We Dance On - source beat - cite doesn't mention genre - check arc
N-Dubz singles
Ok I won't remove those genres for now, I don't want to start an edit war. However, I hope it'll be ok if I manage to replace those unsourced genres with sourced ones. --Blueberry72 (talk) 20:37, 1 July 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Blueberry72, Generally speaking the genres should stay sourced or not - I'm aware of there being edit wars with these but so far there's been no edit wars with these and it's not like IPs are changing these on a daily basis so for the time being I'm not seeing a reason to replace or remove them,
- There's plenty of articles here with the genres unsourced so there doesn't look to be a consensus to have these sourced unless absolutely necessary, Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 20:44, 1 July 2020 (UTC)
- I would like to point out that unsourced genres often stay in the infobox only because the page is rarely visited or simply because they were accepted passively, but they constitute an original research. Claims of music critics are worth more than the opinion of an user. Blueberry72 (talk) 21:10, 1 July 2020 (UTC)
- Fair point, My sort of assumption was that news sources could be wrong too however at the end of the day sourced is better than not. Thanks –Davey2010Talk 00:19, 2 July 2020 (UTC)
- Don't worry, I usually cite only professional reviews for genres. Thanks. Blueberry72 (talk) 10:28, 2 July 2020 (UTC)
- Brilliant, many thanks, –Davey2010Talk 16:30, 2 July 2020 (UTC)

Editing news 2020 #3
Seven years ago this week, the Editing team made the visual editor available by default to all logged-in editors using the desktop site at the English Wikipedia. Here's what happened since its introduction:
- The 50 millionth edit using the visual editor on desktop was made this year. More than 10 million edits have been made here at the English Wikipedia.
- More than 2 million new articles have been created in the visual editor. More than 600,000 of these new articles were created during 2019.
- Almost 5 million edits on the mobile site have been made with the visual editor. Most of these edits have been made since the Editing team started improving the mobile visual editor in 2018.
- The proportion of all edits made using the visual editor has been increasing every year.
- Editors have made more than 7 million edits in the 2017 wikitext editor, including starting 600,000 new articles in it. The 2017 wikitext editor is VisualEditor's built-in wikitext mode. You can enable it in your preferences.
- On 17 November 2019, the first edit from outer space was made in the mobile visual editor.
- In 2019, 35% of the edits by newcomers, and half of their first edits, were made using the visual editor. This percentage has been increasing every year since the tool became available.

Removing report at UAA
Hello. I noticed that you reverted one of my edits to UAA. I added a new report there, but also removed some previous reports that were already declined but still remained there for some more hours. Did you check the diff? LSGH (talk) (contributions) 17:49, 4 July 2020 (UTC)
- Hi LSGH, You removed "declined" reports whilst reporting another user with the edit summary "Adding report for KarlMarxTD" ..... You made no mention of removing declined reports .... I (nor {{u|Praxidicae)) and anyone else) can not read your mind.
- Please leave the "declined-removals" to the admins - I've been here coming on 10 years and even I don't do work such as that (because I'm not an admin), Stick to reporting and leave the removals to admins.
- Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 17:58, 4 July 2020 (UTC)
- Just leave the removals to the bot (User:HBC AIV helperbot5). It's much more hardworking than the admins. Bishonen | tålk 00:22, 5 July 2020 (UTC).
- I once saw someone remove such kind of reports because they were already "seen by too many eyes", so I thought it was fine to do so. I chose to remove those at the same time that I reported another user because I do not want to do multiple edits and flood the revision history. The reports that I tried to remove are still there, while others continue to add reports. I don't think the bot removes reports that have been declined, but it does remove those that have been acted on. LSGH (talk) (contributions) 03:43, 5 July 2020 (UTC)
- LSGH then raise whatever issue there might be with the bot to the bots owner, 2 edits is not flooding the history. Happy editing. –Davey2010Talk 09:35, 5 July 2020 (UTC)

Problems
- The Score extension has been disabled for now. This is because of a security issue. It will work again as soon as the security issue has been fixed. [1]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 7 July. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 8 July. It will be on all wikis from 9 July (calendar).
Future changes
- Abstract Wikipedia is a new Wikimedia project. It will collect language-independent information that can be easily read in different languages. It builds on Wikidata. The name is preliminary. You can read more. [2]
- The iOS Wikipedia app developers are thinking about new experimental tools. If you use an iPhone you can help them by answering the survey.
- Some rules for user signatures will soon be enforced. Lint errors and invalid HTML will no longer be allowed in user signatures. Nested substitution will not be allowed. A link to your user page, user talk page or user contributions will be required. You can check if your signature works with the new rules. This is because the signatures can cause problems for tools or other text on the page.

Recent changes
- Users can thank others for their edits. Checkusers can now see user data related to that action. This can help identify sock puppets who harass others using thanks. [3]
Problems
- Everyone was logged out a couple of weeks ago to fix a security problem. The problem was not entirely fixed. Because of this everyone was logged out once again last week. [4][5]
Changes later this week
- Wikis that are not for one specific language can translate pages. Sometimes parts of translations are outdated or missing. Outdated translations are marked with a pink background. Missing translations will also be marked in the future. This markup can sometimes break things. It can soon be disabled by using
<translate nowrap></translate>
on the source page. [6] - The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 14 July. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 15 July. It will be on all wikis from 16 July (calendar).

