IABot Management Interface Bot Job not working
Hi,
I believe you're the awesome developer behind the IABot Management Interface tool.
Can you check if the Bot Job feature is working as intended because I submitted a job request (6964 for Boeing 787 Dreamliner article) in December 27, 2020, and after 1 month and 1 week, the job is still in queued status. In addition, I'm curious what is max size limit that the tool is able to handle for "fix a single page" because I was able to archived Girls' Generation article with prose size of 34,950 characters whereas Twice article 37,908 characters requires bot job. Thanks you — Paper9oll (📣 • 📝) 09:52, 3 February 2021 (UTC)
- Paper9oll, Anything with more than 300 references in an article requires a bot job. As for the queue, it's a dumpster fire I am working to put out right now. —CYBERPOWER (Around) 01:27, 4 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Cyberpower678: Noted, thanks for the information. — Paper9oll (📣 • 📝) 01:28, 4 February 2021 (UTC)

RfA Vote Counter?
Hope you're doing well! I was wondering if you have anything do do with the RfA Vote Counter tool that was originally developed by Scottywong. I know he is not maintaining it anymore but he didn't say who is. If you're not working on it (or cannot), do you know who is maintaining it now? Thanks! - tucoxn\talk 00:55, 5 February 2021 (UTC)
- Answered my own question. I see the Tools are here and the updated AfD counter is here (or directly here). Still hope you're doing well! - tucoxn\talk 16:31, 5 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi. Your bot did several wrong edits about dead links in Persian Wiki like here and here. Ali Pirhayati (talk) 22:29, 5 February 2021 (UTC)
Template:Adminstats subpage updating
I've noticed that Template:Adminstats/Hog Farm has not been updated since January 25, although I have been editing and performing a handful of admin actions. I believe the bot was down for part of that time, but it seems to have been updating other Template:Adminstats subpages the last couple days, so I guess it's on a rotating schedule of which ones it updates. Is there any way to determine when my template subpage will be updated by the bot? I'd kinda like to keep track of how many admin actions I perform and have just noticed that it doesn't seem like the template is getting updated by the bot. Hog Farm Talk 03:29, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
Why was I blocked from "Analyze a page" for adding archives
I have used the bot for years and now this is the second time this year that it blocks me. I used it a couple of times today and now on my third try I get:
Analysis error:
blocked: You have been blocked from editing.
My last update was to Page title: 65th_Infantry_Regiment before I got the terrible message.
https://iabot.toolforge.org/index.php?page=runbotsingle&action=analyzepage
Am I doing something wrong that I don't know? Cheers! --The Eloquent Peasant (talk) 18:58, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
- The Eloquent Peasant, the block isn't originating from the tool. The response is coming directly from Wikipedia for some reason. I would ask someone like User:Anomie why Wikipedia is making an erroneous claim. —CYBERPOWER (Around) 14:03, 7 February 2021 (UTC)
Additional problem on pl.wiki
I had to block IABot on pl.wiki. Turning it on via console did not work and bot continued to operate for the next few minutes until I blocked it. There is also a discussion going at pl.wiki about some of the edits that IABot made since it started operating:
- Just changing http to https – Is it possible to avoid making an edit when it is only supposed to add 2-3 characters?
- Destroying good and working citations
- Adding books to citation without getting permission for this kind of edits – Is it possible to configure the bot to make this kind of edits only after getting the permission at Village Pump?
Thank you! Nadzik (talk) 08:58, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
- Nadzik, changing http to https is an important aspect to internet security. I would high advise against disabling this feature of the bot. Even if it is a minor change, it's a major one in terms of security. Your second link confuses me, the edit was good. The link it fixed was bad. What's the problem here? For the third one, did we not request permission to do this? We filed for permission in the approval process as can be seen here. The bot is approved to link to books of book references, so I'm not sure why this is a problem. —CYBERPOWER (Chat) 17:48, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
- Cyberpower678, 1. I will let you know what the community decides, some people are not keen supporters of that. I totally agree with you. 2. It did fix one link, but it destroyed another one. Look at the bottom of the page and see the errors for yourself (citation no. 3). 3. I see, I was referencing to a Village Pump post from 2017, I can see that you got the approval for linking books to sources. Some people are opposing that because they are worried about the copyright (As I understand there are no copyright violations at Internet Archive?) and that it would be better if bot linked to WorldCat, not a scan of the book somewhere online. I will keep you updated on that. Nadzik (talk) 17:55, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
- Nadzik, For number 2, I see there are multiple definitions of the same reference, but the bot only modified one, causing the error to be thrown. It's a very rare bug, one I have not been able to fix at this time due to technical limitations. For number 3, as I am not a lawyer, I cannot talk about if it is or isn't a copyright violation with any authority. However the digital library, which is where these scans are coming from, uses a process called controlled digital lending which allows Internet Archive to loan out a copy of the book digitally as long as they own the physical copy of the book and do not loan out said physical copy. If the digital library owns two copies, two digital copies can be leant out. The digital copies automatically self-destruct after the checkout period elapses and the book is considered checked in once again. It's a modernized version of how physical libraries loan out their books. —CYBERPOWER (Chat) 18:26, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Cyberpower678:, I understand, so we will just have to watch out for that bug? As to the books, is it possible for the bot to link to WorldCat or does it only link to IA? Other problems mentioned by users include: 1. adding a dead link where the archive was already available. 2. Is it possible that parameter "url" will be linking to the page in these edits? Parameter "strony" is not meant to be a link in our templates. Pleas give me a ping when you answer. Thx! Nadzik (talk) 14:34, 7 February 2021 (UTC)

