ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message
Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}}

Going back to your old page protection of James Madison some years ago. The article has gone through some upgrades and is currently at FAC after a successful GAN. There appears to be extended edit warring on the Madison Talk page which could be helped by increasing your previous page protection to 'extended page protection' at this time. Could you take a look at it? ErnestKrause (talk) 15:18, 11 December 2022 (UTC)
- It appears that you have been canvassing—leaving messages on a biased choice of users' talk pages to notify them of an ongoing community decision, debate, or vote—in order to influence James Madison. While friendly notices are allowed, they should be limited and nonpartisan in distribution and should reflect a neutral point of view. Please do not post notices which are indiscriminately cross-posted, which espouse a certain point of view or side of a debate, or which are selectively sent only to those who are believed to hold the same opinion as you. Remember to respect Wikipedia's principle of consensus-building by allowing decisions to reflect the prevailing opinion among the community at large. Thank you. Questions about requesting Army general officer portraits
Currently looking for, among other things, high-definition versions of Trevor J. Bredenkamp's portrait and Patrick E. Matlock's portrait. These portraits were sourced from the General Officer Management Office's website, which has a distinct lack of high-definition official portraits. Have had no response from Army Public Affairs, GOMO's public affairs branch. I have not yet contacted DVIDS (the Defense Visual Information Distribution Service) for them (they are mentioned in the photo metadata). I have contacted their parent agency DIMOC (the Defense Imagery Management Operations Centre) for portraits before but they usually refer me to NARA, which only archives photos which are taken before 1982.
My other option is the various Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and Space Force portrait studios. The most prevalent source of general and flag officer portraits is the Army portrait studio in the Pentagon. My question is, aside from the Pentagon's public affairs department, who I will contact shortly, is it advisable to directly email Richard K. Osburn, Chief, Army Photography Division Army Multimedia and Visual Information Directorate (AMVID), or directly email William Pratt and Leonard Fitzgerald, the Army portrait studio photographers? Their names and emails are in the image metadata. SuperWIKI (talk) 01:07, 15 December 2022 (UTC)
High resolution portraits of Members of Congress
Hey, I was wondering about your method for finding high resolution official photos for members of Congress, such as Jake Auchincloss, Jamaal Bowman, etc. that aren't available on their house.gov websites. I m trying to improve the quality of photos on Wikipedia, but I haven't had much luck finding higher resolution images besides ones easily obtained on public Congressional websites. One method that I considered is to try and email Representatives' offices on the contact form on their webpage and ask for their photo. I attempted to do this for Representatives Rudy Yakym and Joe Sempolinski, since on both of their "about" pages, it prompts you to their contact form if you are seeking their official photo (it likewise does this with other members' of Congress websites). Unfortunately, it requires the verification of residency in their respective district to even attempt to send an email. Nevertheless, I've contacted Andy Harris's office about obtaining a better version of his photo (since https://harris.house.gov/contact does not have said residency requirement), but as of yet, I've received no response. Is there any other better way for finding high resolution photos? Thanks. Politicsfan4 (talk) 21:20, 18 December 2022 (UTC)

