Any ideas for this month's selected article? As with last month, there haven't been any obvious article developments to choose from.--Midgrid(talk) 11:23, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

Yes, that's a significant anniversary. I would say that it's start class at the moment, as there is an almost complete lack of references (including an uncited direct quotation) and the NC results table is incomplete. Unfortunately I don't have any of my F1 books to hand at the moment, but I'm sure that this week's Autosport will have some sort of tribute which will contain some useful information.--Midgrid(talk) 11:53, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
My mistake, there's actually no mention of him at all! :( --Midgrid(talk) 19:24, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
I guess they must be saving it for next week, when there are fewer race reports to fit in.--Midgrid(talk) 20:49, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

Volleyball players

I have seen that you edited some volleyball articles. Some players articles, most of them looks outdated. I would like to improve players by country. Could you please choose a country to contribute with? Please take a look on Yekaterina Gamova, Hélia Souza, Serena Ortolani and Kenia Carcaces for a model to follow. Please can you please improve some volleyball players with infobox and some addons? References are very important. Let me know. Oscar987 22:23, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

Hi, would you be so kind as to give us support!

Hello, I hope you're doing fine and I sincerely apologize for this spiky intrusion. I've just read your profile and saw that you're a Scotsman proud of his origins (I went to Edinburgh not that long ago and I really appreciated the people and the wonderful place! Beautiful and really nice!), so I guess that being Scottish helps you understand what are an endangered language and culture and maybe I am not bothering you and you will help us... I'm a member of a Catalan association "Amical de la Viquipèdia" which is trying to get some recognition as a Catalan Chapter but this hasn't been approved up to that moment. We would appreciate your support, visible if you stick this on your first page: Wikimedia CAT. Supporting us will be like giving equal opportunity to minorized languages and cultures in the future! Thanks again, wishing you a great summer, take care! Keep on preserving your great culture, country and language! Mar sin leibh! Capsot (talk) 14:46, 17 June 2010 (UTC)

S.t. doesn't have to be used just for the winner see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_Tour_de_France,_Stage_1_to_Stage_11#Stage_5. Also in the box on the top of the page with all the jersey it reads "s.t. indicates that the rider crossed the finish line in the same group as the one receiving the time above him, and was therefore credited with the same finishing time." Hi, I noticed you ran a script on a lot of articles related to Turkish football. Thanks! If it isn't too much trouble, I wanted to ask if you could run it on the Football in Turkey article, specifically the seasons section. Birthdate and age

That is exactly what I was thinking of. There I was trying to edit the template itself in order for it to accept the field, and it apparently accepts it already. I had no idea! Thanks very much for pointing that out to me :) Bretonbanquet (talk) 23:46, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

Great work!! My template-editing skills need some work haha... It seems to be working fine, and I'm making them date first, apart from the Americans, who like the month first. Hopefully that will be acceptable to everyone :) Bretonbanquet (talk) 23:54, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
Awesome! Bretonbanquet (talk) 23:56, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
Not even sure what wrapping is.. :( lol but I see now the "date of death" field shows for living drivers, which might be a bit morbid, somehow. Any way to hide it till a driver dies? Bretonbanquet (talk) 00:14, 28 July 2010 (UTC)
Haha, you're still a lot better at it than I am! Bretonbanquet (talk) 00:17, 28 July 2010 (UTC)
Yes, I don't see why not, unless they use a different infobox? Bretonbanquet (talk) 00:24, 28 July 2010 (UTC)

Hahaha, well I just don't know who you mean!! ;) Bretonbanquet (talk) 00:33, 28 July 2010 (UTC)

Great stuff. I was concentrating last night on drivers that are still alive, and most of those must surely be done now, maybe 50-100 left at most. I'll finish those and then start clearing up the rest. Great work with the infoboxes too! Bretonbanquet (talk) 17:59, 28 July 2010 (UTC)