It links to archive.org book scans. Question: why use WorldCat when the book is available? Compare these examples:
- L'Engle, Madeleine (1974). The Summer of the Great-Grandmother. Farrar, Straus, & Giroux. pp. 119. ISBN 0-374-27174-7.
- L'Engle, Madeleine (1974). The Summer of the Great-Grandmother. Farrar, Straus, & Giroux. p. 119. ISBN 0-374-27174-7.
In the first case, click on "119" and it opens directly to the page being cited. In the second case, there is nothing but general information about the book. They are completely different. WorldCat does not have books, only information about books. Archive.org has one of the largest archives of books in the world. -- GreenC 03:31, 20 March 2021 (UTC)

IABot not working on dewiki since 2 months?!
Hi! I've tried to analyse a page, which definitely had a dead link in it, and after 5 minutes, it finished... and got nothing. I looked into the contribs and he was dead since December 7, I have found nothing where it's cleared for that, so I just wanted to notify you and ask, if I did not see something, what happened there? -- WoelfiVW (talk) 19:50, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
Note
Hi. I got a few and up to Level 4 warnings on my talk page. I did not intentionally remove those notices. After talking to an admin who advised against no consensus afd closures, I reversed a few and relisted the discussion which automatically removed those headings. I forgot to also undo these changes on article pages. -- HistoricalAccountings (talk) 06:27, 10 February 2021 (UTC)

simple wikipedia page on cognitive behavioural therapy
Hi!
I sent you an email about this but now I've located the talk page. I'm a uni student and I have to edit a wiki page for an assignment. I've chosen the simple wiki page on cognitive-behavioural therapy which you last edited. I would really appreciate it if you notified me of any edits or preferably made any edits after the 18th - once the assignment is over.
Thanks in advance! :}
Sadiya203 (talk) 11:38, 11 February 2021 (UTC)Sadiya203
- Sadiya203, (talk page stalker) the last edit to simple:Cognitive-behavioral therapy is the bot User:InternetArchiveBot. This bot is operated by this user, but won't necessarily know if said bot will edit the page again for the time being. The nature of a wiki is that it is changeable and also anyone can edit at any time (unless the page is protected). This means that anyone could edit the page in this time. If you want see new edits to the page, you can load the the revision history of the page to see if there are new updates (https://simple.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Cognitive-behavioral_therapy&action=history). Alternatively, you could add that page to your watchlist. To do that click on the star symbol near "View history". It should go from a star with a blue outline to star filled with blue. Once this is done, the page is on your watchlist, and recent edits to that page will show up on simple:Special:Watchlist. Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 12:00, 11 February 2021 (UTC)

