Welcome to Wikipedia!

edit

Hello Davewild/Archive 1, welcome to Wikipedia!

Here are some tips:

If you feel a change is needed, feel free to make it yourself! Wikipedia is a wiki, so anyone (yourself included) can edit any article by following the Edit this page link. Wikipedia convention is to be bold and not be afraid of making mistakes. If you're not sure how editing works, have a look at How to edit a page, or try out the Sandbox to test your editing skills.

If, for some reason, you are unable to fix a problem yourself, feel free to ask someone else to do it. Wikipedia has a vibrant community of contributors who have a wide range of skills and specialties, and many of them would be glad to help. As well as the wiki community pages there are IRC Channels, where you are more than welcome to ask for assistance.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask me on my talk page. Thanks and happy editing, Alphax τεχ 09:22, 9 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Unsigned remark

Do you know the difference between vandalism and accurate comments on the lack of correct sources for the lies put on the Greek pages? I think not, you are just an idiot

your quickness to catch vandals is impressive, does that reflect another part of your life....minute man

Great work

edit

Great work with the British council elections. A couple points: in general we only capitalize proper names in titles. For instance, for United Kingdom general election, 2005 we don't capitalize the word general or election. The same goes for council elections. Secondly we only really need separate results pages when the main article on an election is too long. Rather than have 2004 Rugby Council election results, why not just have a 2004 Rugby Council election article, that covers both the results and any information there might be on the campaign. I've gone ahead and moved some of them. - SimonP 19:52, 16 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Can I try to persuade you to have a go at working on the big overall local elections pages like UK local elections, 2003 and UK local elections, 2004, many of which are incomplete/don't exist. Morwen - Talk 14:29, 12 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Lytham St Annes

edit

Dave, why did you revert to previous text?

Thanks for your comment about the Lytham St Annes page. I had a couple of problems with those edits I reverted, one was the remark about Blackpool being shabby which seemed completly unneccessary. The other was the statement about more and more younger families relocating here which I do not know of any evidence to back it up. I found this link to the population data from the 2001 census which shows the population is older than the national average. [1]. I don't think these statements should be in the article without some evidence to back them up. I have made an edit to the paragraph to try and soften up the language and would be interested in your thoughts. Davewild 07:32, 19 April 2006 (UTC) Dave, I think your amendments to my text were both unecessary and inaccurate. I have lived in Lytham for the past 32 years and your 2001 census data is now obviously out of date and should not be used for current observations. Do you actually live in the town?? Also, try to use a dictionary before submitting your comments.Reply

I see that you have taken my edit out again and gone back to your previous edit on Lytham St Annes. I do live near Lytham St Annes, visiting often, and cannot see any evidence to back up your statement. As we do not seem to be able to reach agreement I have posted on Wikipedia:Third Opinion in the hope of getting another opinion to resolve this dispute. Davewild 17:47, 21 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

West Lancashire Elections

edit

Dave - I have created the 2006 West Lancashire election pages following the link from your main page. Good work there! I have made the error of creating the equivilent Preston page as an "overall" rather than splitting up the years, but Preston City Council elections is there for your viewing and comment.

There's a group of Iranians POV pushing on the article you just edited. A recalcitrant vandal

edit

Hi Davewild. Appreciate your rev. at 09.19 25 March 2007 of "unexplained blanking" of article Telectronics. For info the user 124.168.16.206 who blanked the article is an IInet user of Sydney, Australia (IINet is a very small ISP) and is almost certainly the the same IInet user who, as 203.214.xxx.xx, has repeatedly edited Telectronics and its Discussion with unsigned unverifiable comments. At 09.17 25 March the same 124.168.16.206 also added unsigned comment to Talk:Telectronics with a heading "Jeffcoat and Trainor published liars", which to me seems to be libellous and possibly should be permanently erased. The same person created the bio article Noel Gray, a reading of which may be illuminating. He has also several times recently attacked the article Nucleus Limited, and my user page. I know the person from some 32 years ago so it is improper for me to revert his edits as I could be accused of violating WP:NPOV. If you would be prepared, as several other contributors are, to 'keep an eye' on the articles Telectronics, Nucleus Limited and my user page for vandalism or edits which do not comply with the rules & guidelines, it would be beneficial to Wikipedia. Hertfordshire local elections