Recent changes
- A temporary fix helped wikis make their main pages more mobile friendly. This was in 2012. It has not been recommended since 2017. The mobile main page special casing stopped working 14 July. 60 wikis now have main pages that don't work well on mobile. You can see which ones, how to fix it and how to get help in Phabricator. This is the same problem that was reported in Tech News 2020/24 and 2020/26.
Problems
- There is a problem with the interlanguage links. The interlanguage links are the links that help you find a specific page in a different language. The sorting is broken. The developers are working on a solution. [11]
- Some users keep getting the notifications for the same event. Some of these are old events. [12]
- Some users have trouble logging in. This is probably a browser cookie problem. The developers are working on understanding the problem. If you have trouble logging in you can see the details on Phabricator. [13]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 21 July. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 22 July. It will be on all wikis from 23 July (calendar).
Future changes
- There is a
Printable version
link. This will disappear. That is because web browsers today can create a printable version or show how it will look in print anyway. [14]

Hello, Your recent four edits to the Columbia Transportation constitute vandalism. Please stop this now, as it can result in a block. Best, MTATransitFan (Questions? Comments? Just want to chat? Click here) 00:43, 27 July 2020 (UTC)
- MTATransitFan, Go read WP:Vandalism and once you're finished with that - Go read WP:NOTTRAVELGUIDE. –Davey2010Talk 01:07, 27 July 2020 (UTC)
- Davey2010 how is this a travel guide?? Also, I know what vandalism is. You removed almost the entire page. If the roster is a "travel guide" then the entire MTA Regional Bus Operations fleet is a travel guide. Please do not edit the page anymore. I will bring an admin in if this continues.
- A) Like I said in my edit summary we list fleetlists as prose - not gigantic tables, B) We never include service hours here because they vary from service to service and such things are seen as NOTBUSGUIDE (and plus once outdated they become useless).

- The first features of the Desktop Improvements project are available for logged-in users on all wikis. In order to use them, uncheck Use Legacy Vector in your local or global preferences in section Skin preferences. More improvements are planned. Feedback is welcome.
- On multiple wikis, a UTCLiveClock gadget is available. For wikis that import the gadget directly from mediawiki.org, end users can now choose a different timezone to show instead of UTC.
Problems
- The deployment train for MediaWiki has been blocked this week. [16][17]
- Translation Notification Bot was sending the same message multiple times to every translator. This has been fixed. [18]
- Some users were receiving the same notification multiple times. This has been fixed. [19]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from July 28. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from July 29. It will be on all wikis from JUly 30 (calendar).

Notice of ANI that mentions you in passing
Greetings, FYI I filed a request at WP:ANI titled "CIR-based community-imposed site ban re: RTG". In providing a basis for my request I mentioned you and your prior dealings with this editor. Your input at ANI is optional, i.e., invited but not specifically requested. Thanks for reading. NewsAndEventsGuy (talk) 12:57, 3 August 2020 (UTC)

Problems
- All queries to the Wikidata Query Service failed between 17:50 and 17:59 UTC on Thursday 23 July. Some queries failed during a longer period. [20]
- Interlanguage links were ordered incorrectly for the past few weeks. This problem was also mentioned in Tech News two weeks ago. The problem is now fixed. [21]
- There is a problem with the global preferences for the "Use Legacy Vector" option. Developers are working on fixing it. [22]
- A bug in the Wikibase extension had disabled the "move" and "create" types of protection in the main (Gallery) namespace on Wikimedia Commons. New protections could not be added, and existing protections were not enforced, allowing some page moves and page creations that should not have been possible. This has now been fixed. [23]
Changes later this week
- The video player will change to be simpler and more modern. This week, the current beta feature will become the video player for everyone on most non-Wikipedia wikis. The old player will be removed. [24]
- Users'
global.js
andglobal.css
pages will now also be loaded on the mobile site. You can read documentation for how to avoid applying styles to the mobile skin. [25] - In the MonoBook skin, the
searchGoButton
identifier is nowsearchButton
. This may affect CSS and JS gadgets. Migration instructions can be found in T255953. This was previously mentioned in issue 27. - Bot operators can use Pywikibot to regularly archive discussions. The behavior when the bot uses
counter
to prevent large archives was changed. [26] - The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from August 4. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from August 5. It will be on all wikis from August 6 (calendar).