Yep, I definitely think we could finish it tonight :) Bretonbanquet (talk) 18:05, 28 July 2010 (UTC)
Haha, yes, we were a touch optimistic about that! Still, I think it's practically done now - I've just done a few of the Italian and French guys (and girl) who slipped through the net, but surely there can't be too many more. How are the Indy guys looking? Bretonbanquet (talk) 11:01, 30 July 2010 (UTC)

Lol well done for finishing those off - I missed those few that already had date info in other infoboxes. I think we did a pretty good job! Bretonbanquet (talk) 17:06, 30 July 2010 (UTC)

Haha, thank you :) Yes, going through all the driver pages made me realise that it's a never-ending task getting them all up to scratch. Lots of them are still basically one or two sentences... And yes, then there's F3000! We are gluttons for punishment ;) Bretonbanquet (talk) 17:30, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
Yes, you're right on all counts there. Either more editors joining the effort, or a much longer time for us. I think it's important to work on things as and when you have the passion to do it, otherwise you end up hating it! This latest bout of hard work has renewed my energy a bit though. And yes, anyone can create a few dozen one-line articles... it's fleshing them out that's the hard part. C'est la vie! *sigh* Bretonbanquet (talk) 17:41, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
If only we knew where Alguersuari was going to end up, and so quickly?! Only a privileged few of us get to start an article on someone who later gets to F1. You could claim some kind of sixth sense. I'm still waiting for Davide Rigon to get there... right, I'm off to the Chinese takeaway, catch you later ;) Bretonbanquet (talk) 18:16, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
Yes, I felt bad for Hartley - it's a bit cut-throat at Red Bull with the junior programme, and it's so hard to get that second chance he now needs. Vergne looks like he could be very good indeed if he carries on that way, and in a few years, it'll be the likes of him and Bottas that we're watching on Sunday afternoons! Rigon - he'll get to F1, even if I have to buy the Hispania team and get Yamamoto in the other car to pay the bills! Hahaha Bretonbanquet (talk) 20:16, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
The Red Bull junior programme seems littered with half-decent names who will now struggle. I suppose many other sports are the same, but it still seems harsh. For every Alguersuari, who really wasn't that impressive in F1 at the beginning, there's a few Hartleys and Wickenses. Who's to say that either of them wouldn't be challenging Buemi after 12 months like Alguersuari is? I guess Williams are looking for Bottas to follow Hulkenberg, but as you say, not next year at any rate. I knew Cypher were too shaky for that 13th grid slot, they just never looked convincing to me - likewise whatever concoction Ken Anderson comes up with. So it's either Epsilon Euskadi, Villeneuve/Durango, or that Stefan group. I'm not sure Bernie likes Stefan, so my money's on the other two. Although, I see Bernie has criticised Virgin and HRT for being too slow, while joining the Lotus love-in. I don't really get that, as Lotus are no more convincing than the other two. Bretonbanquet (talk) 21:31, 30 July 2010 (UTC)

Yes, none of those have really set the world on fire, have they? I felt a bit sorry for Grosjean - a bit like Badoer at the same time, no preparation = no chance. Hard to say how good Di Grassi is, but I suspect only a little better than the Nakajimas and Briscoes of this world. I'm not a fan of Kobayashi just yet. I hated all the hype surrounding him after a couple of scrappy moves on cars full of fuel or on cold tyres - suddenly the guy was the new Vettel. Then there was the strategy at Valencia, which would have won points for any driver. I always like to see a driver really struggle for a while before finding success - it makes me like him more! As for Buemi, I can see him getting dropped if Alguersuari starts to outperform him - Toro Rosso are pretty brutal when it comes to replacing drivers. Since you mentioned him, Maldonado is another name I'd like to see move up. Bernie and co will be anxious about Durango, unless JV can provide some serious back-up somehow. Totally agree with you on Lotus. Maybe it's jingoistic or something, but I can't help thinking that the Plastic Lotus is like a toy that you turn upside-down and see "Made in Malaysia" and think, "ah, foreign rubbish - not like in my day" and similar, slightly prejudiced things. What exactly have they done? Having better drivers than the other new teams (Glock excepted) has given them the edge, and not much else. As you say, Virgin still can't build a car that can get through a weekend without something falling off or breaking, and the Hispania is like an old man running for a bus. Senna (and Chandhok until his wallet got too small) hustle the thing around, but to no effect. Enter Yamamoto, a sure sign that a team is on the point of becoming the Andrea Moda of the 21st century. Don't talk about the fact that he can barely get within a second of anyone else. I don't know if Klien would want to race that thing, wouldn't it harm his reputation? As for Sauber, the car has pace - sometimes, but points are hard to come by, particularly for poor De la Rosa, another driver surely heading for the door sooner or later. Bretonbanquet (talk) 22:36, 30 July 2010 (UTC)