Cyberbot warning about reverted BADNAC closes
Cybertbot is apparently warning users who deleted AfD notices following NAC closures which were later reverted. See Northern Virginia United FC for an example. It apparently warned the same user previously after they made a different BADNAC which was later reverted. While users should be cautioned against BADNACs, there is no reason for the bot to "double warn" them about removing the AfD template from pages when they closed the discussion improperly. Review the page and relevance please refer to the state of Tripura, India and learn about the current affairs of Tripura Politics. Especially the TTAADC which is one of the prominent autonomous District counvil of India. Thank you Brendonmotom (talk) 15:00, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
About the Page Jagadish Debbarma
One user Robert Mccleon was the one who simply proposed the page for no notability. But as you also tagged it, please go through the references, independent sources provided for reliability. It seems those who have reviewed have not done enough but just tagged AFD it with out giving any reason. I hope that answers your "why". Thank you Bro Brendonmotom (talk) 15:11, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
- Brendonmotom, I did no such thing. You have the wrong user. —CYBERPOWER (Chat) 15:33, 21 April 2021 (UTC)

InternetArchiveBot can be disabled or enabled by everyone
I think only bot operator and wiki administrators should be able to manage it. --忒有钱 (talk) 18:53, 23 April 2021 (UTC)
- 忒有钱, it can be managed by users that are autoconfirmed. I think it is reasonable to do it this way. —CYBERPOWER (Message) 11:56, 26 April 2021 (UTC)
bots
I've never coded a bot, so I'm not sure what's proper, as such I hope you'll forgive me if I'm off base on this. Should this be mentioned on the IAbot talk page (User talk:InternetArchiveBot)? — Ched (talk) 17:57, 24 April 2021 (UTC)
- As a follow-up, I've only recently started using this, and only on limited articles. Mostly retired NFL players, NASCAR drivers, .. people who aren't really active in their perspective fields. Also on older movies (pre-2010). I haven't, and am not likely to, use it on any of the "current affairs" articles simply because the refs change so much. If there are any "don't use this bot on these" type of good practices I should know about - could you point me to them? (I already did read through the meta...FAQ) Thanks, both for your time - and for the great work you do in providing us tools to improve the project. — Ched (talk) 18:01, 24 April 2021 (UTC)
- Ched, I'm not aware of any good practices for this tool aside from using common sense. The tool is designed to prevent you from doing more than 5 pages per minute, so you can't really abuse it. —CYBERPOWER (Message) 11:59, 26 April 2021 (UTC)
- Ched, no not really. —CYBERPOWER (Message) 11:57, 26 April 2021 (UTC)
Unnecessary messages on talk pages
Hi! I work mainly on the Spanish Wikipedia, and very often I encounter talk pages that consist entirely or almost entirely of messages by the InternetArchiveBot, each announcing that some link has been archived. So I have a few questions:
- Is this really necessary? Why doesn't an edit summary suffice, like every other bot?
- Was this a requested behavior? Has this concern been raised before? Could you link me to the discussion?
- Can this behavior be disabled on a per-wiki basis?
Despite this questioning, I thank you for developing this useful bot. Kind regards, Sophivorus (talk) 01:55, 25 April 2021 (UTC)
- Sophivorus, as far as I remember when the bot was introduced, talk page messages were asked for. This can be turned off if the wiki desires. —CYBERPOWER (Around) 12:00, 26 April 2021 (UTC)
IABot Management Interface error
@Cyberpower678: Hi there, I keep getting this error blocked: You have been blocked from editing.
when I try to Analyze a page, the tool will run for a few seconds or minutes before it returned that error. I have retry it couple of times in various hours in 24 April 2021, however it didn't solve by itself. Normally, I would get this error randomly and after 3-4 hours, it will disappear and the archiving will work again. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 14:50, 24 April 2021 (UTC)

If I'm blocked[5], how am I posting here right now? And BLP violations need to be reported. If an administrator is more concerned with somebody's block log than BLP violations they shouldn't be an administrator around here....William, is the complaint department really on the roof? 20:45, 6 May 2021 (UTC)