Orphaned non-free image File:CAM97FM logo.png
Thanks for uploading File:CAM97FM logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 03:26, 8 August 2020 (UTC)
Isuzu Giga
I disagree with the reinstating of the article. It is still of poor quality and only has two sources which are manufacturer sources. It is better off as a redirect. U1 quattro TALK 14:31, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
- I disagree, It needs to be updated and improved sure however I have no knowledge of the truck nor do I speak Japanese. It's better off as an article. –Davey2010Talk 14:43, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
- Then the disagreement is not valid as you have not provided any reason based on which the article should stay. You don't know about the subject neither the sources you have cited are reliable third party sources. U1 quattro TALK 15:55, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
- Like I said to you Yes the article still needs major improvements however you nominated the article on the basis of "An article with no source whatsoever" - The article has since been sourced so therefore you have no valid reason to reinstate the redirect. Also only one person participated in that AFD and did not provide any reason to redirect other than "Redirect: to Isuzu_Motors#Current_commercial_vehicles" so I would say you have no consensus at all to continue the redirect.
- If you have a problem go to AFD. –Davey2010Talk 16:00, 9 August 2020 (UTC)

- Good for you. It's like you're simply looking for a reason to delete it. Why not improve it and source it ?, BEBOLD and all that.
- Just remember U1 we're here to give our readers knowledge ... just remember that. –Davey2010Talk 16:08, 9 August 2020 (UTC)

- And that article fails to provide sound knowledge to readers about the subject matter. Sourcing it a big hindrance as there are no third party sources covering it. That's why I'm against it staying. U1 quattro TALK 16:20, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
- Wrong, The article provides basic knowledge to our readers however it can provide more if people put effort in it, I've done my bit and have done the best I can with it. You didn't state that at that time, You simply stated it was unsourced... so I sourced it ... and now you're still unhappy with it, Either way not my problem. You had a problem = I fixed that problem. Goodbye. –Davey2010Talk 16:32, 9 August 2020 (UTC)

Problems
- The mobile skin displays a message at the bottom of the page about who edited last. This message showed raw wikitext. This has now been fixed. Some messages in Structured Discussions and content translation may still appear as raw wikitext. Developers are working on it. [28]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from August 11. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from August 12. It will be on all wikis from August 13 (calendar).

- Hey Floq, Understood, My apologies for that, Having spent the last 3-4 days on that article alone the last thing anyone wants to see is someone come over and just delete everything .. so that comment was more out of frustration than anything, Still I shouldn't of said it,

- Floq, No worries I'll always hold my hands up and apologise for things I've said or done wrong, I agree - Apologies on here are unfortunately rare,
- No apology necessary - The tone was fine, I'm counting my lucky stars I wasn't blocked to be honest!, Anyway thanks for your message, Hope you and yours have been okay,

Recent changes
- If you revert an edit using the undo link your edit is marked with an
undo
tag. This will now only happen if you don't change anything in the edit window before publishing the undo. This is to keep users from marking edits as undos when they actually do something else. [32] - The new OOUI version will not work with Internet Explorer 8. This means the wikis will look strange and not work well in Internet Explorer 8. This was reported in Tech/News/2020/17. This is because keeping the wikis working with very old browsers creates other problems. [33]
Changes later this week

Car category rangeblock
If you mean the range of the last two IPs here, unfortunately that's too wide of a range to block; that's a /14 range, and the largest range we can block on IPv4 is /16, and even that would carry too much collateral damage in this case. OhNoitsJamie Talk 18:06, 26 August 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Ohnoitsjamie Ah no sorry I didn't mean the range for those 2, I know on some occasions he's come back as the same IP but the end 2 numbers have been different (IE "2.123." has remained the same but numbers after that have been different), I would assume blocking on 2.123 would be almost impossible as would assume that's an entire area etc, (My knowledge of rangeblocks isn't great!),
- Anyway many thanks for your swift help, Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 18:13, 26 August 2020 (UTC)

Reply tool
The Reply tool has been available as a Beta Feature at the Arabic, Dutch, French and Hungarian Wikipedias since 31 March 2020. The first analysis showed positive results.
- More than 300 editors used the Reply tool at these four Wikipedias. They posted more than 7,400 replies during the study period.
- Of the people who posted a comment with the Reply tool, about 70% of them used the tool multiple times. About 60% of them used it on multiple days.
- Comments from Wikipedia editors are positive. ("I think the tool has a significant impact; it saves time to reply while the classic way is to move with a mouse to the Edit link to edit the section or the page which is generally far away from the comment. And the user reaches to the edit box so quickly to use the Reply tool.")[36]
The Editing team released the Reply tool as a Beta Feature at eight other Wikipedias in early August. Those Wikipedias are in the Chinese, Czech, Georgian, Serbian, Sorani Kurdish, Swedish, Catalan, and Korean languages. If you would like to use the Reply tool at your wiki, please tell User talk:Whatamidoing (WMF).
The Reply tool is still in active development. Per request from the Dutch Wikipedia and other editors, you will be able to customize the edit summary. (The default edit summary is "Reply".) A "ping" feature is available in the Reply tool's visual editing mode. This feature searches for usernames. Per request from the Arabic Wikipedia, each wiki will be able to set its own preferred symbol for pinging editors. Per request from editors at the Japanese and Hungarian Wikipedias, each wiki can define a preferred signature prefix in the page MediaWiki:Discussiontools-signature-prefix. For example, some languages omit spaces before signatures. Other communities want to add a dash or a non-breaking space.
New requirements for user signatures
- The new requirements for custom user signatures began on 6 July 2020. If you try to create a custom signature that does not meet the requirements, you will get an error message.
- Existing custom signatures that do not meet the new requirements will be unaffected temporarily. Eventually, all custom signatures will need to meet the new requirements. You can check your signature and see lists of active editors whose custom signatures need to be corrected. Volunteers have been contacting editors who need to change their custom signatures. If you need to change your custom signature, then please read the help page.
Next: New discussion tool
Next, the team will be working on a tool for quickly and easily starting a new discussion section to a talk page. To follow the development of this new tool, please put the New Discussion Tool project page on your watchlist.

- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 8 September. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 9 September. It will be on all wikis from 10 September (calendar).
- All MediaWiki API modules will now use
watchlist
instead ofwatch
. This was inconsistent before. [40]
Future changes
- The Wikipedia Android app team might work on patrolling tools in the future. You can let them know what tools would be useful for you or for less experienced patrollers. See the page on mediawiki.org.
- OTRS will be updated to a new version. This will probably take around two days. OTRS agents will not have access to the system during these days. Emails that come in during the update will be delivered when the update is done. The plan is to start around 08:00 UTC on 14 September. This could change. [41]
- The Wikipedia Android app will send push notifications if users want them. This could help you see for example when someone wrote on your talk page or your edit was reverted. This will need Google Play Services to work. It will also be possible to get the app without Google Play Services but push notifications will not work. Google Play Services is also used to make the app work for Android 4.4 users. [42][43]
- Wikimedia code review could move to GitLab. It would be hosted on Wikimedia servers. You can take part in the consultation.
- Dropdown menus in the Vector skin use a
.menu
class. This will not work in the future. Scripts can usenav ul
instead..vectorTabs
and.vectorMenu
will also not work. Some scripts need to be updated. You can read more in Phabricator.

You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Eagle Radio?
Hi, I'm afraid that user Tod55 has moved page Greatest Hits Radio back to Eagle Radio again without a good reason. Whats his problem?DoctorStrange97 (talk) 15:41, 9 September 2020 (UTC)

Problems
- The Wikipedia apps briefly showed pages without CSS last week. This meant they looked wrong. It was quickly fixed but cached pages without CSS were shown for a few hours. [44][45]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 15 September. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 16 September. It will be on all wikis from 17 September (calendar).

Regarding the logo on Indian Railways
I'll keep this brief, there's text on the train that can't be read clearly at 180px. Is there any particular issue with a logo size value of 250px? Prolix 💬 18:36, 14 September 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Prolix, Up until this very second I had no idea there was even text on the train - Even at 250px I still cannot read the text on it so it would need to be higher than 250px to please everyone however obviously that would be silly, I guess you could always crop that bit of text and put it in the article somewhere if it's really that important however having the logo huge for the sake of some tiny Indian text in the middle is IMHO silly, Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 18:41, 14 September 2020 (UTC)
- Davey2010, I think it reads perfectly fine at 250px, it doesn't need to be any bigger than that. That aside, why is 250px too big? Prolix 💬 18:44, 14 September 2020 (UTC)
- Well good for you. Well because it is ?, The current sizing is adequate and doesn't need enlarging for the sake of some text that English readers wouldn't understand. –Davey2010Talk 18:49, 14 September 2020 (UTC)
- Davey2010, that seems to be a very weak line of reasoning. 250px isn't too big, most logos on wikipedia are that size. Care to point out the MOS that says 250 is too big? Prolix 💬 18:53, 14 September 2020 (UTC)

- @Prolix: It would actually be preferable never to use pixels as pixels are not a unit of length. For example, a Samsung Galaxy S20 has a 6.2" 3200×1440 (563 ppi) display. On a 27" 1080p desktop monitor, you'd only have 82 ppi. Unfortunately MediaWiki only supports relative sizes for thumbnails. (using the upright parameter) If users want to read the text on the train of the Indian Railways logo, they'll have to view the full version. — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 23:53, 15 September 2020 (UTC)
- Alexis Jazz, thank you for that. I hadn't considered how the same image could look vastly different on different devices depending upon the resolution of the screen. Prolix 💬 07:50, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
I need consensus
Hey Davey. Hope you don't mind me asking for help.. See Template talk:Infobox video game#Release date (P577). Seems like a no-brainer to use P577 from Wikidata if the local release parameter is absent, but apparently no.
I don't like starting an RfC here, which I'm guessing is what ferret is hinting at. I don't understand the rules and would prefer nobody attempts to explain them to me. I just get shouted at. I can't, won't and don't understand why "We should change this fucking thing" is wrong and "We should change this thing (new line) Support, we should change this fucking thing" is alright. At least that's how I think it works, and I shan't comprehend it.
Can you help? — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 00:07, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
- Hey Alexis Jazz, Sorry for getting back to you so late, RFCs are the best thing when it comes to getting consensus (they're my go to) however in this case this would appear to be the only label that isn't invoked from Wikidata and so getting consensus for it would seem daft given others have been accepted or added without issue. Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 11:08, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
- Hi again, Ferret has replied and being absolutely honest I didn't understand a single word of their reply, Mainly because I don't work with Templates, So I'm afraid you'll need to get consensus (or talk to someone who works with Templates), Sorry I couldn't be of any help, Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 12:09, 16 September 2020 (UTC)