I was quite impressed with Petrov today, obviously the first time he's out-qualified Kubica, but coming after that bit of criticism he had from his team, I think it shows a bit of mettle. But he'll need to keep that up from here until the end of the season if he's to keep his seat, I think. If he does lose his seat, I hope he finds another one, as he deserves a second shot. Could Grosjean have done what Petrov is doing? What a shame we'll never know. He has obviously got some serious talent... Maybe one of the new teams could take him, and I include the 13th team in that. I think Di Grassi should be closer to Glock - blown away today. Kobayashi was poor today, I thought. Sure, Senna didn't help him, but that lap was already too slow, judging from the live timing. De la Rosa, on the other hand, did a great job. I see DLR as a sort of benchmark really - anyone with serious talent should be beating DLR comfortably. Alguersuari was giving his best shot to beat Buemi, and I thought he'd do it too, but Buemi pulled that last lap out to get ahead. I do feel though that Alguersuari has some momentum there. I agree that STR should be further ahead than they are right now. They're no further on than Minardi would have been with a cash injection, and in fairness, Minardi blooded more top drivers. As for JV, I feel that he has some kind of bug for F1. Nothing else seems to really turn him on somehow. I'm assuming he'd drive one of the cars himself. And of course, there's always a bunch of drivers who'll drive anything, regardless of a car's performance or a team's imminent bankruptcy. Chandhok at HRT - I understood that he had backing from Bernie, as his dad is buddies with Bernie. Apparently he was going to be bumped out for Yamamoto at Silverstone, but HRT were "asked" not to do that, and Senna got the push instead. I don't know how much cash Senna brings, but some team sponsorship may be dependent on Senna being in the car, due to the name. There's certainly not much between him and Chandhok talent-wise. What irritates me is when Yamamoto says out loud that he's in the car for performance reasons. Sure he's closer to Senna at the moment, but I think that's more due to Senna having issues than Yamamoto being quick. The car is so poor that it's hard to tell. Klien would presumably be quicker and I'd expect to see him at some point, but I don't know if he brings any cash at all. That team is so dodgy that I'm half-expecting Ricardo Teixeira to turn up at Spa - for "performance reasons". Hahaha.. roll on tomorrow! Bretonbanquet (talk) 13:52, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
I'm going to keep my eye on Grosjean - I suddenly feel like he's worthy of another shot at F1. I like a challenge!! Kobayashi didn't seem to think he'd done anything wrong, but there was a clear red light, and the stewards tend not to like that kind of thing. He should really start at the back for that. I didn't think Chandhok would be any good at all in F1, but he surprised me with his ability vis-a-vis Senna. It must be very difficult for him to sit and watch. Ah, Pantano! Another guy who deserved a second chance. HRT could do worse than him, but I suspect his wallet isn't big enough. Yes, tomorrow will be a Red Bull benefit, sadly - I hope Webber comes out on top. And my god no, please no thinly-disguised team order ballet. F1 can't take too much of that stuff... Bretonbanquet (talk) 14:42, 31 July 2010 (UTC)

