Mike Gregoire

edit

I've put a merge tag on the Mike Gregoire article which I believe you created... I can't see anything notable about him, being the first "first gentleman" is certainly a first but through no real fault of his own. Does this really make him notable per WP:BIO? A mention on the Christine Gregoire page will suffice. You have first call on merging the info, I'll probably do it in a couple of days if you don't get round to it. Deiz 02:52, 25 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yes, that's mine. I put the article up because of an empty link in the spouse box on Gov Gregoire's article. It appears to be the plan around here to provide an article for each US state governor's spouse (new layout, you've seen it I'm sure). You can find this on virtually every incumbent governor's article. A few of these have articles.--Mike 08:40, 25 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

"It seems to be the plan" doesn't automatically override the WP:BIO criteria.. He scores 1800 total / 306 unique googles which is low. But I'll see what the other pages are like and if it really is the way forward then fair enough. Deiz 09:14, 25 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well, I can't argue that Mr. Gregoire is independently remarkable. For consistency's sake, if he doesn't rate, and other governor spouses don't rate, then the whole raftload of governor spouse redlinks (just saw that term for the first time) should be delinked and let them be relinked on a case-by-case basis by whoever thinks they deserve an article. --Mike 09:21, 25 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

I think you've struck gold with that last idea... the tagging of redlinks on names of people that aren't known to be notable by the tagger is a huge source of cruft (crap) in WP these days, you did really well to research up a page but probably ignore those redlinks if you don't immediately know yourself that a person is actually notable... As a general point this isn't a realm of knowledge I have much / any interest or knowledge in so I probably won't get involved in any consistency mission but it would help. The ideal here is that Mike Gregoire should redirect to Christine Gregoire but is unlinked in the infobox and elsewhere on her page. Deiz 21:08, 28 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

I've gone all out and redirected Mike to Christine, and delinked his name in her infobox. By all means you could add a little more about him in her article but... nice one Deizio 03:32, 26 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

There were many problems with this image. It had no real source information, meaning we don't know who the photographer or copyright holder is. It was described as coming from a press kit but licensed under the GFDL, which is extremely unlikely. An editor then changed the licensing information to make a Wikipedia:Fair use claim on it, which, while at least more accurate in terms of not misleading anybody, cannot be done with an unsourced image of a living person per Wikipedia:Fair use criteria.

Someone just needs to find a federal government-employee-taken photograph of this person (or any other freely licensed photo), or request one from her office and email the release to permissions AT wikimedia DOT org. Jkelly 21:14, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

OK, I've just talked with the governor's communications office and they say that the image linked at the bottom of the page [1] is her official photograph and may be used freely. Is the notation of "official portrait" on the governor's official web page sufficient? I think maybe not, because the previous governor's image on his article is definitely a state-created image, not the federal gov't, yet that's what it says. Do we have a slight permissions problem, or maybe the permissions policy needs to take US states into account? I checked WA governors back to Dixy Lee Ray and the images are all incorrectly attributed for permissions purposes. A couple are claimed to be created by the feds when they are clearly official WA portraits, and one is sourced to the WA state guard (for Gardner), of all things --- even though it looks like a photo taken at a barbecue by a private party. Ray's photo is likely the gov's official photo, but was obviously scanned from a newspaper. Geeze, what a hodgepodge. Mike 21:35, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
There's this idea that because the US federal gov't releases material into the public domain, that the states must as well. That is mostly not true, and US state gov't copyright is just like any other copyright, but there's a lot of confusion around it, and people are more likely to go looking for a tag that will avoid the deletion of the "it must be free because it is a state gov't photo" than stopping to consider that it is possible that we can't use it. In any case, with Gregoire's official photo, just have someone at her office email permissions AT wikimedia DOT org stating that the photograph can be used for any purpose and then we can go ahead and use that. Note that this has to include commercial and derivative use; they may not have thought of that when they said "used freely" -- they may just have meant "free of charge". Orphaned fair use image (Image:OzarksAIDSLogo.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:OzarksAIDSLogo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:LFrank_by_PBoss.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. – Quadell (talk) (random) 14:20, 10 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

A {{prod}} template has been added to the article Black Bear Diner, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. MLM articles of interest

edit

I just thought you might be interested in reading some of the articles on the website http://www.pyramidschemealert.org/PSAMain/resources/resources.html . http://www.pyramidschemealert.org/PSAMain/news/MythofMLMIncome.doc.pdf is a interesting read, with an explanation why 99% recruits must fail (if you didn't like the explanations I have already given). Also http://www.pyramidschemealert.org/PSAMain/resources/12tests1.pdf is a good test that you should apply on ACN Inc. Tristan.buckmaster 07:13, 8 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

No, I'm not interested in reading them. If they contain the same kind of fractured logic your pronouncements contain I think I got the word already thanks.

