Welcome to the Wikipedia!

edit

Welcome to the Wikipedia, Da-rb! And thanks for removing the extraneous e-mail address from the David Kelly article. Hope you enjoy editing here and becoming a Wikipedian! Here are a few perfunctory tips to hasten your acculturation into the Wikipedia experience:

And some odds and ends: Boilerplate text, Brilliant prose, Cite your sources, Civility, Conflict resolution, How to edit a page, How to write a great article, Pages needing attention, Peer review, Policy Library, Utilities, Verifiability, Village pump, Wikiquette, and you can sign your name on any page by typing 4 tildes: ~~~~.

Best of luck, Da-rb, and have fun! Ombudsman 00:15, 11 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Userboxes

edit

Don't get *too* overexcited with the whole userbox thing. And what is this:

SUFC This user supports Scunthorpe United

Haha! Hope all is well. --Thegraham 23:03, 5 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Now that is really sad! I hope it was booked to my favourite project ;-) Thegraham 17:47, 12 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Hey! How do you make userboxes? I need one to signal me out as a Northamptonshire boy... Superlinus 16:50, 1 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi, seeing you are interested in football this is an invitation to contribute to this discussion to clarify certain issues about football player notability. I think clearer guidelines are needed to avoid repeated inappropriate nominations for deletion and time consuming discussions. Cheers! StephP 20:13, 29 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

James Milner Off the pitch section

edit

Over the past few weeks I’ve been researching desperately to try and expand this section. But for the most part I can only find very trivial facts. Another user has told me that off the pitch sections are not mandatory and in this case it would be best to remove it completely. I’m not so sure, however minor his off the pitch activities might be it would be useful to give an idea of what he’s like as a person.

Please give me your views. Should it be expanded, removed completely or charged in some other way. Please give your views in the Milner Off the pitch section on my talk page. Buc 16:43, 16 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Notability of non-playing footballers (AfD:Paul Rodgers (footballer))

edit

Hello! You contributed to AfD:Paul Rodgers by voting to keep him. As you may know, WP:FOOTY is currently working to finalize a Notability criteria. One of the points of the current suggestion that are still being debated is more or less a translation of AfD:Paul Rodgers. I'm now trying to come up with a suggestion that summarizes this AfD, and would like you to comment on my interpretation of your arguments, and perhaps even discuss a suggestion. Thank you! Scunthorpe Utd

edit

I feel it is worth mentioning that I actually support Scunthorpe United myself, so you know my intentions are well meant on the article. Tom Green (talk) 20:55, 23 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Scunthorpe United 09-10 season article

edit

Hey,

I've been perusing some stuff on the WikiProject Football page and there's a standing request for a Scunthorpe United season article for this season. I noticed you were a Scunthorpe fan and a quite regular user, with a past involvement in making season articles, and I was wondering if you were interested in this request. If it's a bit too much work for you I'd be happy to create it and bring it up to date, but I'd prefer to then have an actual Scunthorpe fan foster the article and keep it updated. I'd do this if it were necessary, but I just think the article would be better served by someone such as yourself. If you are interested, or just want to discuss the issue in question, do give me a bell on my talk page. Falastur2 Talk 15:36, 7 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia Help Survey

edit

Hi there, my name's Peter Coombe and I'm a Wikimedia Community Fellow working on a project to improve Wikipedia's help system. At the moment I'm trying to learn more about how people use and find the current help pages. If you could help by filling out this brief survey about your experiences, I'd be very grateful. It should take less than 10 minutes, and your responses will not be tied to your username in any way.

Thank you for your time,

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Phonogram (comics), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Money for Nothing. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Invite to the African Destubathon

edit

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:13, 6 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Ways to improve Daisy Johnson (writer)

edit

Thanks for creating Daisy Johnson (writer).

A New Page Patroller Rosguill just tagged the page as having some issues to fix, and wrote this note for you:

The lead should include some more information about what makes the subject notable, such as some awards that they did win. There's also some content at the end of the Biography section that is debatably WP:TRIVIA and should not be included.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can reply over here and ping me. Or, for broader editing help, you can talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.

Delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.