Recent changes
- There is a new tag for reverted edits. For example you can see it in the recent changes feed or in the article history. It is added to edits when they have been undone, rollbacked or manually reverted to an older version of the page. [46][47]
Changes later this week
- The number of times you can do something in a period of time on wiki is limited. This could be the number of edits per minute or the number of users you email in a day. Some users are not affected by all limits because of their user rights. They could soon see the limit even if it does not affect them. [48]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 22 September. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 23 September. It will be on all wikis from 24 September (calendar).

Recent changes
- Admins can now see links to diffs of deleted revisions on Special:AbuseLog. This uses the interface of Special:Undelete. [49]
- Editors are automatically added to some user groups. For example editors are added to autoconfirmed users when they have edited enough times and long enough. Abuse filters can hinder users from automatically getting user rights for a period of time. They can also remove rights user have. Wikis can now ask to change how long this period of time is for their wiki in Phabricator. It is currently five days. [50]
Problems
- Last year some abuse filters stopped working because of a new change. If they tried to use variables that were unavailable for that action they would fail. This has now been fixed. [51]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 29 September. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 30 September. It will be on all wikis from 1 October (calendar).
Future changes
- You can't see the language links to other language versions from the talk page or history page. They are also not shown when you edit an article. This could change. It is not decided if for example the history page should link to another history page or to the article. You can take part in the discussion in Phabricator.
- The link colours could change. This is to make the difference between links and other text more clear. You can read more in Phabricator.
- In your preferences you can choose to get different notifications on the web or by email. You will see
Apps
as one of the alternatives later this week. This is because the Android and iOS Wikipedia apps will use push notifications for those who want them. You can see the preferences on the test wiki. The goal is to have push notifications on Android in October and on iOS in early 2021. [52] - You can soon put pages on your watchlist for a limited time. This could be useful if you want to watch something for a shorter time but don't want it on your watchlist forever. It now works on mediawiki.org and will come to more wikis later. You can read more and see when it will come to other wikis.
- You can see what Wikimedians think are the best new technical tools this year. You can also nominate them.

Recent changes
- There is a new tool where you can see which home wiki users have in discussions on Meta. This can help show which communities are not part of the discussion on wikis where we make decisions that affect many other wikis.
- You can now thank users for file uploads or for changing the language of a page. [53]
Problems
- There were many errors with the new MediaWiki version last week. The new version was rolled back. Updates that should have happened last week are late. [54]
- Everyone was logged out. This was because a user reported being logged in to someone else's account. The problem should be fixed now. [55]
- Many pages have JavaScript errors. You can read more and now see a list of user scripts with errors.
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 6 October. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 7 October. It will be on all wikis from 8 October (calendar).
- Letters immediately after a link are shown as part of the link. For example the entire word in
[[Child]]ren
is linked. On Arabic wikis this works at both the start and end of a word. Previously on Arabic wikis numbers and other non-letter Unicode characters were shown as part of the link at the start of a word but not at the end. Now only Latin and Arabic letters will extend links on Arabic wikis. [56]
Future changes
- You will be able to read but not to edit the wikis for up to an hour on 27 October around 14:00 (UTC). It will probably be shorter than an hour. [57]

