Orphaned fair use image (Image:Andreea Raducan 2002 Li Ning Cup Floor.png)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Andreea Raducan 2002 Li Ning Cup Floor.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hello please weigh in on your 2006 change to the Eagle Nebula wherein you stated that the protostars are only found aplenty in that nebula. In particular, would you please provide a citation to back up this statement and review the current wording to make sure it is still accurate? Thanks. WilliamKF 20:24, 16 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Images from www.gymnast.ru

edit

Greetings, Cmapm! I noticed the images you uploaded a while ago from http://www.gymanst.ru/. They currently do not mention who the copyright holder is which is necessary per Wikipedia's policy regarding Wikipedia:Non-free content. I unfortunately cannot read Russian, so I cannot go to the website and discover who the copyright holder is. Is it the website owner? A photographer who licensed his/her images for the website? And in which country were they born and when was the photograph published? If you could help to answer these questions, I would appreciate it. Regards, Iamunknown 20:05, 22 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

When you edit an article, make sure what you're editing is a clean revision :-)

edit

Hi, when you edited North Pole in January you missed some vandalism, causing all subsequent editors to miss a section deletion (a very obvious one, too: "ocean between the Pole and Canada's therwise, until 1999..." --should be pretty obvious that there's something missing). I found the deleted text by wading through the article history and also the reason why other editors missed the deletion, because it was followed by a string of legitimate edits. :-) - (), 13:21, 26 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Boxing Moscow 1980.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Boxing Moscow 1980.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Unspecified source for Image:Boxing Moscow 1980.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Boxing Moscow 1980.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 15:18, 16 May 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Fair use rationale for Image:Belarusfilm logo 1980.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Belarusfilm logo 1980.jpg. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

Education in the Soviet Union

Why do you remove universities from this category? Why those, which functioned in the Soviet period shouldn't be there? I'm reverting your changes as nonsense. Cmapm 23:21, 14 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

I say it makes very little sense to separate those in Russia from those in the Soviet Union. Countries, regimes, etc. come and go while universities remain unchanged. Would you, for example, have a cat for Cities in the Soviet Union in addition to the Cities in Russia cat? I am working on making subcats for Russian universities by the cities. Soviet Union just does not fit. I will post it CFD unless you can convince me otherwise. Mhym 09:16, 15 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your interest in topics regarding the Baltic republics and the Soviet occupation. This interests has undoubtedly familiarised you with tactics and behaviour of Petri Krohn.

I have prepared a thorough overview of these tactics, along with references to related Wikipedia policy, and posted it to his userpage, requesting that he stop such activities, especially representing private alternative histories on Wikipedia as thought they were fact.

Unfortunately, he proceeded to delete the request mere seven minutes later, along with an inflammatory edit summary. I do not believe this to have been a proper reaction.

Flag of the Soviet Union

edit

I did read it. The flag did not change in 1955, but in 1980. The info you added does not mention a change of flag at all, rather a ruling to ensure the correct manufacture of the flag, the general design of which was implemented from 1923 - 1980. The 1980 flag is a brighter red, and should not be added to articles concerning events before then.  slυмgυм [ ←→ ] 23:22, 22 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I now agree that it did change, but it was not easy to work out. I have just made a small change to the article to clarify it and remove the contradiction below the 2nd pictured flag. I still think it's better to use the 1923 flag for events before 1980, as the colour change is more noticeable in flagicon form than the symbol change.  slυмgυм [ ←→ ] 14:41, 23 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Alexandr Tkachyov.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Carl (CBM · talk) 19:31, 26 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:VSS Kolos (Ukrainian SSR) Emblem.png

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:VSS Kolos (Ukrainian SSR) Emblem.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use.

Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Angr 15:58, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I got your note and fixing up the article. I also made other changes you did not bring up, such as spelling and reducing fair use images. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 03:08, 2 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image source problem with Image:Artek's logo.gif

Image Copyright problem

This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:Artek's logo.gif. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use.

If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 15:14, 8 September 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. If you believe you received this message in error, please notify the bot's owner. Fair use disputed for Image:Artistic Gymnastics 2006 Worlds logo.png

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Artistic Gymnastics 2006 Worlds logo.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 23:20, 13 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
