up a substantial amount of the article. It thus most likely meet some sort of threshold of "this % of the article is exact wording, so let's tag it". I suggest the quote be taken out, as rewording in such a small article is probably best, and reworking the last line. I've requested discussion regarding some new material I've added to the article under the Fannie Mae / Freddie Mac subheadings since it's been reverted a couple of times now, without discussion. Thank goodness! Now I can relax. Do you have an opinion on whether the size of a school should matter as far as notability? It's not my intention to be dismissive of Crusio's good faith concerns, but I don't know how we would establish a cut-off. It seems like a "leave no child behind" type of situation. Who's to say one student's educational institution is more notable than the smaller one attended by another based on the size of the student body? Or perhaps size does matter? What about a school graduating two students, or five, 7? (There's something to be said for lucky seven) I would like to point out that children of all colors are welcome at the ChildofMidnight School of Learning. Especially blues and greens. The title does not reflect the article contents. An effort was made to split off the controversy over the e-mails, but that was reverted. The present title is misleading as it addresses only the hacking, a small part of the coverage, and ignore the much bigger issue about what was in the e-mails and the ensuing controversy. I'm okay with having separate article on the hacking and the e-mails if that's the way to go, but we can't have a distorted article that is titled and stilted to address the hacking only as if the e-mails themselves aren't the center of the controversy and what makes the subject so notable. I think I'm done. I made a few changes that were great improvements without intorducing anything contentious. The only objection made was that there wasn't a consensus for the retitle and reorganization. This kind of intransigence is highly disruptive. The discussion should be about whether the changes are proper and reflect way the subject is covered in reliable independent sources (they did). There is a clear consensus amidst the talk page dispute that the article title and its contents don't adequately reflect the subject matter based on the way its been covered outside of Wikipedia, so I hope you'll work with me to fix it instead of engaging in reactionary reverting and demanding we maintain a status quo that is misleading, improper, and innacurate. None of my changes were substantive or particularly controversial, they simply reorganized and titled the subject matter more appropriately to conform with the consensus in talk page discussions rather than promote one side of the argument (either the hacking title and intro, or an solely about climategate and the controversy). There needs to be balance, and any objections or suggestions need to focus on the contents and the sources instead of on personal preferences based on whims and the political opinions of individual editors. Actually, I ate at Subway. The historic buildings on Euclid Avenue are in areas other than where I was; most of the NRHP buildings that I saw were ones on upper Prospect Avenue that I've previously photographed — see {{Upper Prospect MRA}}. A family member was driving me to a doctor's appointment, so no cab and no bicycle: just a little bit of convincing the family member that stopping at the Walker and Weeks building and at St. Paul's Episcopal Church on Euclid wasn't a bad idea. I'm staying with a friend tonight (since I'm on his computer, I'd be using my alternate username, User:Nyttend backup, but this IP is autoblocked because it was used by a vandalism-only account), but I should be able to upload images tomorrow when I get home. I always get the footlong Spicy Italian; I used to get the BMT until it was removed from the list of $5 footlongs — the only difference between the two sandwiches is the lack of ham (my least favorite of the meats on the BMT), and the similarity is great enough that I'd rather pay less. And also, here are the pictures that I got — sorry for the side view of the Walker and Weeks building; traffic was heavy, so I couldn't cross the street to get a better picture. I didn't think they were that impressive, but I've found that others often have better opinions of my pictures than I do :-) Next is something closer to home; I only have nine sites left to photograph between Auglaize, Champaign, and Shelby counties, so I'm hoping to knock those out soon. I don't expect that they'll be that useful to you; except for the Whitby Mansion (whose architect is unknown), they're all either rural or in small communities, and the only impressive building among them is the Catholic church in Egypt (near Minster) that was designed by the de Curtins brothers, and I already have photos of some of their more impressive works; see User:Nyttend/Cross-Tipped Churches for examples. No, I've not see Eureka's photo; what is "this subject"? I guess since you force me to choose, I'll have to say that I like some of the pictures you'll see in the Cross-Tipped Churches group (perhaps St. Augustine and St. Anthony), plus the Harding Tomb in Marion and the Civic Center in Denver, Colorado. I'm also quite partial to the ones I've taken in Beaver County, Pennsylvania — but that's because Beaver County is dear to me, not because I find those pictures more impressive than others. I've only rarely been able to go inside these buildings — since I started taking NRHP photos en masse somewhat over a year ago, I've photographed 608 different NRHP sites, but (if you don't include historic districts, bridges, plazas, etc.) I've only been in fourteen of them, and only eight since I started taking these photographs: Rotunda of the Pennsylvania Railroad Station (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania); Pittsburgh & Lake Erie Railroad Station (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania); Monongahela Incline (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania); Merrick Art Gallery (New Brighton, Pennsylvania); Carnegie Free Library, Beaver Falls (Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania); Asbury College Administration Building (Wilmore, Kentucky); and Union Terminal Group (Cleveland, Ohio). What's more, I don't generally find much reason to upload interior photos for these eight: the only ones in which I can imagine much interest for interior pictures are the Indiana and Colorado capitol buildings, and there are already plenty of interior pictures online. I know that there's no article on the Land of the Cross-Tipped Churches — I'd expect that there could be, as it's a well-known term in western Ohio, but I've not been able to find sufficient information in a quick search to put together a decent article. Perhaps a substub could be created, but I'm not much of one for creating substubs; see my most recent creation for the length of article I prefer to write. See User:Nyttend/Cross-Tipped Churches for most of the information I have on this area; there's a Multiple Property Submission document available for them here. And thanks for the compliments! I've really enjoyed visiting these sites — and thus I've gotten many more that were already photographed and thus have none of my pictures online — so it's not just for Wikipedia purposes that I take these photos. Improvements at Global Warming