Tristan that test is really good. CLEARLY shows that ACN is an absolutely terrible company with no opportunity for representitives to make money. It's a shame this isnt broadcast on the news daily. I think ACN truly would be finished then. I bet most of the company revenue derives from the $499 representitive fees.--TheEditor22 (talk) 09:56, 27 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

You really cornered Mike there. I bet he did read them but had no answers.--TheEditor22 (talk) 09:57, 27 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Just on the offchance that you have my talk page on your watch list, TheEditor22 (can I call you just 22?), let me disabuse you of the notion that I read Tristan's suggested reading list. I don't feel in the slightest way cornered, either. Do you really expect that an outfit with a domain name like "pyramidschemealert" and pages entitled "MythofMLMIncome" has anything worthwhile to say about MLM? Well, you might expect it to, but I have better use for my time. If I were to suggest a pro-MLM reading list, you would have exactly the same thing to say. Mike (talk) 09:56, 12 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on User:Cyberherbalist/ACN2, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because User:Cyberherbalist/ACN2 is blatant advertising for a company, product, group, service or person that would require a substantial rewrite in order to become an encyclopedia article.

Hi Mike, have you ever walked into a Mc Donalds and have them say to you;

"would you like a bigmac? Oh also, we're selling a $500 franchise today. We dont care who you are, what skills or business aptitude you have, as long as you pay us $500. Basicaly our requirements for acceptance into this franchise are that you are human and over 18. Oh and, you cant use the McDonalds name/logo in any advertising."

You want to have a discussion? A free exchange of ideas and opinions? Then come out of hiding, Mr. Anonymous Coward, and let's do it. I don't feel like debating with a ghost. Mike (talk) 03:47, 27 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Oh I do apologise Mike. My name is Jacniss. You never really answered my question though. Jacniss Hit

Thankyou, Jacniss. No, I didn't answer your question. I wanted to see who I was talking to, as a precondition. I thought I made that clear.

Now that you've made your introduction, the answer to your question is: No, I have never had this experience in a McDonalds. Next question? Mike (talk) 03:20, 28 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Perhaps thats the difference between a legitimate franchise and a multilevel marketing scheme. And when somebody calls a MLM scheme a pyramid scheme thats because it is closer to being a pyramid scheme than any other kind of business. Do refrain from mentioning legitimate franchises such as McDonalds in order to defend the MLM business model because they are completely different. --TheEditor22 (talk) 07:25, 28 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

You brought up McDonalds. Not me. Do you actually have something substantive to say? Mike (talk) 08:17, 28 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

I do. ACN is more of a pyramid than non-MLM companies. Why? Because they have been taken to court with said accusations. I havent seen any non-MLM legitimate companies being taken to court for such reasons. So if it's not a pyramid, it's damn close. (i am now half expecting you to give the story that all business is pyramid shaped)--TheEditor22 (talk) 09:13, 28 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

I might also add that they werent open and shut cases. Clearly the courts had to spend time deliberating for ages over it. And if the idea that ACN being a pyramid scheme was that ridiculous then it would have never reached the courts!--TheEditor22 (talk) 09:17, 28 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Howard Vollum Award, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Stanley Fields (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Notification of automated file description generation

edit

Your upload of File:BlueCheckBoxUnChecked.gif or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. In order to help make better use of the media, an attempt has been made by an automated process to identify and add certain information to the media's description page.

This notification is placed on your talk page because a bot has identified you either as the uploader of the file, or as a contributor to its metadata. It would be appreciated if you could carefully review the information the bot added. To opt out of these notifications, please follow the instructions here. Thanks! File permission problem with File:DanCragg.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:DanCragg.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 12:04, 7 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image File:Historical map comparison showing that Grünhagen and Zielonka Pasłęcka are the same.png

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Historical map comparison showing that Grünhagen and Zielonka Pasłęcka are the same.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 00:01, 2 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use File:Historical map comparison showing that Grünhagen and Zielonka Pasłęcka are the same.png

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Historical map comparison showing that Grünhagen and Zielonka Pasłęcka are the same.png. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 16:14, 6 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Proposed deletion of Mimi Daraphet

edit

The article Mimi Daraphet has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No mention on IMDB as being in anything, so must have been a very minor uncredited role, only verification is from wookiepedia . No significant coverage of anything else she's done.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Speedy deletion nomination of Augustine Peter Curtin

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Augustine Peter Curtin requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://www.benhavenarchives.org/wiki/Augustine_Peter_Curtin. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. The source webpage is released under a Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported (CC BY-NC-SA 3.0), which is not a compatible license. — Diannaa (talk) 02:03, 11 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

You uploaded, File:DavidSherman.jpg, where you either stated that you had permission to upload it or that evidence of such permission would be provided on request. Wikipedia needs the permission to be explicit and proven at the time of upload.

Please read Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission, which advises on how to confirm the permission you obtained from a third party.

It is also advisable to ask the third-party what source attribution they desire, as opposed to marking the image as having been "sent personally".Sfan00 IMG (talk) 11:08, 8 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Anti-hero (film)

edit

The article Anti-hero (film) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Uncited and appears to fail WP:GNG.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Johannes Erxleben moved to draftspace

edit

An article you recently created, Johannes Erxleben, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Hello Mike, I see you ocasionally still pop in for an edit or two. I hope you're well! I'd appreciate it if you could take a look at StarFist series to see if there's any info you can think of adding. Recently there was an AfD for most of the early books in the series and unfortunately it went through. If we amass enough data on them we probably could spin them out into individual articles again.
