Hi Cyphoidbomb I wanted to see how does it feel being blocked? Can you block for an hour? Lol. ─ The Aafī on Mobile (talk) 20:31, 9 March 2021 (UTC)
- @AafiOnMobile: Seriously? I'm happy to do it if you want to. Note that it will show up in your block history, but I'll write it up as an issue of curiosity. Confirm and I'll push the buttons. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 20:55, 9 March 2021 (UTC)
- Fine. Here on my mobile account, not the major one. I just wanted to see how it feels. One hour. Thanks ─ The Aafī on Mobile (talk) 03:48, 10 March 2021 (UTC)

Including critic reviews in wikipedia articles
Is this really important to mention what critics or people generally think about the subject? If yes, then Tony Kakkar's article should also mention them as his songs are usually trolled by a majority of the public. Amratjeet Singh Insan (talk) 07:47, 10 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Amratjeet Singh Insan: We typically wouldn't care what the general populace thinks about a subject unless that feeling was reported upon by reliable secondary sources in a significant way. Internet trolls aren't by themselves interesting, and these days, there are way too many arseholes on social media who complain about stuff. Anyhow, my talk page isn't really the place to discuss this, Talk:Tony Kakkar would be the intuitive place for you to discuss this with others interested in Kakkar. Sidharth Shukla
Hi User:Cyphoidbomb there is this user as you know he mostily edits Sidharth Shukla User:Cristmess619127 who is keep reverting my edits when i am trying to make Sidharth Shukla's page a bit better with better changes. All i did is trying to make the introduction short and simple and told him don't need to add every show he has done there but he seems to not understand and is edit warring with me and making it a big problem. I removed Khatron Ke Khiladi and made it bit better but he is still keep rv it. Please could you explain him. thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.158.70.191 (talk) 21:05, 11 March 2021 (UTC)
- You need to work it out with them, since this is a community editing project. The back-and forth is going to wind up with you both blocked, and you're both going to wind up irritating each other. So try working toward a common goal. Instead of looking at other Indian articles, why don't you look at how quality articles of WP:GA or WP:FA status have treated various actor biographies. Or find some filmographies at WP:FL. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 21:48, 11 March 2021 (UTC)

Suspected sockpuppet per Edit filter log
abuse filter log of my talk page says, "14:15, 9 March 2021: Jammumylove (talk | contribs) triggered an edit filter, performing the action "edit" on User talk:TheAafi. Actions taken: none; Filter description: Persistent sockpuppetry". Three diffs in the log indicate this thing. I was earlier suspicious of their activities. But I don't know where do I report this one? I am not able to identify the master. But the manner of AfDing looks like to Numan765 who similarly AfDed a bunch of my articles earlier, but the commenting looks like to Ad Meliora, see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Majid Ali Jaunpuri ─ The Aafī on Mobile (talk) 12:41, 12 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi User:Cyphoidbomb want to tell you that I am thinking that this user User:Cristmess619127 has been not using his account but changing his IP address as if you see he uploaded a image on Rubina Dilaik here [2] and here he possibly edited as an ip in the page here [3] same in Sidharth Shukla. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.158.70.191 (talk) 18:41, 14 March 2021 (UTC) [4] User:2402:3A80:A32:1557:DDB0:4348:8AFD:6FCD
Honestly Sir, it is really difficult to create WP:BLP article doing a complete research on the subject. And I have made sure to do that with every WP:BLP I have created.
Recently, there is a lot of disruptions caused by one user Fizconiz in my WP:BLP article on Hitesh Bharadwaj. Yes I know about the RESTRICTIONS of adding the DOB of a subject in a WP:BLP article.
But the source I have provided has ENOUGH VERIFICATIONS (I had clarified it with other admins who are my friends here) for the dob of the subject. Only problem is that, Times of India has not clearly mentioned out that the subject had turned 25 years old that year (which is 2016). (I had myself confirmed it from them and they had cleared it out through their e-mail)
The user Fizconiz is indeed trying to DOMINATE as if the editor knows better than others and now the article is becoming more of the war of words through this edit war between the edits of us both.
Please, Sir, being an admin can you please do something to put an end to this! --Aleyamma38 (talk) 07:18, 16 March 2021 (UTC)