On reflection, it does look a little pokey-ish to me, and I wish it had not been posted the first time. But you need to let things roll off your back a little, and not lead you to do things that are clearly against a few policies. I'm quite probably projecting, because I'm noticing myself being more on-edge than usual, but I'm wondering if something is making you more easily fly off the handle lately? I'm reminded of your getting angry really quickly last week too. Hope all is going well for you IRL, and ... this looks snotty, but isn't ... a few days off might be just what the Dr. ordered. - Hi Floq, Very fair point you wouldn't do such extreme actions over a silly comment and maybe my flying off the handle yesterday could be seen as being a tad extreme, I believe AG dragged me to ANI over something silly before so there's history between us.
- IRL everything's much better now than it was say 2-3 months ago, Mentally I'm better now or atleast getting there but when someone out of the blue comes along and tells me "you read that wrong" - I see that comment as someone trying to poke me more than anything especially when as I said there's been history between us.
- Unfortunately the FO's/flying off the handle have been a thing since I've been here and I believe I was nearly indeffed over it too although I had at one point adjusted to using different phrases but unfortunately that doesn't appear to have lasted,
- Take care Floq and thank you for reaching out here, I always appreciate and take onboard everything you say here. Thank you for your help and support over the years it means a lot so thanks again, Take care Floq (And if I don't return then I wish you all the very best).
- Djm-leighpark - Please accept my sincere and unreserved apologies for the edit summary used yesterday, The language shouldn't of been used and I have never ever once thought you were a troll either. When someone's quite clearly angry the last thing anyone should ever do is template someone as that just inflames the situation, Even if policies or whatnot were broken a gentle message goes a long way and certainly is more appreciated than a templated warning but either way there's no excuse for the edit summary so I sincerely apologise for saying what I did.
- Hi Patient Zero, Many thanks for your kind words and likewise you've helped me a lot on this project (as has Floq and countless others) and my thanks on here will never be enough but thank you for your help on here and thank you for the birthday wishes too, Yeah all is well thanks much better now than when lockdown was a thing that's for sure, Hope you're doing well mate, Take care (And if I don't return then I wish you all the very best).
- Many thanks Chris troutman!, Take care.
- Hey Swarm, No harm done, It was nice to recieve something positive I guess :). Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 14:15, 23 October 2020 (UTC)
- No worries! I am glad to hear things are looking up. I certainly didn’t enjoy the lockdown much either to be honest, and Wales is about to lock down again in fifteen minutes! I am doing alright otherwise. Take all the time you need and hopefully I’ll see you around very soon. :) Patient Zerotalk 16:44, 23 October 2020 (UTC)
- No problems. Per what I said on ANI I was actually trying to switch round the WP:AN3, WP:3RR, and Template:uw-3rr and didn't read WP:3RR properly. In fact I've just seen Template:Uw-3rr-alt which might have been a option if combined with some specific text. Had I gathered an ANI was in progress, and perhaps I should have by checking user contributions, I wouldn't have issued the WP:3RR. But these things sometimes get missed in realtime. The main point is I really like your considered response to the incident (rather than simply say raising an unblock request) and would support an unblock request unless you've decided to ride the 48 hours out (which actually can be a positive thing sometimes ... at least that's what I find with mini-self-blocks which I sometimes self-enforce ... though mostly when I have to concentrate on something real life). Thankyou. Djm-leighpark (talk) 18:24, 23 October 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Djm-leighpark, No worries, You were doing what you thought was best at the time - I've certainly done things thinking I was de-escalating the situation when in fact I was unintentionally making things worse so I understand your actions etc and obviously I hold no grudges with you or anyone else.
- Personally I believe blocks should be ridden out and in some respects believe the block was deserved (and some could say it should've of been for longer!)
- Thanks for starting an unblock discussion at ANi but honestly I have no problems with the length and tbh I'm catching up on much needed work at Commons so I'm atleast making myself useful somewhere :), Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 18:39, 23 October 2020 (UTC)
- Went ahead and unblocked since this seems to meet Bradv’s criteria for an unblock and it’d been brought up at ANI. Matter seems to be resolved from where I’m sitting. TonyBallioni (talk) 21:23, 23 October 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks TonyBallioni, and I agree this is resolved. Davey2010, I'm glad to see your comments here – happy editing. – bradv🍁 23:31, 23 October 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks TonyBallioni for unblocking I appreciate that, Never dreamed that I'd actually get blocked on my birthday of all days but hey ho. Thanks Bradv for blocking me as lets be honest I would've continued to remove their comment although I'm grateful it wasn't for longer than 48h!, Anyway onwards and upwards, Thanks. –Davey2010Talk 10:10, 24 October 2020 (UTC)

Happy Birthday!
- Happy birthday, Dave. I hope all is well? I remember many years ago when you helped me out on here, as I was just getting started. Just wanted you to remember you were of such great help to me back then and I’m very grateful that you took me under your wing. Hope to see you back when everything cools down again. We’re losing too many good eggs. Patient Zerotalk 23:14, 22 October 2020 (UTC)
- Lol. With nothing but love for the birthday committee, and without saying Davey did or did not deserve this block, dropping by a blocked editor's talk page with a big ol' banner wishing them a "HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" is a bit dystopian. Read the room, Chris. ~Swarm~ {sting} 03:58, 23 October 2020 (UTC)
- @Swarm: Blocks are neither punitive nor a damnatio against the editor involved. Davey's birthday has been listed as October 22nd for the past seven years and I recognized it under WP:BDC as I do for many such birthdays and anniversaries. Chris Troutman (talk) 18:44, 23 October 2020 (UTC)
- I know, just a lighthearted jest. ~Swarm~ {sting} 23:41, 23 October 2020 (UTC)

Ways to improve Ford Fiesta (fifth generation)
Hello, Davey2010,
Thank you for creating Ford Fiesta (fifth generation).
I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

- Hello ~ Amkgp, As stated in the edit summary I'm simply splitting the article (IE copying the section from one article to another) - The text is not mine so your concerns would need to be taken to Talk:Ford Fiesta or Talk:Ford Fiesta (fifth generation), Thanks. –Davey2010Talk 17:10, 24 October 2020 (UTC)
- Davey2010, Oh I see....I think it is a reverse copyvio. No issues then. ~ Amkgp 💬 17:15, 24 October 2020 (UTC)
Thanks!