Several new USAF portraits obtained
Over the past few weeks, I've sent a blitz of emails to the various history offices of Air Force Materiel Command, Air Mobility Command and United States Air Forces in Europe - Air Forces Africa. I have been sent many official command portraits of generals who previously did not have adequate portraits for the List of United States Air Force four-star generals, including:
- F. Michael Rogers (AFMC History Office)
- Billy M. Minter (USAFE-AFAFRICA History Office)
- William L. Kirk (USAFE-AFAFRICA History Office)
- Truman H. Landon (USAFE-AFAFRICA History Office)
- John W. Vogt Jr. (USAFE-AFAFRICA History Office)
- Bernard A. Schriever (AFMC History Office)
- Edwin W. Rawlings (AFMC History Office)
- Kenneth B. Hobson (AFMC History Office)
- Henry Viccellio Jr. (AFMC History Office)
- Charles T. Robertson Jr. (AMC History Office)
- Howell M. Estes Jr. (AMC History Office)
I have also contacted United States European Command, United States Indo-Pacific Command, United States Northern Command, North American Aerospace Defense Command, United States Strategic Command, Air Combat Command and Pacific Air Forces for the email addresses of their history offices, as well as the archives of several museums on their bases, but they haven't gotten back to me yet. Better than my haul with NARA though! SuperWIKI (talk) 05:55, 24 January 2023 (UTC)
- SuperWIKI - that is great news, thanks for letting me know! As I suspected, I'm pretty sure that a lot of those early 1960s photos actually exist in color (like Hobson and Rawlings), so nice to see some of them in their full state! Connormah (talk) 20:08, 24 January 2023 (UTC)
- Also received high-res pictures from NARA of Hugh P. Harris and John L. Throckmorton. The door is closing however - they told me I should only request courtesy scans of officers with no verifiable image online, which means No since every four-star officer has (even in poor quality) a definitive image online. Since they aren't a dedicated reproduction service, it's understandable. That said, the whole deal with classified documents (even Mike Pence is part of it now) lately and NARA's role in securing them may persuade Congress to up its budget... that may be helpful in setting up such a service. SuperWIKI (talk) 01:05, 25 January 2023 (UTC)
- SuperWIKI - Yes, it is a shame that there is no ongoing collaboration with Wikipedia to provide media for public domain use, though I suppose it would be quite the undertaking. Anyways, if they're not already on your radar, I do remember pretty hard for high-resolution color photos of Wilbur L. Creech, Bennie L. Davis, Louis L. Wilson Jr. (NARA sent a portrait of him in a lower rank) and James V. Hartinger in the past, but never was able to get further than what I found. For other branches, I had tried to track down photos of James Edward Moore, Guy S. Meloy Jr., Henry I. Hodes and a studio portrait of Husband E. Kimmel, but similarly had no luck. Connormah (talk) 03:22, 27 January 2023 (UTC)
- Already on my radar in this highly detailed list. PACAF hasn't got back to me on the email address of their history office yet. If they're too busy to reply every request, I'll try to keep asking every two months until I get lucky. Do you have that portrait of Louis L. Wilson Jr. at lower rank on Wikimedia Commons? SuperWIKI (talk) 03:26, 27 January 2023 (UTC)
- SuperWIKI - I don't have the photo of Wilson uploaded to the Commons, but its citation number is 342-B-12-044-2-KE-43475 and it is a three-star portrait. I do have some other citataion numbers that might help for four star photos (the rest are other portraits of officers with no online photos, like Ray B. Sitton, John B. Ackerman, Edwin Chess, Hugh Wild, John Samford, Terence Finnegan). I did upload the B&W photocopies that I was mailed of a few others, like McBride (USAF), Gerrity (USAF), O'Donnell (USAF) and Blanchard (USAF), but never really pursued them further in terms of getting full scans. Anyways, the other ones are - Louis T. Seith (3 star - 342-B-12-372-KE-49360); Charles D. Palmer (negative only - 111-P-33638); Bennie L. Davis (342-B-12-010-1-KE-69353); Raymond J. Reeves (same photo as currently in article - 342-P-172-10-OFF); Berton E. Spivy Jr. (4-star, color - 111-PC-PC179057). Connormah (talk) 04:21, 27 January 2023 (UTC)
- I'm assuming that for Wilson you only have the citation number and a glimpse of the file, but not the high-res file itself? There may be some hope for Gerrity - he commanded an AFMC predecessor, Air Force Logistics Command from 1967 to 1968. The AFMC History Office has been the most satisfying so far to get portraits from, so they'll likely give me an excellent colour image next week! As for Seith, I've directly contacted SHAPE's History Office. SuperWIKI (talk) 04:32, 27 January 2023 (UTC)
- SuperWIKI, yes, that is the case. Not sure why I didn't upload it when I received it (along with Spivy), but I can try and do that in the next week or so. Also, the citation for Davis is this photo, by the way. Connormah (talk) 05:12, 27 January 2023 (UTC)
- SuperWIKI - also, by the way, another possible thing to keep a look out for are photos for the Vice Commandant of the Coast Guard page. Very hard to come across these, and several are pretty poor in quality. Connormah (talk) 16:55, 27 January 2023 (UTC)
- I've contacted the USCG History Office for this purpose a while back - another brick wall. SuperWIKI (talk) 10:39, 28 January 2023 (UTC)
- Additional delivery from AFMC History Office - high-res colour portraits of Jack G. Merrell, Alfred G. Hansen, Robert T. Marsh, Jack J. Catton, Thomas Patrick Gerrity and Bryce Poe II. SuperWIKI (talk) 14:59, 2 February 2023 (UTC)
- SuperWIKI, great news, thanks for letting me know! Connormah (talk) 22:40, 2 February 2023 (UTC)

Update for this week
Received high quality portraits of these individuals:
- USAF - From the AFMC History Office: Gen James Ferguson, Mark E. Bradley, William J. Evans, among others.
- Army - The Army GOMO finally responded to me, but the 9 files they sent me are in a format that's unreadable, .att rather than the typical JPG or PNG. It means they're practically worthless. SuperWIKI (talk) 17:53, 8 February 2023 (UTC)
- That's great news! Sorry to hear about the GOMO file issue - hopefully you might be able to work them out at some point. Connormah (talk) 07:45, 9 February 2023 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Montreal Alouettes Logo (2000-2018).svg
Thank you for uploading File:Montreal Alouettes Logo (2000-2018).svg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 12:26, 12 March 2023 (UTC)

