Sussex East

edit

I have proposed that this article which you have written be merged into the region article Girlguiding London and South East England. It contains some material that could be added there, but I do not believe the topic is sufficiently notable to have its own article. It also contains advertising material that is not appropriate for wikipedia. It is, I believe, the first Guide County article to be written. Until last year, there were articles for most of the Scout Counties and Areas in the UK, but these caused considerable problems which were solved by a grand merge into articles on Scouting in government Regions. The Guide region articles were left. I hope you will join the Project and look at our extensive guidelines and experience there on articles on Scouting and Guiding and that you will continue to edit Scouting and Guiding articles on wikipedia. Again, welcome and good luck. --Bduke (Discussion) 00:11, 10 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I promised to tell you how to do this merge so here goes. I am about to do it. I open separate windows for Sussex East and Girlguiding London and South East England. Looking at the former, the list of Divisions is important information, so will be copied into the latter. The list of people is problematic as the Scouting Project Manual of Style says we do not name people who are not individually notable enough to have their own article. The Countess De La Warr is marginal as notability comes from her husband. The liink should go to her husband at William Sackville, 11th Earl De La Warr. not the general article for the title itself. The link to the pavilion is inappropriate. The advertising and recruitment under members is not to me merged. The silk is interesting so I'll see how that fits in. It would be nice if you could get an image of it, but even a photo you take may have copyright issues but it could be used under "fair use". So now open both for editing. For the target I edit the whole article, not just a section, so using preview I can see all of it including references. I merge in the list of divisions and make the URL link into references. Seeing that the other counties need the URL links to be references, I also do that. However fitting in this information makes the list of counties difficult, so I converted each to a sub heading that allows information about other counties to be added as has happened on many Scout Region articles. I saved at that point, but forgot to remove the merge notice. I edited again to remove that. I also noticed that there are a lot of references that need inlining. I will do that later. I then replaced the content of "Sussex East" with a redirect to county section of traget article and added the tag for "Scouting redirect from merge". I then edited Talk:Sussex East to alter the Project tag now it is a redirect. Finally I go to Wikipedia:WikiProject Scouting#Pending renames, merges, etc to edit that to inform them the merge has been done. That is a total of five edits. You just have to do it slowly and carefully. Let me know if I have got it wrong. --Bduke (Discussion) 22:31, 23 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I missed one point. I then went to Talk:Girlguiding London and South East England to add that the merge had been completed. --Bduke (Discussion) 22:35, 23 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hello

Hello Claireyfairypink! I'm Kingbird and I contribute quite a bit to Guiding and Girl Scouting articles here on Wikipedia. I'm glad see someone else interested in Girlguiding UK stuff as there are very few of us about on Wikipedia. If you are stuck for a reference at any point, drop me a note, as I have a few books on the history of Guiding in the UK. I may be able to help. Also, there's a group that concentrates on Guide-y and Girl Scout-y stuff, Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting Task Force. You may like to check out the messages there from time to time, and you'd be very welcome to join (by putting your name on the list). Kingbird (talk) 00:30, 19 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