I believe you have views on improving the GW article (and that entire suite of articles). I have a concern that there is one way to keep these articles the same and many ways to make improvements. This results in a) division of effort and b) large numbers of editors abandoning the effort.

Some active editors are prepared to show their support or opposition to movement in specific directions, at a chart on my TalkPage here. Hahaha. Yes, well my "subtle" brand of humor is often misconstrued. And my attempts at unsubtle humor have been almost as unsuccessful. But practice makes perfect, or so I'm told.

I think your kindness campaign looks like a good approach. I've been surprised by how many Wikipedians are sensitive to the slightest criticism and become responsive the moment their work is praised. As a NYer I grew up in an environment where those who had nice things to say were treated with suspicion. :) But there is something to be said for positive reinforcement, honey, and the use of more carrot (and less stick). Unfortunately, swinging this club around is the only thing that's keeping my upper body in shape as I'm spending too much time on here typing stuff. But hoping against hope, I wish that the picture won't be deleted, because I trust that the evil administrators aren't heartless enough to kill such a cute picture. Inherent notability

There's still not an article about me, for example. It's pretty outrageous. Keep on the Italian astronomer, there's some history of that kind of thing over there, and delete the other two. Cricket can be covered elsewhere on the web and is dubious as a sport I don't care for; and beauty pageant winners/ dance trainers are a dime a dozen these days, especially since people keep adding new countries. If she can make it onto the Moldovan Olympic team that would be a whole different story. The world's top 150 female clean-and-jerk competitors in 2012 are well worth including per WP:Crystal. I have to disagree with your assumption that people actually have to do something unusual to be worthy of inclusion - systemic bias at its worst. What about all the bookkeepers and check-out clerks in the world. Don't they have a right to their own article? And why just living people? Why not other living things? The issue you raise, "Why just living people?", is important. The undead must be given their due. I do not agree with you about pet rocks. At the very least there should be some sort of list article. See granite and List of world's tallest buildings for example. As far as animals are concerned, if we're going to include the ones faking credentials (List of animals with fraudulent diplomas), I think there's something to be said for working up stubs on the rest of man's best friends. Cats are whole different story. Leave those to Wackopedia, the attack sites, and drahmaz boreds. Birds of a feather...

I think that we just need to create articles for everyone on the planet. I know you are laughing, and that's understandable... I mean, the US Census can't even get things right without screwing the whole system up, so how are we going to catalog every person on the planet. The logistics will be hell, especially in those Asian countries where every third person is named "Nguyen". We aren't the government though, so that's one point automatically in our favor. It's not going to be easy, but I know that there's a baby being born right this moment at some log cabin in the Ozarks that needs to have a BLP right this moment, if for no other reason than just to efficiently convey baby pictures. This notice was given to me because I had the gall to report William Connolley's long pattern of abusive personal attacks, incivility, COI editing, removal and refactoring of comments, and wikilawyering POV pushing to the appropriate noticeboard. It is a way of trying chase me off and to censor me from bringing these issues to the community's attention. User:2over0 has been aggressive in going after editors he disagrees with and doesn't appreciate my calling on him to refrain from engaging in biased enforcement actions. I expect our admins to hold themselves and all of our editors to high standards, including accordance with our BLP and NPOV policies. So far those hopes have been largely unmet.