Some new users and IPs (possibly the same person) changing sourced birthday of the subject and edit warring. Initially an IP [6], then came a new user [7], after being reverted with a message to engage in talk page discussion, they came up with an unreliable source 'Lallantop', disregarding mainstream news sources like Hindustan Times, Indian Express [8]. I opened a discussion here, but they wouldn't reply. Now another set of user/IP is restoring/unreliably changing her birthday [9], [10]. Even yesterday, 18 March, reliable sources like HT and India TV News were celebrating her birthday, I've linked them here. I believe a page protection is required. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 06:49, 19 March 2021 (UTC)

- Well, maybe the sudden change in the conversation on their talk page displays your avoidance of impression for personal attacks where you said it's not a personal attack (which it obviously is) and then went on to discuss residence, occupation, religion, and so on, hoping that the attacks get masked. Aditi Rao Hydari
Hi - hope you're doing well. Just letting you know that re:[22] - this is merely an attempt by the actress to deny roles early on in her career. Maybe to cut age. Also maybe to stop weird publicity coming her way of starring opposite father (Prajapathi) and son (Hey Sinamika). The full movie is on YouTube and a decent review is here [23] confirming that she played the female lead and not a 'dancer'. Neutral Fan (talk) 19:09, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Neutral Fan: Hey there, thanks for the note. How many scenes would you say she's in? I saw the dance sequence, I saw someone that might have been her a little before that sequence (around 35:30 in light green?). In the hospital scene around 1:11:12 is she the one in the pink? The film is mostly a "sausage fest", so it's difficult for me to determine who the leads are, but if she is in multiple roles where she delivers lines, then I agree that "did not act" should be removed. As for whether she is the "heroine" of the film, that seems a bit of an exaggeration on Sify's part, but that's not really germane here. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 19:55, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
- So, definitely a 'sausage fest'. She arrives first at 32:55 in a car and interacts with a number of characters in the following minutes. She then has a romantic phone call with Mammootty around 38:00, meets him around 41:00. She appears in several scenes thereafter including at 1:09:00, 1:33:00, 1:38:00 etc. She actually doesn't have a dance number - so not sure why she'd try and belittle this role like that. It's clear that she's the romantic lead here, rather than Kadhal Sandhya (who I guess plays M's sister). Neutral Fan (talk) 20:29, 26 March 2021 (UTC)

77Survivor and genres
I do not understand how he identifies genres. Or maybe he is just an obsessive action fan, to the point that he labels every film he finds even mild action in as an action film in the lead, removing/sidelining other genres. But then action is considered essential to make Indian films commercially viable. Perhaps he treats certain genres as contentious labels (or loaded language) such as crime and masala. See his edits on Alex Pandian (here), Mankatha (here) and Thaanaa Serndha Koottam (here) as examples. Alex Pandian is particularly shocking since one of its actors described the genre on page 8. What to do? --Kailash29792 (talk) 12:45, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Kailash29792: Silly question, but have you asked them? I know from my perspective as a wikignome, we often have people who try to stuff multiple genres together, erroneously thinking that we're supposed to point out every narrative element or cinematic quality employed, like neo-noir coming-of-age period action thriller. Sometimes this is because they're ignorant, other times it's people trolling. Per MOS:FILM, we should be indicating the primary genre and maybe a secondary genre if relevant, but some people are obsessed with genre classifications. My only other major thought is that we should be going by how the majority of sources describe a film if possible. So, if you think that the editor is doing something contrary to these general ideas, you should talk to them. I don't think that most of the regulars are terribly difficult to approach. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 20:59, 29 March 2021 (UTC)

Edit Wars Diffs
As you had asked, I am providing you the WP:DIFFs of the edit wars here!
- The WP:DIFFs of the edit wars created in the article of Hitesh Bharadwaj are here [29]
- Plus, there has also been PERSISTENT DISRUPTIVE EDITING over a SINGLE SENTENCE in the article of Udaariyaan for which the WP:DIFFs are here: [30]. It was really weird to see that so many editors were focused on editing that sentence ALONE! from the moment I added it, when there were so many other sections in the SAME ARTICLE which required ATTENTION.
- One more request, the PLOT section of the article Udaariyaan is too long as the editors are DETAILED EPISODIC SUMMARIES. I wish you do something about that too. Thanks--Aleyamma38 (talk) 19:25, 30 March 2021 (UTC)

IP edits
This IP and its predecessor, looks like some old editor with POV. They seem to be in a mission to bring down specific films which are possibly related somehow (directors, company, etc) [32] [33] [34], at the same time push some other articles like this with crappier source, possible POV with this director. Today made some changes that were unexplained [35], I restored one of the the sourced part though. Here as well, they removed sourced content ad replaced with some other. Also added a commentary. I wonder if there was anyone like them that got blocked. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 07:59, 10 April 2021 (UTC)

Hi Cyphoidbomb - as you are already well aware, we are suffering mass genre vandalism from Chennai, Tamil Nadu. What can we do about this?
I assume the number of IPs that have been used would make a range block too large?