The article Dan Patrick (ice hockey) has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.
If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Alaney2k (talk) 12:50, 3 May 2023 (UTC)

Hi, just letting you know I've done a trial unprotection of the article on Ferdinand Magellan which you indefinitely semi-protected in 2012. Will monitor it for resumed disruption and reapply protection if necessary. And of course please feel free to revert this change if you feel vandalism is likely to immediately resume. Speedy deletion nomination of Daniel Larson (Internet personality)
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Daniel Larson (Internet personality) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Liz Read! Talk! 07:12, 13 July 2023 (UTC)

Gridiron football stubs
Wikipedia guidelines were changed early last year to require that all sports biographies have at least one piece of WP:SIGCOV (not counting database entries). In recent months, there have been efforts to draftify en masse sport substubs that do not comply with this requirement. Accordingly, we have begun a campaign to improve gridiron football biographies that could be targeted in a similar RfC. This list identifies some of the articles that are the most vulnerable based on the new guidelines. Approximately 167 of the vulnerable articles are ones that you created between 2015 and 2020. E.g., Danny Banda, Terry Bunting, Harvey Campbell, Dick Chrobak, John Gough, Alan Haycock, Ken Higgs, Bob Holburn, Vic Mayson, Nayland Moll, Harry Rothwell, and Al Valdes.
The list includes articles I created as well, and it is not intended as criticism of you or anyone else, as such stubs were permitted prior to the change in policy. Instead, the purpose is to encourage each of us to clean up these stubs so as to avoid draftification or deletion. I am hoping that you will revisit as many of these articles as you can to add the required SIGCOV. Thanks, Cbl62 (talk) 00:46, 28 July 2023 (UTC)
- Cbl62, I appreciate the efforts and heads up, but I am not sure that I will be able to devote any significant amounts of time to these over the next little while. I can say however that I do believe that for a majority of these articles, it should not much trouble to find additional (and significant) newspaper mentions; many of these players played several years at the CFL level, on championship teams, and/or were notable college athletes. And quite frankly the recent direction of several of these discussions has greatly lowered my motivation to work on anything significant Wikipedia-related anymore. *shrug* Connormah (talk) 15:22, 28 July 2023 (UTC)
- I understand and find it discouraging that recent trends are disincentivizing such a great contributor as you. Cbl62 (talk) 15:46, 28 July 2023 (UTC)

Nelson Rathbun
Hello. If you think you could spare the time, I would appreciate it if you looked over User:AllTheUsernamesAreInUse/Sample page. It is the basic model of thousands of pages I plan to create in the future, probably in at least a year or so. I plan to create an article for every state legislator to have served in every state that doesn't yet have one. I know this is an ambitious goal but do you think it is a good idea? I don't want to end up like User:Lugnuts or something. Do you think it is a good model to base all those pages on? Any issues with sourcing, content, etc? Anything I should add, reduce, or otherwise change? Categories? Should I use authority control? I know that seems like a lot of questions but I would greatly appreciate any feedback as I don't want to mess up a task this big, but like I said it will be a while before I get to it. Thanks in advance. AllTheUsernamesAreInUse (talk) 04:43, 13 February 2024 (UTC)
- @AllTheUsernamesAreInUse: - I think it's a good start, but it'd probably be best to find 2-3 more substantive news sources for these as well wherever you can. Oftentimes it is pretty easy to find them for most legislators circa 1900-present with access to databases like Newspapers.com, but earlier names could prove tougher. I do think tf enough microstubs of legislators are created en masse though, it'd be hard not to to see similar discussions get started, so you you might want to exercise caution. Connormah (talk) 03:38, 15 February 2024 (UTC)
- Alright, thanks for the tip. I will try not to make microstubs. Do you think limiting myself to one, two or three an hour is good? Or is that too much? Of course I would probably be taking indiscriminate breaks. Do you know of any free alternatives to Newspapers.com? I could probably access that website but would prefer circumventing the hassle. Also, do you know much about authority control? Do you think it's worth using in these articles? AllTheUsernamesAreInUse (talk) 04:25, 15 February 2024 (UTC)
- @AllTheUsernamesAreInUse: - You might be able to find some other sites listed at Wikipedia:List of online newspaper archives but it is highly dependant on the location. Do you qualify for newspapers.com access through the Wikipedia Library? It is fairly easy to sign up. Regarding authority control, that is related to people who have published books and other materials under their names. If it's available I don't see any reason against using it. Connormah (talk) 14:54, 16 February 2024 (UTC)
- Do you think I should sign up for the Wikipedia Library closer to when I plan to start making these articles? Also, if you don't mind, could you check out source no. 3 on the Nelson Rathbun sample page? Did I use the right template to cite the archived newspaper? AllTheUsernamesAreInUse (talk) 01:41, 17 February 2024 (UTC)