User:2over0 tried to silence those requesting appropriate enforcement by closing the relevant threads. He has also worked to intimidate editors away from good faith efforts to bring Connolley's behavior into compliance with our policies. Only because of the sheer number of diffs and large number of editors pointing out the problem was he finally compelled to take action, but he still managed to improperly target those who reported the problems. I think there's a way to get a bunch of refs combined so that they show up as one incline cite while the multiple references appear in the reflist. I mucked about on other issues I didn't like, but I'm sure I will be reverted. I tried to phrase the lead (lede) so that the grammar would work for English and American audiences, but I don't know if I succeeded. I also tried to streamline a bit. I don't like the "however", but I wasn't up to fixing it. It seems to me that a band can be pioneering in the heavy metal genre and draw on other influences. But I'm still recovering from the dispute over Tina Turner's legs and whether she's a rock icon, not to mention claims that Michael Jackson was a businessman. So I will leave it to others. Should not really be an issue. We have all of the tools we need to deal with this. Unfortunately the issue has been let slip by editors. We can deal with any unreferenced BLP under current rules. Prod tags on old BLPs are very unlikely to be removed by the article creator. Any admin deleting a BLP that is easily sourced by the first few hits of a google search should answer for their needless destruction of wikipedia. Maybe I am in the wrong place for this disscussion. Yes, Everyking's RfA was interesting. I couldn't quite support based on some comments I saw him make, I can't remember exactly what they were, but they seemed outside the pale and left an impression of that he may have some affinity for the dramatic. (I expect other to do as I say not as I do. ;) I was almost willing to write them off as the frustrations of a downtrodden editor on the outside looking in, but I couldn't quite shake my suspicions that he may be prone to the occasional grand gesture. I didn't oppose either, I see no problem with giving him a shot, and I'm glad he's getting an opportunity to hang with the big guns. We shall see what happens. I think everyone wants to belong and be with the in crowd, and then once they get inside the club they yearn to be back with Chewie and the rebel alliance. Bongo, I'm very happy to see you taking an interest in the finer things in life! I was going to have the deleted article moved back to my userspace so I could have a look at it. As there was an article on Clochette cheese, bell cheese?, it seemed like the parent company was worth including. If there's a notable cheese I would think the company that makes it is notable also. A merge made sense to me, but I don't like to fool too much with what other people have done. Too many touchy people around. I do have a question about Clochette cheese though, based on the name and my google queries, I suspect there is not one maker of that type of cheese. So I think that's something worth looking into for accuracy's sake. As far as artisinal cheesemakers go, I hope that we can have articles on all of the good ones. Have fun K-Schtick. My only suggestion is to go as "tight" with your shots as you can bear. People try to get "everything in", but that kind of photo can look pretty boring. The details of a closely cropped image and the lines and angles are usually a lot more interesting and detailed. Good luck. Zoom in if you can or get closer. That is my advice. A tight shot will give you cool angles, details, rich colors, shadows, all the things that make a great photo. You can always take one far away shot to "get it all in" if you want. But the close-ups are where it's at my man. Was the camera a Diwali present? We are half way through round one of the WikiCup. We've had some shakeups regarding late entries, flag changes and early dropouts, but the competition is now established- there will be no more flag changes or new competitors. Perhaps you could archive your talk page :-) Move and merge is complete; what I did really doesn't follow the GFDL (I essentially performed a merge-and-delete), but of course anything can be done with your text if you authorise it, so I've cited your last comment on my talk as permission for doing what I've done.