Bttowadch SPI
I try not to poke and prod, but any chance you could look at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Bttowadch? I'm about 99% sure HaseenZindagi is the latest Bttowadch sock, but it's been over a month and no CU action yet. The cleanup won't be fun and is just getting more complicated. Generally useful edits, but too much hype and promotional and honestly, I don't want to get into reviewing all of their edits - that's why Bttowadch was blocked in the first place (plus copyvio...). Thanks. Ravensfire (talk) 16:43, 16 April 2021 (UTC)
Kanara is an obsolete word and barely anyone recognizes it as so, while Karavali is how it is identified. I am local resident. I wish to do it myself but it says "The page could not be moved, for the following reason:
The page could not be moved: a page of that name already exists, or the name you have chosen is not valid.
Please choose another name, or use Requested moves to ask for the page to be moved.
Do not manually move the article by copying and pasting it; the page history must be moved along with the article text."
since Karavali is a page redirecting to Kanara itself. I am copy pasting this text to other seniors I know, so don't be surprised if anyone does it before you. Thank you.

- Consensus was reached to deprecate Wikipedia:Editor assistance.
- Following a Request for Comment the Book namespace was deprecated.
- Wikimedia previously used the IRC network Freenode. However, due to changes over who controlled the network with reports of a forceful takeover by several ex-staff members, the Wikimedia IRC Group Contacts decided to move to the new Libera Chat network. It has been reported that Wikimedia related channels on Freenode have been forcibly taken over if they pointed members to Libera. There is a migration guide and Wikimedia discussions about this.
- After a Clarification request, the Arbitration Committee modified Remedy 5 of the Antisemitism in Poland case. This means sourcing expectations are a discretionary sanction instead of being present on all articles. It also details using the talk page or the Reliable Sources Noticeboard to discuss disputed sources.

- Consensus has been reached to delete all books in the book namespace. There was rough consensus that the deleted books should still be available on request at WP:REFUND even after the namespace is removed.
- An RfC is open to discuss the next steps following a trial which automatically applied pending changes to TFAs.
- IP addresses of unregistered users are to be hidden from everyone. There is a rough draft of how IP addresses may be shown to users who need to see them. This currently details allowing administrators, checkusers, stewards and those with a new usergroup to view the full IP address of unregistered users. Editors with at least 500 edits and an account over a year old will be able to see all but the end of the IP address in the proposal. The ability to see the IP addresses hidden behind the mask would be dependent on agreeing to not share the parts of the IP address they can see with those who do not have access to the same information. Accessing part of or the full IP address of a masked editor would also be logged. Comments on the draft are being welcomed at the talk page.
- The community authorised COVID-19 general sanctions have been superseded by the COVID-19 discretionary sanctions following a motion at a case request. Alerts given and sanctions placed under the community authorised general sanctions are now considered alerts for and sanctions under the new discretionary sanctions.

This includes, but is not limited to, enforcing sectioned comments, word/diff limits and moratoriums on a particular topic from being brought in an RfC for up to a year.

A recently closed Request for Comment (RFC) reached consensus to remove Autopatrolled from the administrator user group. You may, similarly as with Edit Filter Manager, choose to self-assign this permission to yourself. This will be implemented the week of December 13th, but if you wish to self-assign you may do so now. - Following consensus at the 2021 RfA review, the autopatrolled user right has been removed from the administrators user group; admins can grant themselves the autopatrolled permission if they wish to remain autopatrolled.
- Additionally, consensus for proposal 6C of the 2021 RfA review has led to the creation of an administrative action review process. The purpose of this process will be to review individual administrator actions and individual actions taken by users holding advanced permissions.
- Following the 2021 Arbitration Committee elections, the following editors have been appointed to the Arbitration Committee: Beeblebrox, Cabayi, Donald Albury, Enterprisey, Izno, Opabinia regalis, Worm That Turned, Wugapodes.
- The functionaries email list (functionaries-en lists.wikimedia.org) will no longer accept incoming emails apart from those sent by list members and WMF staff. Private concerns, apart from those requiring oversight, should be directly sent to the Arbitration Committee.
How we will see unregistered users
Hi!
You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.
When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.
Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.
If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.
We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.
Thank you. /Johan (WMF)