Problems
- You will be able to read but not to edit the wikis for up to an hour on October 27 around 14:00 (UTC). It will probably be shorter than an hour. [67]
- Last week, links to "diffs" from mobile watchlists and recentchanges were linking to page-revisions instead of diffs. This has now been fixed. [68]
Changes later this week
- There is no new MediaWiki version this week.
Future changes
- Since the introduction of the interface administrators user group in 2018, administrators couldn’t view the deleted history of CSS/JS pages. Now they can. [69]
- There was a problem with the Change Tags. The software would apply the "Reverted" tag to any page actions such as page-protection changes if they came directly after a reverted edit. This has now been fixed for new edits. [70]
- The Reply tool will be offered as an opt-in Beta Feature on most Wikipedias in November. Another announcement will be made once the date is finalized. [71]

--Floquenbeam (talk) 19:16, 26 October 2020 (UTC)
- Hello Floquenbeam, Sound advice - I planned to do those anyway - Not a battle worth dying for!. Once I've sourced the articles I wanted to I plan to leave the project after for a while, Tbh I'm torn between retiring and vanishing right now but for the time being articles here are far more important than silly squabbles that will be forgotten in a week!, Thanks as always for your sound advice. –Davey2010Talk 20:00, 26 October 2020 (UTC)
Apology
- Before I leave project for some time I wanted to reach out and sincerely apologise AlgaeGraphix for the edit summaries/comments towards you, These shouldn't of been said to you nor anyone else on this project for that matter - There are means and ways telling people to go away and it really isn't that,
- I've also realised my language here has certainly gotten worse over the years and I genuinely feel like my behaviour now (if that's the right word) is incompatible with the project so before I'm shown the door for good I figured a long break might do me the world of good.
- I'm not this guy who randomly tells people to F off and I feel like I've now pictured myself to be this absolute A hole who goes around telling everyone to F off when in fact I'm not and I don't. I've never shyed a way from the fact I have a temper problem which I've had since I was a child however IRL I don't have a lot of patience that's literally it ... If something doesn't go well for instance in the kitchen I become agitated etc etc.
- Still there's no excuse for my language here and I know If I don't change soon my tenure here will be cut very short.
- Anyway I'm sorry again AlgaeGraphix for the edit summaries/comments and I'm sincerely sorry to anyone else who I've used bad language/stupid comments at.
- Not sure if I'll ever be back but for now thanks all who have helped and supported me throughout my years here It really does mean a lot,
- Thanks, Kind Regards, Dave // –Davey2010Talk 16:14, 27 October 2020 (UTC)
- Also, Davey, people in general, perhaps including you, tend to all have cabin fever now. Tempers seem to be flaring all over the project, and I certainly feel a lack of patience in myself. I hope you have a good break and that you do return, refreshed! Bishonen | tålk 16:22, 27 October 2020 (UTC).
- Thank you; and when you return, I hope you live up to the Civility and Diplomacy Barnstars that you earned in the past. AlgaeGraphix (talk) 00:40, 28 October 2020 (UTC)
Man alive, not you as well. Everybody seems to be leaving :-( Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 12:35, 28 October 2020 (UTC)
- it was Lightburst & now you, it’s saddening(to put it mildly), seeing well-meaning editors leave the project I agree a 100% with Ritchie333. I really do hope you return back to editing sooner than later.Celestina007 (talk) 13:59, 28 October 2020 (UTC)
- thank you for what you gave us, take a break, and think about what counts --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:19, 30 October 2020 (UTC)
- All the best for whatever happens in the future, but you've left a substantial legacy here. Jules (Mrjulesd) 10:39, 31 October 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks Bishonen, Ritchie, Celestina007, Gerda and Mrjulesd for your kind words here, Your words do mean a lot to me. Unfortunately I just don't have that mindset to edit here anymore, The virus, lockdowns etc have all affected me mentally and sadly that doesn't look to improve what with the new 4week lockdown imposed in the UK. Anyway thanks again for your kind words here it means a lot.
- In the meantime stay safe and take care, Thanks, Regards, Dave // –Davey2010Talk 14:45, 1 November 2020 (UTC)