As far as the chart — I'm not sure that sorting by date would help. The date (taken from the NRHP database) is often the earliest date of anything on the site; St. Michael's in Fort Loramie was built in 1881, but it's listed in 1849 because the complex includes a small building built in that year that was the church until 1881. Yeah, Immaculate Conception is unusual; I was quite surprised when I saw it. At least it's an impressively tall and large building, unlike St. Louis parish in North Star (pictured), which is nothing like the rest; if I'd not previously know where it was located, I would have assumed that it was some other sort of building. And then you have Holy Rosary parish in St. Marys; unfortunately, it was destroyed very soon after being listed, and the current building is nothing like the original building. It's surprising how many of these buildings are gone: besides Holy Rosary, the Botkins Elementary School is now a parking lot, and the Archdiocese of Cincinnati ordered the destruction of St. Patrick church in Shelby County. When I was at the site of St. Patrick in October, I talked with a local who had been a member there; from him I got the impression that the former parishoners were quite unhappy at its destruction. First off — it's not entirely a German Catholic area. Catholic, yes, but German, no. There's a good reason that the church in North Star is named for a French king, that St. Remy church is in a community pronounced in somewhat of a French manner (Russia is "Rooshie", not "Rush-uh"), and that Holy Family church in Darke County is in Frenchtown. Moreover, St. Patrick church in Glynnwood is in a primarily Irish area. Go farther north and it's still a heavily German region, but parts of this region have never been German. I'm not as confident about the urban areas (Celina, St. Marys, and Wapakoneta), since they're religiously more diverse — in the rural areas, you'll be very hard pressed to find any Protestants; I can only think of two Protestant churches that I've seen in that area, one Presbyterian and one independent — and they're likely ethnically more diverse as well. By the time you get to Wapakoneta and Fryburg, you're definitely on the edge of the German and Catholic areas; by the time that you get over to where I live in Logan County, there are relatively few Catholics (just two parishes in the entire county, and they're not Precious Blood; see pictures of St. Patrick's in Bellefontaine and St. Mary of the Woods in Russells Point), almost all of the country churches are Methodist, and there's a much greater ethnic mix among the people here. Finally, about the map — that's a good idea. The only potential problem is that the map may need to be big enough to be hard to see at the resolution we'll need, but I'll see what I can do. Forgot to say — I know a man of German ancestry who grew up at St. Paul's in Sharpsburg and who was married at St. John's in Maria Stein; I can ask him about the culture, foods, etc. A pity that such an interview wouldn't be permitted as original research, because he'd be a good primary source. I do remember (warning: this memory may be mangled!) one remaining bit of possibly German culture that he told me about: apparently, if the oldest child in a family is not the first to be married, in many cases s/he will have to dance in a pig trough at the younger sibling's wedding. Yeah, Wyoming was a natural place — I've already photographed Glendale, and I was in Springdale and Montgomery before the photography expedition began (there are few enough sites in Montgomery and none in Springdale), so it was a nice and easy place to go. As I think I said before, I collect photos for myself, even if there are already photos on here; I'd gotten to Montgomery in August, but time ran out for me to get several sites, so I thought I'd finish the job today. Time ran out after I'd gotten the houses on Springfield Pike [except the Village HD; I didn't know where the northern and southern boundaries were, so I walked past the district without realising it :-(], but I only have six listings left to photograph — but as you can see in the discussion at WT:NRHP, I believe that two of them (the Robert Reily House and Twin Oaks) are the same one, so there are actually just five for me to get. Avondale isn't the best area, but I've been there, although not in years — I've only ever been there to go to the zoo, and the last time I was at the zoo was before I was in high school. However, I doubt that I'll get a chance to help you in Toledo: other than driving on the interstates, I don't think I've ever been to Toledo. Unlike Cincinnati, I don't know anyone at all in the Toledo area (of all my acquaintances, the ones who live closest to Toledo area in the northern suburbs of Detroit!) and have no other reasons to visit the area. And also, I prefer to have higher-resolution images; if nothing else, it lets me see the details of the buildings and/or the rest of the property. Yes, there were a lot of innacuracies and misunderstandings. I thought the whole thrust of the "peak" theory was interesting and the description of the evolution from wild and wide open creative space to a bureaucratized sphere controlled by experienced editors was worthy of consideration. I don't actually remember a lot of discussion about BLPs, other than I guess the adding of additional layers being discussed? I also thought the discussion was interesting in the context of a Time magazine reporter talking about the possible demise or maturation of Wikipedia. It seems to me that Wikipedia is growing rapidly, which certainly cannot be said about the magazine industry... As far as problems experienced by new editors and contributors, I think that's a real conern. Thanks again for the link. Interesting stuff. What they did cover (and didn't) and their misunderstandings were also, I think, telling as far as perceptions go. I agree with CoM on this one—since there's no impact of articles never being patrolled, why shouldn't every article—even experienced editors—be flagged? On the other hand, for really new editors or editors with few edits, new articles should be flagged for special attention (beyond the current unpatrolled status). I find it useful to have my new articles reviewed as soon as possible.

You don't understand the point of pages going unpatrolled, I see. It's to make sure that all the crap is caught. The 'unpatrolled' tag only lasts for 30 days, then it expires. Leaping in to the cheese, I think I could make these and photograph them so CoM doesn't have to wait for the Flickr author to wake up and smell the CC-BY-SA.