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Hertfordshire local elections, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Your edits to List of Leaders In 1025

You reverted the entry I posted listing Young Jeezy as King of Glywysing in 1025. However, in his song "Steel Rule", Jeezy sings "Glywysing nigga/ Run it like track/ Still pumping that crack/ Nine nine oh and half buck three years/ Straight steeling 11th century Welsh ears". If you can provide evidence that Young Jeezy didn't rule Glywysing in 1025, then I'll pay attention, otherwise I will revert. 86.31.51.132 22:09, 29 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

There's no right way of doing it, you can either use Harvard or the inline system, that's your call, but they do need to be full (i.e Who wrote it, when it was written, where it can be found...) There's some easy to use templates at WP:CIT. Also there's a neat utility at this page where you just need to cut and paste the URL, add some info and, hey presto, it generates it for you. Thanks for the head's up - I have listed it at AFD. The initial prod wasn't contested, realistically, it was removed by a somewhat "odd" change of the page to a redirect - so the actual issue of the first prod was never dealt with. I had assumed since this was the case that an additional prod would not be out of place. SkierRMH 22:38, 23 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Howl griff, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Howl griff is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot 19:28, 5 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Regarding anon-user 194.242.159.218, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:194.242.159.218#September_2007, you gave him his last warning at 19:20 September 7, he has persisted vandalizing: From his history:

Malta in lists of State leaders

edit

I notice you have been adding Malta into a number of List of State Leaders in xxxx articles. I am very dubious about Malta being in the articles you have entered it into as according to our own Malta article it became a British Dominion in 1800 not an independent state. These article are for states, while I would have thought Malta would have been better in the List of Colonial governors in 1800, etc. articles as it was a dominion at the time. Davewild 17:54, 8 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

    • Thanks for your note, Dave. I see your point, but I am not sure that I agree that the lists of State leaders should not include any countries that were colonies at a particular period. A governor is not a state leader in his or her own right, but a representative of a particular monarch, or at best a viceroy. The head of state remains the monarch him or herself. Also, for students of history who might want to use these lists as a snapshot of what was happening in Europe in any given year, lists that exclude colonies fail to tell the complete story. Of course, if the WikiProject has discussed and ruled on the question of colonies, please advise, and I will remove my recent edits. However, I note that presumably the existing lists for 1795 to 1798 would also need to be revised to delete similar entries for the Colony of NSW, and there may be other examples that you might want to take a look at. Would you agree then that Malta should appear in the 1530 to 1798 lists, as a sovereign principality ruled by the Knights of Malta, then disappear from the lists until 1964, when it gained independence from the UK? lamato(talk) 18:46, 8 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your reply, the wikiproject generally settled on putting all states that have a de facto independence into the Lists of state leaders articles. (e.g List of colonial governors in 2007 and List of state leaders in 2007. This would certainly mean that Malta between 1530 and 1798 should be on the list as the Knight Hospitallers (as I note it is on a couple of the articles already such as List of state leaders in 1747. However between 1798 and independence it would be better put on the colonies article. Putting a short note in the 1798 article explaining what happened and pointing to the colonies list seems sensible. I have already begun removing some of the New South Wales entries as they quite clearly were not states at the time. (the amount of work cleaning up these lists is huge as the project has not been very active recently!) Davewild 19:09, 8 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Election titles

edit

Hi! Just FYI, you're naming election articles slightly incorrectly: It should not be "Area council election year", but "Area council election, year"... —Nightstallion 11:24, 11 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your comment regarding the titles of the election articles I have created. I have started moving them to the correct titles and will correct them alll over the next few days. Davewild 18:14, 11 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