Can you help with the creation of a policy proposal? — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 23:22, 12 December 2020 (UTC)
- Hey Alexis Jazz, Hope you and yours are safe and okay,
- Well where do I begin .... long story short this happened, followed by some soul-searching, became depressed and suicidal, rest is history as they say. Once I've sourced the articles that are on my list I plan to scramble my password and leave but untill then I'll still be around.
- Haha I know that feeling all too well! :), You could try some meditation or failing that a nice alcholic beverage of your preference! :).
- I'd love too but being honest images aren't my fortay here so you'd probably be best asking someone more knowledge such as JJMC89, Sorry I couldn't be of more help :(, Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 01:01, 13 December 2020 (UTC)
- Please don't scramble your password. Log out, take a break, but don't burn any bridges. We all make mistakes. You recognize your mistakes and even apologize for them. You have any idea how rare of a quality that is? — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 12:18, 13 December 2020 (UTC)
- Could you try adding
mw.loader.load('//en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Alexis_Jazz/AngerManagement.js&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript');
to User:Davey2010/common.js and enter some profanity in an edit window without publishing it? (make sure you have "Syntax highlighting" disabled, this currently only works with the plain text source editor) Even if only just for laughs. — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 13:42, 13 December 2020 (UTC)- Honestly I feel like I've burnt too many bridges here, True but there's only so many times one can apologise - after a while it becomes meaningless.
- Anyway thanks for popping by :), Take care and all the best Alexis. –Davey2010Talk 22:10, 13 December 2020 (UTC)
- Please just ask for a self-requested block for a couple of months or whatever. If you don't wish to come back after that, that's up to you. I can understand needing a break from the madness that is wiki, but don't deny your future self this. Your future self will scream at your past self which is currently your current self for doing this. Think of the kittens! — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 23:47, 13 December 2020 (UTC)
- Hey Alexis Jazz, Love the last part of your comment! - That will almost certainly happen. Unfortunately I've convinced myself certain things which I fear is due to me being depressed. Think it's fair to say 2020 has been hard on everyone!. Anyway think a forced break will do me some good. Thank you for caring it means a lot Alexis!. Stay safe and take care, Kind Regards, –Davey2010Talk 19:44, 14 December 2020 (UTC)
- I had to think for a while. Depression and thinking of suicide is no light topic. I know I can't convince you, that I can't show you how it distorts your vision of reality. You are aware it does, but you can't see to what degree. I know I can't explain to you that people do forget and ultimately accept imperfections of each other as long as they contribute positively overall (which you do!). I know I can't convince you to stay, and I know that if I tried I'd only drive you further away.
- But please honor this one request I make. If you must burn a bridge, burn it mentally. Write down a new password (with a pen on a piece of paper), something sufficiently random that you won't be able to remember tomorrow and change your password to that. Put the paper in an envelope and write "Don't open until you're feeling awesome again!" on it. Tape it shut and store it with your tax administration (or something else you never need/want to look at again). I'll be seeing you. — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 16:05, 16 December 2020 (UTC)
- Hey Alexis, Thanks for your suggestion - It sounds a bloody brilliant idea I'll certainly keep that in mind!, Thank you for listening as well as for your help you really don't know how much that means to me like seriously so thank you so much!.
- It's amazing what 6 hours of walking a day in the countryside can do!, Certainly beats the life I was living 2 days ago that's for sure!
- Thank you for caring and for lending your ear it does mean a lot!,
- I hope you and yours have a very Merry Christmas and a very Happy and Healthy New Year,
- Take care Alexis & stay safe, Warm Regards, –Davey2010Talk 23:50, 18 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi, we could discuss on the talk page if you like, but you may not be aware that someone has been trying to get the non-notable person "Simon Minter" onto as many pages as possible for years. It's been reverted (and not only by me) tens of time, at the very least, on that page along with others such as Minter (surname). The list on the school page is restricted to notable alumni, and all have their own pages on Wikipedia to establish that fact. This person doesn't, and has piped the link to Sidemen (YouTube group) on which he is mentioned. But as you know, notability can't be established merely by pointing to another Wikipedia article on which there happens to be a mention: it has to be supported by proper reliable references. And there has never been anything that would enable this Simon Minter to maintain a page of his own. I'd like to remove the addition on that basis. MichaelMaggs (talk) 12:55, 22 December 2020 (UTC)
- Hi MichaelMaggs, Apologies for the delayed response, My apologies for also reverting you, My main and only issue was that you reverted stating "unsourced" which to me didn't make sense as that list wasn't sourced anyway ... however I should've done my due diligence and properly checked instead of skimming everything so my apologies for reverting you, I've gone ahead and undone my edit as completely agree with you redirects aren't good enough.
- Thank you for taking the time to come here, Take care and stay safe, (And hope you and yours have a lovely Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year), Warm Regards, –Davey2010Talk 20:26, 22 December 2020 (UTC)

Merry Christmas!
If angels sung a Savior’s birth, On that auspicious morn, We well may imitate their mirth, Now He again is born! If stars in heav'n shone bright as day To light the manger throne, We should rejoice as well as they That love doth reign alone. All Glory be to God on high, And to the earth be peace; Goodwill henceforth from heav'n to men Begin and never cease. - "Milford" by Joseph Stephenson, text anonymous |

Thank you for your contributions toward making Wikipedia a better and more accurate place. BoringHistoryGuy (talk) 13:06, 26 December 2020 (UTC) Oneupsmanship: This painting turned the friendly rivalry between Edward Redfield and Elmer Schofield into a feud. Schofield was a frequent houseguest at Redfield's farm, upstream from New Hope, Pennsylvania, and the two would go out painting together, competing to capture the better view. Redfield served on the jury for the 1904 Annual Exhibition of the Carnegie Institute; at which, despite Redfield's opposition, Across the River was awarded the Gold Medal and $1,500 prize. It was not until a 1963 interview that the 93-year-old Redfield revealed the painting as the cause of the 40-year feud between them. Schofield may have painted it in England, but a blindsided Redfield knew that this was a view of the Delaware River, from his own front yard! |