WDC Indy drivers

Hi Cs-wolves. Great work on adding those F1 infoboxes to all the WDC Indy drivers. Now that the infoboxes are in place, do you think we can/should remove the "World Championship Career Summary" sections from the articles? I think they just repeat the information that is now in the infobox. Also, I notice that for some of the drivers, the "Number of races" value in the infobox doesn't match the "Indy 500 results" tables in the driver article and/or List of Formula One drivers. My guess is that your "Number of races" includes failures to qualify, which those other tables don't. Just out of interest, what was your source for the "Number of races" values? If (as I suspect) it's a reliable source, then I suggest we update the "Indy 500 results" tables and List of Formula One drivers to match. DH85868993 (talk) 15:27, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Weapons (band)

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

A tag has been placed on Weapons (band) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject of the article is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} at the top of the article, immediately below the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate), and providing your reasons for contesting on the article's talk page, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. You may freely add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

You may want to read the guidelines for specific types of articles: biographies, websites, bands, or companies. 21st CENTURY GREENSTUFF 12:40, 21 August 2010 (UTC)

?

Hi. You brought up the fact that on certain season pages I left question marks where I was not able to locate, for example, a fastest lap driver for a particular race. Maybe you could tell me where you actually found the information because you seem to be able to fill in the gaps quite easily. If you don't want me to leave these things to other people then at least help me to do it for myself next time by telling me where you found the information. I apologise for leaving question marks but please don't be ungrateful because I do quite a lot on here that nobody else would otherwise bother with and I only left a few things incomplete where information wasn't noticeably out there. Thank you. Officially Mr X (talk) 14:43, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for your reply and it was most useful. I am very grateful for the work you do and I genuinely respect you. Yeah, the bare links thing, I guess I have no excuse, I just tend to be a bit lazy and rush the job under the idea that "so long as there is a source link to refer to then that will suffice" but I understand it is better to lay refs out fully. Officially Mr X (talk) 11:34, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

I've reverted your removal of refnames. Rennames enable multiple usage of a ref within an article and are an accepted way of doing things. Otherwise you end up with reflists getting very long when many of the refs are repeats of those higher up the list. Mjroots (talk) 17:50, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

Really? Never heard of it before? Hmmm, I must say that's a bit surprising. I thought a good few people would have known of it. Then again, I'd say for most Wikipedians, "edit conflict" is a lot more well known! :D TheChrisD RantsEdits 22:41, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

What dou you mean

What dou you mean? It's something that has already been done and not a future project. It definitely looks more professional and easier to read. I am fond of WTCC and the wiki page should be a good source of information, but the tables were pretty unfriendly and hard to read. I've reverted it back as I worked on that little change and it is useful. Pretty sure you'll be stubborn and change it back again to less friendly. What's the point? Thanks. Catabv23 (talk) 00:01, 5 September 2010 (UTC)

I appreciate your reply. Still I think the page looks better with square and equal cells in each column. The page is not human to feel any pressure so it's ready to display the info as the man wants. Should you want it to look untidy or squeezed it's ok, do it. If you compare Manufacturers' championship standings- look in prev version to Manufacturers' championship standings in my version you'll see it's not so pointless as you say. You're sending people to the official web page through this attitude. It is a wikipedian obsession to show authority no matter rational arguments. It's sad. DNS and NC tags

Hi Craig, it just came to my mind that DNS tags are attributed to people who crashed during a race it was stopped and couldn't make the restart, in this situation would it not be better to use NC tags, as its the same colour as Ret tags it imply's that they were at the race and crashed rather than they didn't start the first race! I feel a tag should only mean one thing otherwise it becomes ambiguous what happened during that race

Just wanted to know your opinion :) Xrateddan (talk) 21:38, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

Just a follow up to the last post, in DNS i noticed when you edited the tags i had but in your added a background colour to them, i don't feel this colour has any reason to be there as the page is white by default anyway, does not putting the code save lengthening the document? in terms of kilobytes used to load the document Xrateddan (talk) 21:41, 14 September 2010 (UTC)
